Hoover High School

The school I barely graduated from. Lol! Best day was the last day of school

My child attended 4 years, graduated with honors, teachers for the most part were attentive. No complaints there.
The administration needs a LOT of help since the retirement of the past principal in 2010.
In years before, there was a modest and lovely marching band that rehearsed occasionally on the football field. Since 2011, the field has been completely revamped, which is not a bad thing, but the marching band now is a competitive one with over 100 members. The cacophonous sounds, at maximum volume, coming from the field on a daily basis makes it impossible for the neighborhood to exist in peace. Many of our neighbors, including myself, had to leave home and go to a library or coffee shop in order to get work done.
The noise begins at 6:45 AM and continues intermittently throughout the day and doesn’t end until close to 10 PM. The administration will tell you that they are above the law because they are a school and do not have to adhere to normal noise restrictions. The city says that their hands are tied. It’s a hopeless situation.
I have sold my house and moved away from the area because of the marching band.
Suffice it to say, that the administration not only ignored any suggestions that the neighborhood had for remedying the situation, but fought against us in every conceivable way.
I’m very happy at this point to be away from Glendale and the sounds from Hoover high school. If you are considering sending your child to Hoover, I would talk to the neighbors in the neighborhood first. As a neighbor in the community you will be completely ignored and made to feel that you are a tremendous inconvenience.

Better than any school in the area. Definitely most school spirit and if you haven’t experienced a BGD at Hoover, you’re missing out!

great school, teachers are the funniest and most understanding (with the exception of a few). On tornados!

great school. good teachers… place looks much nicer since they renovated the place… traffic is a pain though. especially since theres a middle school and elementary school directly across the street…

LOL I had no idea you could rate schools.
Highschool was basically a huge let down for me. Throughout elementary school I grew up watching Saved by the Bell thinking that’s what highschool would be like. Clearly I was wrong…
Having said that, it’s not so bad in the sense that there’s really no popular crowd and you don’t have that popular cheerleader/​jock thing going. Everyone just kinda does their own thing and some of the teachers are um… quite interesting.
There’s usually ATLEAST 2 – 3 fights per week. I have seen some of the most epic fights at hoover… but that’s not really a good thing I suppose. I graduated in ’03 but I guess they have revamped it since then. The front of the school looks real nice.

I swear, if I had a dime for every time that damned fire alarm went off.
