Catalina Verdugo Adobe

Quaint little garden tucked away in a quiet residential neighborhood. It’s small in size but has various meandering paths to discover and tour the gardens. A must visit for a quick serene getaway in a quiet well maintained garden with rich Glendale history.

A good place to go. i advise the guys to open the water and lwt people sometimes was the place especially the chairs and the piknic area. Wonderful place to go study, eat your launch. the restrooms are clean but the sitting has to be cleaned better.

Great grounds (very shaded). You might have to make an appointment with a docent to tour the adobe itself. A very nice local historcial site (it is both a Glendale and California Historic Landmark — number 637). A little out of the way, but worth it.

Tucked away back from the street in a completely residential area, Catalina Verdugo Adobe is such an unexpected little treat. This is the kind of thing that I miss living in West LA. (I miss the ‘burbs!) This is one of those historic locations that you might stumble upon while out for a nice long walk one Saturday afternoon.
Check the website or Google it for some interesting little tidbits, but this is supposed to be the oldest standing home in Glendale having been built in 1828 by the Verdugo family. There are docent and self-​led tours of the main building and the estates and as it turns out you can also reserve the picnic area in front for private events (as long as you don’t bump the ghetto blaster too loud) such as the wedding shower we attended this weekend.
The grounds are very well maintained, minus a couple piles of dog poop lying right in the middle of the walkways (even though there are sings posted everywhere asking you to keep your dog on a leash and pick up the poop! seriously though, what kind of inconsiderate cretin just leaves their animal’s feces in the middle of the path where every visitor has to traipse over and around it? *end rant*), and there are modern bathrooms for visitors to use.
The front picnic area is fairly large and was more than enough space to accommodate our group of about 40 adults. Some older ladies who kind of operate, maintain and lead tours were always on hand (though not obnoxiously in your face) and I think they cooked and catered. They even made a tequila run when they ran out of margarita ingredients! The Mexican themed event was very cute and not overdone, fitting well with the party surroundings. You could tell the ladies made everything by hand and put a lot of love into the cooking!
It was such a nice relaxing time jut hanging out… a nice nature filled break from the normal hustle and bustle of my weekends on the Westside.
