I’ve been to many Mongolian style restaurants and this setup is the worst. It was my first time here and the waitress explained how to fill out a card? Why don’t I get to just go and grab my food like every other Mongolian style restaurant? I picked my bowl based on price, $ 10, not wanting to spend much and was shocked when they gave me a bowl not fit for my five year old. Already upset I reluctantly started filling my bowl with meats and then moved on to the veggies. When I realized the veggie selection wasn’t the best I went back to the meats only to be stopped by the staff and told that it’d be an extra $ 4 to go back!!! Isn’t this supposed to be all I can fit in one bowl? Nope, when I asked for the bigger bowl she said it would still be an additional $ 4 to go back and pointed at a sign that is behind the counter, written in small type and half way down the line. Can I get some warning? It was at this point I was disgruntled and looking at my sad little portion I decided to hand my bowl to the chef and I walked out. I don’t plan on trying them out again any time soon.

This place has a format I’ve never seen in the many Mongolian places I’ve eaten. Usually you get one decent sized bowl and fill it up with whatever you want — meat, veggies, noodles, sauces, etc. then you get rice and soup on the side. Here you have to pick a bowl size, preselect your«starches» — rice OR noodles. For lunch, the SMALL bowl was $ 9.99. I asked if I could have rice on the side and the server said it would be an additional $ 2. She asked if it was my first time there. Then she explained how to fill out the card with my name, my bowl size, my «starches», then go through the line, pick my meat, veggies, sauces and give it to the stirfry guy. By the time she got done with explaining, she could have filled it out the card for me. The small bowl is barely a cup and it was over the top way too fast. The stir fry guy puts in a standard amount of noodles, which wasn’t that much… So I can’t decide how much noodle I want in my bowl either? So $ 10 for a tiny Mongol bowl that wasn’t very filling, with no rice, soup or egg roll on the side. $ 2.80 for a coke. On the plus side, the ingredients were top quality, and it was nicely cooked. It was nice to have the bowl brought to you, rather than waiting. If you pop the extra $ 2 – 4 you probably get a more filling meal. Next time I go to YC on the east side I will beg them to add a west valley location.

The only time I really like to come eat here is when Bill is managing. He is such an awesome guy! Has the whole place under control, also food always comes out perfect. If the food isn’t perfect he’ll have that fixed for you right away. He’s the only manager that has came out of his way & introduced himself. Bill I just want to thank you for your outstanding service. YOUROCK!

Our server Michelle was fantastic! We sat outside and enjoyed a beautiful Phoenix evening. The food is fantastic — this was our second night in a row as we enjoyed it so much. The staff is fast and super helpful — they helped me sample a number of different sauce choices. The food was well flavored and came out to our table in just a few minutes. All it all, made for a great evening with family!

The food was very tasty and our server Nick was incredible at taking care of us and very friendly. We like customizing our own bowls and the kids always eat it all! Definitely will be going back.

Visited last night… Took forever for a to go order. Vegetables were way way way over cooked as well in both of our meals. For the price I expect them to pay attention to that kind of thing. Unlikely to return based on this experience.

I remember when I used to enjoy coming here. Now it’s kinda sad to think this is my last time eating here. Besides $ 14 for a mediocre meal in a setting with music that makes me want to kill myself, and employees that walk around like they don’t know what they are looking for. On top of all this, the quality went down, and the price went up. Really sad, at least YCs is still around.

Both times I have been here have been delicious! The waitresses/waiters always explain how it works and how to order food. It’s a great environment for families and it’s always a great place to grab something quick.

We didn’t want to eat at the food court at the mall and hoped that Genghis Grill would be better. It’s been FIVE years since I’ve been to Genghis Grill and it did change some. Genghis Grill is a small casual Mongolian Stir Fry Restaurant with a bar. A hostess seats you and then you fill out a card with the size stir fry you want small, medium or large and your side that goes under your stir fry rice, noodles or cabbage. We ordered some vegetable pot stickers. They came out pretty fast and did come with a tasty dipping sauce but the filling in the dumpling looked like it went through a blender. The pot stickers were the best part of our meal and they weren’t so great. I thought the ginger fish looked like the freshest choice for the protein so I picked that. The bowl is very tiny and I had little room for vegetables. The guy behind the glass said just pile it higher. After I tried to pile in some vegetables I selected some dry spice and a spicy red chili stir fry sauce. Then I passed my bowl to the stir fry guy. I went back to my table and in a bit the waitress brings us our stir fry. I look for some fish but I can’t find one piece. I think it got chopped up real fine like rice.(ICK) I go to try a piece of broccoli. It’s hard and got that bad broccoli smell and made me «GAG.» My bowl is mostly rice with mashed up fish. It just taste awful. I was really starving but my stomach just locked up from trying this food. My husband took different meats and used different spices and sauces than mine. He said his didn’t taste good either and was convinced that mine must be better so he tried to eat mine. But he couldn’t eat mine either. Our server was cheerful and ok. She asked us if we wanted boxes for our leftovers, we declined and she just smiled. I just don’t know if it’s possible to make a delicious stir fry here. The food made us «Gag» The Gag-us Grill 1.5 stars rounded up because the workers seemed nice.

