Lytle Tate & Stamper

Let me start with this: I HAVE A DEATH FEAR OF DENTISTS, ORAL SURGEONS, AND ENDODONTISTS. Look at my mouth x-​rays and you will see that I have had loads of dental work done. Think about that when you read this review.
I am utterly and completely impressed with Dr. Robert Lytle and his office. I had an aged root canal go south. Nasty abscess, throbbing pain –this tooth had to go. I called on Monday after getting the referral from my dentist –the office offered an appointment for the next morning. Based on the opinion of my dentist that I could wait a few days and the fact that I’m a professor and did not want to cancel class the week before Spring Break, I made an appointment for Thursday. I’m directed to their website to fill out the paperwork ahead of time. Huge points for that– let me fill that out at home when I am not hyperventilating in the office.
Appointment day: I’m sick; I’m nauseous; I’ve thrown-​up. (That dental anxiety thing) I calm myself down. Deep cleansing breaths. I arrive at the office– everything is ready. The front desk staff are polite and calm. They validate parking!
I meet Dr. Lytle’s assistants– again, lovely and calm.
Dr. Lytle is friendly and answers all my questions.
I’m not going to lie: the procedure was unpleasant. It’s a tooth extraction. There are horrible sounds and there is someone with scary tools poking around in your mouth. There’s no getting around that. That said: I EXPERIENCED ZERO PAIN.
I appreciated that he called my dentist with a full-​report after the procedure.
My follow up was today. All is good.
I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Lytle and his office. They are total professionals.

Last November I was referred to Dr. Lytle’s office by my dentist Dr. Kleiger when I was having some horrible wisdom tooth pain. I called the office and told them what was going on and they were able to work me in the same day. I am just like everyone else who is terrified of the dentist but I can promise you that everyone from Dr. Robert Lytle to everyone in his office makes you feel so comfortable. Dr. Robert Lytle was very friendly and thoroughly explained that I should get all 4 wisdom teeth out. I was very very nervous but it was over quickly and it wasn’t as painful as I imagined.
The next couple of days were fine but then the tooth that was originally giving me problems started to swell up so I called the office and they told me to come in. Dr. Lytle saw me immediately and took action and gave me an antibiotic through an IV to help with the infection. He told me that if the swelling didn’t go down to call him the next morning and gave me his cell phone number. Unfortunately the swelling didn’t go down so I called Dr. Lytle and since his office was closed (they are closed on Wednesdays) he told me to go see his brother at their other office in Pasadena. At this point the pain was sooo bad I was tears when I showed up to the office. The other Dr. Lytle (John) was very sympathetic and assured me that he was going to help make me feel better soon. He gave me another IV of antibiotics, made sure I had enough pain meds, gave me his personal cell phone number and told me to call him if I had any issues. He also spoke to his brother and communicated to him that I was in his office and let him know what was going on.
Unfortunately the IV antibiotics that they were giving me weren’t working on my infection so they had to give me something stronger that finally worked. During this whole process both Dr. Lytle’s were AMAZING! I wasn’t just another patient, they were really concerned and followed up with me on the weekend to see how I was feeling. If I didn’t have this infection I can guarantee that I would have only had 1 – 2 days of down time. Even though I had complications I can say that Dr. Lytle took the best course of action and was committed to helping me feel better. I couldn’t have asked for a better Dr. I know that oral surgery can be scary but if I ever have to have another one I will definitely be going to Dr. Lytle again.

Excellent experience with Dr. Robert Lytle and his staff. Very accommodating with my schedule with their La Canada office open for surgery appointments on Saturdays. I did wait a long time for my first appointment, but they had an emergency which is understandable. The follow ups were seamless and his office staff was amazing each time. During, before and after the procedure, Tammy was incredible at putting me at ease, answering all my questions and just being an all around great person. Thank you, Tammy and Dr. Lytle’s office!

Got my wisdom teeth out with Dr. Robert Lyttel and somehow managed to enjoy the experience, awful a procedure as it is.
Everyone here is friendly, knowledgeable and prompt. They take meticulous care to provide instructions and follow up and I’ve really appreciated it.
Would recommend them to anyone.

