I shot a feature film here (all indoor sets/​green screen), and had a great time. Always felt welcome, and they were helpful in getting us what we needed when we needed it. Chris Nolan is a fine gent, and I hope to shoot here again in the future!

I bought a Zoom H5 and rented a Lav mic and these guys are simply the best in every category, providing me with the info and service I needed. I’ve been a loyal customer at Samy’s for over 20 years (still love the place) but EVS is my new go-​to place.

Brian is the best! He really knows his stuff. He was able to set me up with everything I needed and gave some awesome suggestions. I tried to hug him, but I think that made him scared. He’s still cool though, not everyone is a hugger.

I’ve had numerous great experiences renting from this place. Everyone there is super helpful and friendly, I always feel like I’m hanging out with friends instead of waiting in a cold sterile environment. Brian «B» is always Johnny on the spot, and gives you more info than you need (whether you ask for it or not, haha) I’ve never had any issue with their gear and they put so much care into making sure everything is in proper condition before I leave with it.

Staff were very helpful and didn’t mind when I made a few last minute changes to my order. Everything was pretty inexpensive too!
The only downside was that I was unable to rent a slider that I’d reserved because someone was late to return it. Overall a good experience though.

It’s been awhile since I’ve been here, but I think this is a newer location.
I’ve always had good luck with them. They have a good selection of video cameras at reasonable prices and do have discounts sometimes. They have good quality commercial cameras as well.
Salespeople have always been really professional and polite and are quick to help you and find the items that you need.
So overall if your looking for professional camera equipment… this is the place to be.

I am never going to Film (redacted) and Sam (redacted) again. Not only do these guys have or can get everything they have, they’ll go to bat for you in price. They consistently have saved me when I was in a pinch, and they’re always willing to work something out if my budget can’t get what I need. Everyone there knows what their doing and I never have to worry about getting something I didn’t ask for or something not working when I get it.
This gang has saved me more than I can count and I always go to them first. I’ve never been unsatisfied with their dedication and can’t wait to work with them again shortly. While everyone there is amazing, I really have to give props to Tommy, Toby, and Dan there. I’ve been working them for years now and know they have my interests in mind more than their own, which is really refreshing if you’re familiar with certain other camera stores in the LA area.

I’ve been coming to this store since it was a small closet space rental joint. Since 2004, I’ve watched this place morph into a large production studio/​rental house/​gear store, so much to the point where I feel like I myself have grown with them. I’ve recently been coming a lot over the past year and I always find myself purchasing something with a good deal. The people are always nice and very helpful, especially Zack and Ben. They have most basic things you need for small productions from lighting, to cameras and accessories. As I stated before, you can rent gear, and they have a couple little sound stages, all for the common low budget filmmaker, this place is perfect for them. I will continue to come to the place I like to call, the candy store.

I’ve been producing 30 years and have dealt with all the major vendors and suppliers in town over time: Panavision, Otto Nemenz, BERC, Bexel, Cineworks, Jack Pill, etc.
My first encounter at EVS a couple of years ago was to buy an expendable or two and I liked the experience there with a very helpful salesperson.
This week i needed to out fit an ENG kit and worked with Tommy and Ben, who are both knowledgeable and insightful about the type of I work I do (documentaries) and gear solutions for the run and gun nature of such efforts.
Even though I didn’t buy the HD camera from them (they did not offer it at the time), they suggested I bring the camera in so they could outfit and accessorize it properly.
I bought Sennheiser lav mic, a Sennheiser shotgun mic, an LED lighting kit and some grip/​expendable supplies. This kit rocks in a big way, thanks to Ben and Tommy.
Also, I had a major hand-​held shoot to do, and the camera is very front-​heavy, which was going to be a drain on me physically, esp. my wrist. Ben suggested a low-​priced telescoping mono-​pod, which turned out to be a perfect solution. I got great, steady shots, as well as some very cool high angle shots.
They will match prices on the web and go the extra mile to provide service to keep you coming back. They sell excellent equipment and are not such a huge facility that the customer doesn’t get the personal touch. I don’t often write reviews like this, but I do when the experience warrants it.

The service at EVS is so good that it inspired me to write my first review EVER! The service at EVS is consistently helpful, friendly and knowledgeable in both rental and sales departments. The other day, EVS staff member, Rey Reyes, took it to the next level, spending over an hour helping my colleague and I prepare for a shoot with a steadicam pilot. I am so grateful for the expertise, friendliness, and enthusiasm at this store. Thank you EVS!

