Glendale Area Schools Federal Credit Union

WOW! This local credit union in Glendale is at the top of the bell curve when compared to Chase, CITI, Wells Fargo, Bank Of America, etc. They are linked to some network with other credit unions for free ATM’s and they total 30,000 including the 7 – 11 & Rite Aid stores. I opened my own account here and my business account, too. Both accounts are free even the business checking and they don’t even require any compensating balance to keep it free. Saundra opened up my accounts and was helpful, and showed me how the Home Banking and Bill Pay works. She introduced me to Steward the Manager. I have been with the bank down the street for several years and the Manager there looks at me like I am just a peon nobody. This credit union gives a good vibe. They also have a branch at the South Glendale Post Office on Broadway. Its a bummer they are closed on Saturday — but with the 30,000 ATM’s I can make it work.

I used to love this bank. They would go out of their way to help members on a personal level, as opposed to big banks who don’t care. I don’t know what changed but currently they don’t give a crap about their members. Despite having a high credit score, they won’t give me a loan because I’m self employed, yet i go to Navy Fed and get a loan in minutes. They won’t raise by credit card limit because I’m self employed. They wouldn’t let me open a business bank account saying I didn’t have the proper documentation, yet I left and immediately went to Chase and opened my business bank account that afternoon. This is just a short list of problems I’ve had with them. I will no longer be banking with them and wouldn’t recommend that anyone bank with them.

Never knew how much better is to bank with a Union Bank rather than an actual bank. No fees, low intereston any type of loan. Bonnie is the person to talk to if planning on getting a loan out. She is the very straightforward on telling you what your best option are and won’t make you waste your time, nor pressure you in taking one out if it’s not your best option. She is such a sweetheart and has a humorous personality.

Really happy with GASFCU. No fees for checking or savings account. Always a pleasure dealing with tellers inside. Very convenient ATM outside located on Ocean View and Broadview.
Much simpler bank to deal with versus what’s available on Honolulu. Just joined LAFCU and I will still be keeping my account here just for convenience.

I joined the credit union when I finally got tired of Wells Fargo treating me like crap. Life is so good now! Every time I call, I speak to an actual person, and everyone I’ve spoken to has been so polite and helpful. Checking is free, savings is free, and they offer loans and credit cards, too. You can go to any ⁷⁄₁₁ ATM (no fee!) to get cash, and you can mail deposits to the credit union if you’re too lazy to go there. They deposit everything via mail very promptly. They have a bill pay service (also free), and their website is accessible on your smartphone (lest ye miss the app of your previous bank). I love the GASFCU!

This is a great place to bank. The people here are home town friendly but still professional and knowledgeable. The checking accounts are free and so is home banking and being able to pay bills on line. Beverly made getting a car loan stress free and I saved tons over the dealer rate. It was worth the trouble to change from my old bank.

They get two stars only because they are better than the bank.
I must have encountered different staff members than the previous reviewer, because I find most of them incredibly unprofessional and rude. They fail to explain common procedures when you open an account and then talk to you in a condescending manner when you have basic questions (for example, why do you have a hold on my check in a basic checking account after you have approved me for a 30-​year-​fixed rate mortgage loan?!) They are very uncooperative in answering questions over the phone.
Also, their online system does not match what you actually have in your account, so be careful! It is as if they are way behind in technology and cannot keep accounts up-​to-​date.
Yes, they do have A toy for kids (not «toys» plural), but it is still like walking into a run-​down bank from the 70s with grumpy employees.

Very nice staff… They even have toys to keep your kids entertained, but they no longer let customers use the restroom:(