This is 100% the best oral surgeons office around!!! A year and a half ago, I had my wisdom teeth removed by Robert Lytle. Him and his staff were extremely nice and helpful. They made the process super easy. My recovery was so painless! All of my friends and family were shocked I was even out of bed! I didn’t need any severe pain medications at all. I actually went to a concert the next night!
I started having severe jaw pains and my dentist said I needed to go to an oral surgeon so of course I want to see Dr. Lytle. I sadly changed insurance since then and my HMO didn’t cover their office anymore. After a long day of going in circles with the insurance company and different dental offices I decided to just go to Dr. Lytle and pay the fees out of pocket because I trusted him and having a good doctor is very important. They were able to squeeze me in last minute and were so helpful when it came to trying to save us money since we weren’t going through our insurance. BEST ORAL SURGEON OFFICE EVER!!! I will never go anywhere else again!

I cannot say enough good things about Lytle, Tate & Stamper. Everyone at the office is super friendly and helpful. I had my consultation with Dr. Robert Lytle first. He made me feel very comfortable and at ease about getting all four wisdom teeth out. Due to scheduling conflicts I ended up having my surgery with Dr. John Lytle who was just as friendly and reassuring as his brother. The surgery was a breeze and I was very impressed when Dr. Lytle called to check in on me and answered any questions I had promptly via text. When I had concerns about how I was healing I went back in and they squeezed me in as a walk in no problem. I got to meet Dr. Stamper who was just as awesome as the other two. This is honestly the best medical/​dental practice I have ever visited and I only wish they could be my doctors for everything. If you need oral surgery I recommend Lytle, Tate and Stamper without reservation.

Dr. Lytle is the best of the best. PERIOD! My mom worked with him at USC dental school, and for the past 20+ years, everyone in my family has had their wisdom teeth pulled by him. She’s seen hundreds, if not thousands of dentists work at USC and recommends Doctor Lytle hands down. She said administration would not always be happy with him because, he would go above and beyond to help the less fortunate.
Today it was my turn. The staff is so patient and friendly, And 6 hours later, I feel fine. The rest of my family had practically no down time either.
I was really scared because it was my first time «going under» and you read horror stories and see youtube videos.
But I woke up pain free and totally coherent.
I could have had my teeth pulled for free through Medi-​cal, but It wasn’t worth the risk for me.
He also said I didn’t need other expensive procedures, The first dentist I went to see said the I needed. Doctor Lytle is Honest and Brilliant. A great dentist and a great person!

If someone told me I had to get my wisdom teeth extracted every 10 years, I wouldn’t dread it (as much) as I did for the first 30 years of my life because Dr. John Lytle is the best!!!
Please, please do yourself a favor and just make an appointment to visit this practice. Forget the rest. I’m writing this a year after my procedure because my stubborn dad refused my reference to come here, and now he is stuck with some terrible side effects from extractions and implants. I’m still trying to get him to come to Dr. Lytle for a consultation to see what he can do (my dad refuses to admit he messed up).
Anyway…to say I’m scared of doctors and dentists is an understatement. I hate being touched and more than that I hate my mouth being numbed because I have an extreme fear of suffocation. It brings on panic attacks. I avoided having my wisdom teeth out for 10 years also because I’ve never had general anesthesia and that terrifies me too. Once one of the wizzies had a large cavity and was starting to cause bone loss in the area, I had no choice but to make the appointment.
I had already met Dr. Lytle before when my husband had 2 implants put in and wisdom teeth removed the year before. Because of health risks, my husband had the procedure done at Verdugo Hills in the day surgery area. I remember Dr. Lytle coming to talk to me on the way out of the hospital — he had a hat and jacket on that made him look like Indiana Jones. He was very nice, but what I remember was the cool outfit. So I had my consultation in September. It was quick and easy. The insurance was confirmed two weeks later, and then I decided to wait… until the following June to get the wizzies out. To me, it felt like my life was counting down to death.
The day of the procedure I freaked out about the general anesthesia — well actually I freaked out by the fact I was going to wake up and my entire mouth and possibly throat was going to be numb. I was too scared to do it. I don’t know if it was Dr. Lytle or me that suggested it, but the alternative option that I took was to have each wisdom tooth extracted at separate times with local anesthesia. That way only one quadrant at a time would be numb. So for the next two months I came in every other week and it was quick and pretty much painless. Really. I’m not scared of needles/​shots or that much by pain (go figure), but I don’t remember any of the injections hurting at all. Again, though, I was so focused on the numbing I’m sure someone could have been stabbing me in the stomach and I wouldn’t have noticed. The extractions were so interesting. People think I’m crazy for being awake and having each tooth extracted separately, but I liked hearing the crunching and cracking and seeing the process. All the teeth were already exposed, so it was a very fast process. I did throw up for the last tooth because I gag easily and the last tooth had a lot of blood and the sucking tube made me gag too much. I did ask the ladies at the front for only morning appointments so I would be on an empty stomach, but for the last tooth they only had afternoon visits. A girl has to eat — sorry! Overall, Dr. Lytle was a champ. Very patient with me too. I think because he’s an M.D. he is more empathetic to phobias.
Oh, and the best part was I had very little pain the day of the extraction, and the next day I kid you not, I could not tell where the extraction had taken place. There was no pain or soreness the day after at all. I never had to take any meds. I was really impressed by that. I even ate spaghetti and meatballs 2 hours after one extraction (I’m sure that’s a huge no no).
Dr. John Lytle is amazing — I really hope he stays around until I’m 60 – 70 years and need implants. Or maybe he has a son or daughter he is training — hope so!

