I’ve been to a few Curves over the years… this is definitely one of the best. There are friendly, knowledgable staff. It’s in a great location for me. Very clean!

Curves is great and really works if you can truly commit going 3−4x/week for 30 minutes. I lost much weight going 4x/wk. However, their hours are not the greatest for me, personally-so getting in there for those 3 – 4 workouts has been difficult. They are open from early am to 1pm mon-Sat, and then from 3−8pm. So if you need the flexibility of going in the early afternoon or on Sunday(I do), then you’re out of luck. Also, Curves will make you sign a year commitment, and I believe you can only get out of it with a doctor’s note. Additionally, once you fulfill your commitment, they require 30 days written notice to quit. This in combination with their hours is not keeping with the times and the competition. For the same monthly rate, I can join a women’s gym in my neighborhood with showers and a spa/sauna, and multiple types of machines and classes that is open 7 days a week, that doesn’t require a contract(few gyms do anymore). I have mentioned this to them, but they’re not open to change. While the workout is effective when done with the required frequency, their business model just can’t compete. Finally, they need to update the music choices and aesthetics of the gym. It has a generic, corporate feel, and the music is pretty cheesy.

I recently signed up for the Curves program in Glendale. In my 3rd class I was coached to push harder and go faster on a particular machine. Later that night I was in terrible back pain. I went to see my chiropractor who informed me I had injured a disc. He also told me he has seen several other injuries from people taking Curves classes. I am now off all exercise, still in pain and incurring expense to get the injury fixed. I spoke with the owner and had email communication with her. I wanted to know if my payments would be prorated and returned. The answer is no because the letter from my doctor to no longer do Curves was beyond 3 days from when I paid for the service!!! My dissatisfaction is not about the money I paid, but the lack of consideration. In my opinion and as a successful business executive of 4 decades, the right thing to have done would have been to give me a prorated refund and offer a free months service should I decide to return.
