H&R Block

Had to pay $ 750 for them to simply input numbers that I read off for 3 years worth of back taxes. It took maybe 15 minutes of their time total. And this was a supposed DISCOUNT price that the agent gave me. It would have been TWICE as much but when I gasped at the amount he said «I’ll give a little discount». Well, that didn’t help seeing as I had to pay it all upfront out of pocket! I thought H&R took what you owed out of your refund… but guess I was wrong.
The biggest problem though was the fact that one of the years I filed (which was my biggest return) didn’t even get processed because it was filed barely too late. I was completely unaware that the deadline for the current tax year applied to back taxes! You could say I’m to blame for my ignorance, but isn’t that why we choose places like H&R in the first place? To have professional, KNOWLEDGEABLE tax agents help us take care of stuff? I spoke with an agent about what I needed (five days BEFORE the deadline) inquiring as to what years I could file for and what they needed from me, and she made NO MENTION that it had to be done ASAP. As a struggling single mother who was DEPENDING on these returns… I trusted them to inform me on necessary procedures and they failed me greatly. :(