Even gave me his personal cell phone so I could reach him ²⁴⁄₇. Very personable guy and very nice and helpful office staff. Validates for parking. There is a McDonald’s in his building should you wish something cold after extraction or an implant (notice I didn’t call that stuff they sell there food!).

I feel weird saying this but… I had a great experience getting two of my wisdom teeth out. I was referred here by my awesome dentist, Dr. Edward Hom. I was very nervous about being under general anesthesia and about the possible pain (since one was impacted so it needed to be broken, then removed). Dr. Robert Lytle was very straightforward and explained the process to me and assured me I was in good hands — and I was!
I woke up a groggy mess (I was crying just because I was loopy and out of it when my friend came to pick me up). They gave me the prescription for prescription strength Advil as well as something stronger for the pain. I took the medicine as suggested (at the right hour intervals before the pain kicked in) and I can honestly say, there was no pain! The Advil staved the pain off and I didn’t even need the stronger stuff!
I would recommend going with Dr. Robert Lytle (there are two brothers there, I believe) because my experience went as well as I could have asked for! So grateful!

We’re very thankful to Dr. Robert Lytle. My daughter had her wisdom teeth removed. Everything went very well. Dr. Robert did a great job. He and his staff are wonderful! I highly recommend him!

My dentist has been recommending that I remove my wisdom teeth for several years now. But being a stubborn male I decided, «they don’t bug me, so why take them out?» Well I learned last week why I should’ve listened to the dentist. Started with mild discomfort in the gum area around my bottom wisdom tooth but quickly escalated to a throbbing pain that made it impossible to sleep.
This practice came highly recommended by my dentist so I called them at 8 o’clock on the dot the next morning to ask if I could possibly be seen the same day. The staff was super friendly, very accommodating, and understanding of my self-​induced situation. I was seriously sitting in the exam room by 9am that same morning.
Dr. Robert Lytle was great! He quickly diagnosed my problem, explained everything to me in an easy to understand fashion, and with great chairside manner! As I suspected, tooth needed to come out ASAP (actually he recommended that I just take out all wisdom teeth to avoid this from happening again). Not only did he squeeze me in for a same day consult, he was also kind enough to offer to do the wisdom teeth extraction that same day. Only problem was, I needed a driver as I would be put under general anesthesia. Again, they were all very accommodating and allowed me to pick up my father so that I had a designated driver.
I was nervous about the surgery but actually it was NOT bad at all! Felt fine immediately afterwards, and have had NO problems at all 1 week out. Smart and friendly staff, awesome doctor, and CLEAN facility! As I have no more wisdom teeth, I don’t know that i’ll ever need to go back but if I run into any other issues I will most definitely go to them.