These guys/​gals are amazing. Super helpful talkative but always have the customers best interests in mind. Don’t hesitate to ask if what you’re getting is a good product/​price they will be honest.

You couldn’t ask for a better place to rent gear. The entire staff of EVS is so helpful and affable that I want to invent excuses to keep coming back. They promptly hooked up our crew with exactly what we needed, provided clear and straightforward paperwork and even threw in a free soda! Special shout-​out to Dan for being so great today. These folks know what they’re doing and seem to love it, too. As a bonus, the location is palpably cool with many interesting things to look at during your .02-​second wait.

These guys are amazing. Best photo/​video gear shop I’ve ever been to in terms of customer service. They patiently walked me through all the options for shotgun and lavalier microphones, lighting, sliders, gliders, etc.
Everyone is so knowledgeable, and they have great attitudes. They are extremely willing to help. Wayyyyy better than the guys at other shops who make you feel like they’re just trying to hustle you for money and get you out the door! I’ll definitely be going back to EVS in the future. Maybe next week in fact.

Convenient location off of the 5. Good prices. Tommy helped me get everything I needed and even insisted on carrying it to my car!
Bonus: they have free little water bottles and cool movies playing around the store.

EVS is incredible. They have everything you need production wise, and are also so willing to recommend products or problem solves — without any expectation of increased sales. I always ask for Casey Goode — he is the BEST and he knows his stuff and he is extremely professional! Love this place and will always rent from them.

The staff at EVS have saved my ass a few times. Whether I’ve had personal equipment failures and needed a quick rental, or if I’m working with a tight budget and need to know every option that will make my project the best it can be. I’ve rented from EVS enough to know I can expect great knowledge and service every time. Chris Nolan, Dylan Sachs and all the staff that I’ve worked with have been great.

The staff here is INCREDIBLE. They took the time to clearly explain how I could alleviate the filming issue I was having. Now my Youtube channel, ‘Green Regimen’, is growing and filming is a breeze. I would definitely recommend EVS for all of your filming needs.

As an independent documentary filmmaker, I have to buy about $ 5000 in new equipment every few years. It’s a stressful process especially given the constantly changing landscape of technology. And as a female filmmaker, it can be hard to find good, solid help from sales associates who take your questions (every single one of them) seriously and respectfully.
This is my third time upgrading the equipment I make a living from: 1^st was in Boston, 2^nd at Samy’s, and most recently, EVS. I found out about EVS after talking to a female colleague who is a highly skilled camera technician. She took me to EVS and said I would be in good hands.
She was right on. EVS is now my go-​to store. They have knowledgeable and helpful staff who get to the point and the best pick of equipment on the market. i.e. they don’t sell useless crap.

If you’re like me… wait, you’re not like me. Only me is like me. Is that even a sentence? Hmm.
Anyway…
In today’s filmmaking climate, the HD revolution is undeniably seductive: shoot cheaply yet with breathtaking image quality and own the means of production. Easy right? Not really.
Why? There is a TON of misinformation amidst a confusing cloud of amateur opinion floating around on the internet. Keep in mind that the ‘expert review’ you’re depending on for camera/​lens purchase advice may have been written by someone who’s filmmaking experience consists of three ‘camera tests’ shot in their backyard in Boise.
Enter EVS. All of those filmmaking products you read about on forums and in blogs are available right in front of your face, and there are a bunch of knowledgeable salespeople (including Cody, the humble owner) available to help you at all times.
They’re not a camera store who decided to carry video equipment. They are a pro video store that has repositioned themselves to take care of all of the needs of the HD and DVSLR filmmaking crowd, one that is not trying to sell you anything so much as educate you.
Example: I’d purchased a lesser viewfinder and wanted to upgrade but Cody steered me away from the $ 400 purchase, suggesting that I wait for the new tiny monitors that would soon be released. Now that’s customer service.
And perhaps most importantly, they actually keep stock on hand! Do you like ordering mail order? I sure don’t. I’d rather actually fondle the equipment I’m looking to purchase. And apparently they have stages being built as well, so in that sense, they’re sort of a one-​stop shop.
I’ll note that parking is easy as well. Every tried parking at Samy’s? Or getting someone on the phone?
I’m in no way connected to them other than having bought gear there and to be honest, I’m generally very skeptical about semi-​pro filmmaking anyway, so take my endorsement at surface value. Your mileage may vary, but I’m definitely going back.