Ive always loved stir frys and enjoyed building my own. Here however everything was limited. I started with a small bowl because i didnt want to eat too much. The bowl was WAY too small to fit more than a few pieces of veggies in. When i realized i cant fit anything, i changed it to regular(which apparently requires permission from the manager). I managed to fit the rest in the regualr bowl, however i wasnt allowed to go back to the meat, so i ended up with mostly veggies. The stir fry was mostly noodles and didnt have much mixed in due to the small portion bowls provided. Was also expensive for the amount given. The atmosphere and service were fantastic, but not the best stir fry ive had.

I love, this place! I eat here at least once every two weeks or so. The food is fresh, healthy, and delicious. The staff are always friendly, and the restaurant is clean, and never too crowded. They’re plenty busy, but the set up works well for the traffic. I don’t think I’ve been unhappy with the place once since I started going three years ago. Plus, they have excellent happy hour drink specials all week. Highly recommend!

I was having a lovely dinner until the server decided to ignore us. He kept chatting with the bar staff and cooks. We saw the server for the table next to us pass by like 10 times and ours would never come back. Next time I will get a to go order because I will be back for the steak!

First visit there only two days ago. Enjoyed numerous great versions of this type of cuisine in San Diego. Recently moved to Peoria I’d planned to get to this place on Bell Road a few times. Thankfully I was able to treat a friend to lunch, someone who had yet to venture to this kind of meal. The greeting by Bill the manager could not have been more pleasant or sincere. Indeed upon learning it was our first visit, my my friends first ever time trying this out, he even undertook to personally cook our selection. The range of ingredients was exceptional. Sauces and oils were plentiful. Size of bowls was fair and the staff conducting our service was superb. My friend loved the experience so much, we now plan on making it a weekly event. The pleasant unobtrusive well appointed bar will make it a must go to restaurant for our out of state friends. Well done Bill, many thx and see you again soon. Hugh

This place is so yummy and rather healthy. But it seems overly priced to me, but that’s just me. I’ve been here a couple times now. Maybe 3. This last time I came with my boyfriend and the service was great. The guy was very helpful and friendly. He recommended trying the edamame they have because theirs is covered in lemon pepper or something like that. What I didn’t need like was the prices of the bowls. The smallest bowl is $ 10. I mean, I guess if you were good you could pack on as much as you can. But anything falling off doesn’t count. And what really bothered me was it was my boyfriends first time and we skipped ahead when choosing what to put on and in his bowl because he didn’t know what all there was and when he went backwards to add more after seeing what was there, we found out there was a charge when you go backwards. It just seemed ridiculous and also not fair since it was his first time and he didn’t know, and it didn’t help that I didn’t remember so I couldn’t tell him. But other than that, the service was good and the edamame was so yummy!

I would’ve given them 5 stars if their arrangement of ingredients was better. You had to go forwards to get a plate then walk back to start with your meats then forward again to get the rest. In other locations it was continuous and just flows better.

Really surprised to find this place… the print advertisements that we saw always made our family fee this would be more like Panda Express… totally wrong!!! It was delicious, hot and neat concept. We barely noticed the wait because we were too busy discussing what we were going to make and drinking our cocktails afterwards. Definitely get the Regular sized bowl for best value, yummy to the tummy!

Not as enjoyable Had not visited in a while and decided to stop by for lunch. The experience wasn’t poor, but wasn’t as enjoyable in the past for three reasons: (1) The food area was messy, with beef and chicken slices smeared on the bar where you select ingredient. We navigate our trays around the meet stains. (2) We would occasionally get the smell of bile or bad beer waft our way at our first table. (3) The bathroom was bad enough that the two people ahead of me stepped in, then backed right out with sour looks on their faces. I decided I could wait rather than risk any olfactory harm. Maybe it was just an amazing party the night before that left things in less than stellar shape. The service was actually fine and the food was okay. It was just the cleanliness issues that served as a big turn-off. Oh, and at $ 15+ per person on average, the bowls should be bigger…

Great place for a quick stop for a nice lunch. I enjoy the do-it yourself bowls and they just have so many selections you can choose from, whether it’s for the meat, toppings or sauce. I made a small cajun-chicken bowl w/mushrooms, a bunch of spices and udon noodles which was very good. You can order a drink before you go make your bowl which makes it convenient when you come back and wait for your bowl– that way you don’t waste any time if you’re in a rush. Their service was also great! We had many servers asking us numerous times if our food was ok or if we needed anything else. The only reason why I am not giving them 5 stars is because my fork was not clean at all, but I didn’t mind since I eat with chopsticks anyway, but my friend’s fork was also dirty and he had to ask for a new one.

I was contacted by the NEW manager to give them another chance so I did. I was pleasantly surprised. Our server was attentive, answered our questions and definitely made our visit pleasant. The concept of Genghis Grill is Mongolian. I think anyone’s first visit will be daunting but the staff will walk you through it. I think the trick is to make your own bowl vs having them make it. For dessert I got the brownies and oh em gee, they were wonderful! If you’re not willing to get up and put a little effort into preparing your meal then this isn’t for you but it’s worth it to try all the different spices, sauces and salts.