It was my first time ever getting a tooth pulled so I was very nervous. I can in here to get an infected tooth pulled out and the customer service was great. Dr. Robert Lytle was so kind and explained everything to me before he started. The staff was friendly and overall great. I can’t think of a single bad thing to say. Thank you for making this fast, easy, and painless.

I am very grateful for this place and Dr Robert Lytle. My 88 year old grand father has been having some severe health complications the last month or so, and yesterday he woke up with a broken tooth. We first went to our local dentist who then sent us here to get his tooth extracted.
He has blood level issues and Dr Robert was constantly checking in with my grand fathers main doctor that everything was okay, and that he could proceed with helping my grand father. In addition, the nurses/​Frontdesk are all very sweet. Everyone took the care to give us an extra smile and were very patient during this stressful process.

After many years of dealing with various attempts to repair a botched root canal issue and the consequent side affects, I finally found relief under the care of Dr. Robert Lytle and his wonderful staff at Foothill Dental Implants. The office is pristine and comfortable, which was such a relief after dealing with previous questionable environments. The staff are always friendly, considerate, and professional. I’m a nervous dental patient and noticing this right away, Dr. Lytle was able to put me at ease, answer my questions and assure me that I was in good hands. After several months of being under his expert care I can confidently state that my experience has been exceptionally positive and recommend Dr. Lytle and his facility.

Dr. Robert Lytle removed my three remaining wisdom teeth just under two weeks ago. I wasn’t thrilled to be having the procedure done (who is!!!) but the entire process was seamless. He and his staff were incredibly kind and made me feel comfortable before and after the teeth were extracted. They gave me a headband with ice packs on the cheeks and this helped a TON with the swelling and the pain. Dr. Lytle even gave me a call the night I had the teeth out make sure I was doing okay. Overall the entire experience was very positive and I would definitely recommend this office to anyone who needs work done in the future!

I went in to get four wisdom teeth extracted and I have to say it was truly the best dental experience I’ve ever had. Dr. Robert Lytle and his staff were so warm and kind, not to mention professional. The facility is nice and clean. I felt very comfortable throughout the entire process; from the the consultation to the follow-​up appointment.
Dr. Lytle was informative during the consultation visit going over my panoramic x-​ray with me. He answered any and all questions and concerns with warmth. I don’t know what L.S. is talking about in his/​her review. Dr. Lytle was super patient with me. My extraction appointment was super comfortable as well. I don’t actually remember the surgery at all because I was under anesthesia and THAT’S JUST FINE BY ME! The last thing I remember him saying was, «Just relax…» and I dozed off! Once I woke up, I just remember walking to the recovery room where my friend was waiting for me. Dr. Lytle prescribed necessary antibiotics and gave me very specific instructions for care. I also got a Velcro head wrap with ice packs for my cheeks. He also TEXTS you to check in on you that evening (because you probably don’t want to talk on the phone). I was still numb through until the next morning. I was on a soft foods diet for a week which was the only brutal part of this experience. You just miss chewing!
I didn’t have any problems healing at all. I only needed to take three of the strong Ibuprofen he prescribed and I didn’t touch the Hydrocodone. I honestly think it’s because he did such a good job cutting and pulling those suckers out and suturing me up. I didn’t ever swell up. No horror story here. Went to my follow-​up appointment and he gave me the water syringe to irrigate the extraction sites. I was golden. I’ve got a few more weeks of full healing, but I’m A-​OK!
I am extremely happy overall with my experience! Definitely will recommend him to anyone!

The doctors in this office may be experts in their field with great pedigree, but that’s all hooey and baloney when it comes to what really matters — the way you treat your patients.
I completely agree with sahar (read her review below), Dr Lytle will aggressively yell at you if you so much as ask a question it seems. He’s defensive, veryyyy aggressive, to the point that you will walk out shocked that he’s even in practice. He spends no more than a couple minutes with you, will talk to you like you’re a kindergartener, and won’t appreciate any questions, no matter how valid they are!
Save yourself the trouble, this is one doctor that clearly just wants to schedule as many patients as he can to make more and more and more money, and doesn’t care about your concerns or the way he treats his patients.
P. S. Here’s the kicker. He will give his cell phone in case you have emergencies. Well we had a big emergency (fainting was involved) and he didn’t so much as return our call nor ever acknowledged that we called and left him a message. Really nice.

