Almost every year for the past three decades, the Village of Glendale puts on one heck of a pyrotechnic display sometime just before the Fourth of July. Folks gather all along the Cherry Creek Trail, on patios, and in nearby parks and parking lots to watch the dazzling display launched from Creekside Park.
We can see the fireworks from our house but this year we decided to get up close. We’ll be doing that from now on. Creekside Park is closed for the show but the lawn in front of the Staybridge Suites right next door is wide and grassy and the perfect viewing spot. You’re pretty much right underneath them there and it is a loud but jaw-​dropping experience.
So grab the kids, your picnic basket, and lawn chairs, and kick off a fun Fourth of July holiday in Glendale.

In Glendale, one of Denver’s smallest suburbs, we have the wildest fireworks ever. It’s the day the crazies come out to play. My guy and I live near the Glendale dog park, so we usually sit there with our lovely neighbors and have a very comfortable view of the booms that light up the sky.
«Not good enough,» says Danger Boy, who has to get as close as one can get without feeling the burn. This summer he took me, unwillingly, to the corner of Cherry and Cherry Creek where the boom-​makers make it happen, right beside the fire trucks. Yes, we got some dirty looks from the firemen, who were trying to shoo us off like unwanted flies. We got there early, of course, so we could «have the most exciting view.» Uhm, right. «A view of all the outrageous, who live in Glendale,» is more what I was thinking. That’s all I could focus on, the peculiar folks. People actually brought newborn babies and little dogs to this madness.
I just wanted to ask;
«Could you put a shirt on?,»
«Why is your four year old daughter so provocatively dressed?»
«Does your Chihuahua like sudden bursts of fiery sky and booming crashes?»
«Does your 14 year old boy need a tattoo?»
«Do you really think baby strollers should be this close to danger?»
«Do we need to buy Glow toys for an event that’s going to be over in 30 minutes?»
Glendale seems like a nice enough place, until Independence Day and then all of the peculiar come out from under their rocks and it seems like grand central station of CRAZY TOWN!
The pyrotechnics are wonderful in spite of all the ridiculous, idiotic behavior of Glendale’s citizens.