My brother came in for a consultation, and was scheduled for his surgery in December of 2013 (he needed to have his procedure during his winter break from school). Two days before his surgery, my mom received a call from Dr. Lytle’s office saying that they need to cancel surgery per Dr. Lytle’s request because he needed extra lab tests and recommendations from his primary care physician. As he requested, My brother went to his primary and got all the tests that were asked for. His primary called us when the results came in and informed us that they faxed over all the paperwork to Dr. Lytle’s office. The doctor also sent a letter (written documentation) clearing him, which I saw with my own eyes were in my brothers chart. We rescheduled for Monday, March 24, 2014 (aiming for his spring break now). On Friday, March 21, 2014 around 10 am, my mom called the office to confirm his surgery and also asked if he needs a prescription. They confirmed surgery and said they would call in a prescription for Valium and he is to take it before coming in at 8:30 am Monday morning. (Just a side note, I am a nurse that works with numerous different doctors and surgery centers and I find it a little ridiculous that this information was given to a patient when THEY called to confirm surgery. What if my mom never called? How would my brother know that he needs to receive and take a Valium before his surgery?). We were unable to pick up the prescription from CVS because we were told a lady named Diana has denied the prescription. I tried calling the office, which apparently closes at noon on Friday, so I was on the phone for about 45 minutes total. After about 20 minutes of talking to the useless operator and being on hold I was transferred to someone at the La Canada office and I told her the situation. She told me that she was Diana and that she never denied a prescription. She said that she doesn’t even do that and the doctor does (once again I work in a doctor’s office and I know that whoever answers the phone is eligible to look up the patient and see if the prescription is valid or not). So how in the world does CVS have her name documented as the person that denied this prescription? Makes absolutely NO sense. After being put on hold I was told he no longer needs a prescription and to come in 30 minutes earlier on Monday and they would give him the Valium in the office. We arrived Monday morning and the doctor comes in asking about the «paperwork» that he had asked for in December. My mom told him that they were faxed over to his office a while ago. He claimed that he never got the paperwork and that without the paperwork he isn’t able to move forward with the surgery. This being the second time that this was happening, my mom asked why the person she spoke to on Friday (Melissa), when she called to confirm the surgery didn’t bring it to her attention? Dr. Robert J. Lytle quickly responded back that Melissa had no idea about this and that my mom had called after they were already closed. My mom had called at 10 am, meaning they were still open (closes at 12). I asked him why someone would have the authority to schedule someone for surgery if they aren’t eligible, then Dr. Robert J. Lytle became completely defensive and pointed his finger in my face telling me that it was basically our fault for the misunderstanding! His bedside manner was terrible, his tone and behavior was incredibly rude, not that of a «medical professional.» Apparently, the person that scheduled my brother’s surgery was in the La Canada office (when he is a patient of the Glendale office).
WHY WOULD YOU GIVE SOMEONE THE AUTHORITY TO SCHEDULE A PATIENTS SURGERY FROM A DIFFERENT OFFICE WHEN THEY HAVE NO ACCESS OR INFORMATION ON A PATIENT AND CANNOT EVEN DETERMINE IF THE PATIENT IS ELIGIBLE FOR SURGERY IN THE FIRST PLACE? When I asked the staff how this was overlooked, Melissa responded that she didn’t know how «it fell through the cracks.» It fell through the cracks TWICE and this was the second time his surgery was cancelled. I understand that patient safety is priority, but this is a matter of disorganization, miscommunication, and staff not being on top of their tasks. I also understand that miscommunication does happen, but it is unacceptable to demonstrate the kind of behavior that Dr. Robert J. Lytle displayed. Instead of him and his staff being apologetic for their mistakes and not catching any of this prior to my brothers surgery day, they were rude and acting like we were the ones at fault. I do not and will not tolerate that kind of behavior. Just a word of advice, many places have a «pre-​op appointment,» this serves the purpose of giving prescriptions and making sure that the patient doesn’t need outside medical clearance, and if they do that it gets taken care of BEFORE surgery is even SCHEDULED. I highly suggest you incorporate this instead of just charging $ 170 for a consultation and leaving everything else a mess.

Dr. Robert Lytle is amazing! I went in to get 3 wisdom teeth pulled out on a Thursday morning. They made use that someone was going to drive me home since I was under anesthesia.
The ladies set me up, they were very comforting. When I woke up, they had me recover in a small room. They provided me with a cute little headband with ice is that I wouldn’t swell up.
The whole process was pretty painless, but of course I was under anesthesia. Once it wore off, I had been taking the medications that the dr provided for me as well as the antibiotics.
While of course, the whole procedure is very uncomfortable, the staff was there to make things easier for me. The Dr. called me that night to see how I was doing. I couldn’t talk, but I muffled that I was fine :)
Got dry socket a couple days later, and he helped me out resolve that problem at no further cost. Absolutely amazing.
Oh! And parking is 90 minutes free validation!

I just had all 4 wisdom teeth removed yesterday. I HIGHLY recommend this place. The staff is extremely friendly and Dr. Robert Lytle is GREAT. When I went to the consultation he explained everything in detail. Yesterday during the operation he literally explained every little thing he was doing step by step. It made me feel very comfortable.
It has just been one day and I am in no pain and have very very minimal swelling. I honestly couldn’t be happier.

I am the biggest chicken when it comes to my teeth & was terrified when I found out I had to get my wisdom teeth removed. I was referred to Dr. Rob Lytle by my previous dentist who I wasn’t t fond of so I feared I would have the same feelings especially because it involved oral surgery.
I have heard numerous horror stories about people who get their wisdom teeth removed that have swollen cheeks for weeks & a horrible recovery all together. I went in extremely nervous but Dr. Rob Lytle assured me it would be just fine and that I would be taken cared of.
Long story short, the procedure was quick and my recovery was literally painless and extremely short. It took about a day for the swelling (very little at that) to go down and I was happily able to find a way to start eating :) Dr. Rob Lytle called me personally to check and see how I was doing which just made the whole procedure that much more personal.
I highly recommend Dr. Rob Lytle and his staff. They are extremely caring, professional, and I would go back for future procedures.

I’m originally from Northern California but go to USC… I don’t have a lot of opportunities to go home so I’ve been putting off getting my wisdom teeth pulled for years. I finally decided to and was recommended by my dentist to Dr. Lytle.
I was FREAKING OUT when I got to the dental office for my surgery… but Dr. Lytle and his team were friendly and calmed me down until I knocked out. I woke up dizzy, but not feeling much pain.
I got home… still not much pain. Just swelling and some soreness (as expected). Over the weekend, I didn’t even take most of my pain medication!
Dr. Lytle even personally called me a few days later to check up.
The overall «recovery» experience was pretty much painless… in fact, I was so worried that things were too good to be true that I kept calling the office asking questions like, «OMG! I accidentally used a straw… am I okay!!!» The team was really friendly/​entertained by my questions.
Also…I LOVED the headwrap thing they give you to ice your cheeks. You can easily remove the pads and switch them out for another pair they give you in the freezer. I thought this was a «wisdom teeth» norm but none of my friends had ever seen anything similar… so I felt special.
I highly recommend going here to get your wisdom teeth pulled! Especially if you are nervous about it!

I just had my top/​bottom wisdom teeth removed on the right side this past Friday and I am happy to say that I seem to be healing up nice and quick.
Dr. Lytle was very nice and the procedure went without any issue. I was put under general anesthesia and when I woke up from what felt like a 5 minute nap, they were done with the extraction.
A day later, I got a call from Dr. Lytle himself checking on me and making sure everything was ok.
It was a bit pricey even with insurance but for quality care, It’s worth it.

It was a blessing to have my procedure there the entire staff was caring and went above and beyond in helping me feel comfortable. Very happy with everything I hope the best for all of you.
