Don’t believe Linda C.‘s review, I am a long-​time customer and have received nothing but the best treatment and outstanding haircuts. Go Don!

I used to get my haircut downtown at the same place for 20 years. After losing my job and no longer traveling to the city the search was on for a new place. I went to at least a half dozen — avoiding the ‘quick cut’ cheapy places (you get what you pay for!)
Finally I happened upon Design One. BINGO! Don provides a great cut and takes suggestions/​requests well (hey, I had the same person for 20 years). He’s always friendly, knows when I’m not in the mood for chit chat, and provides good conversation when I am. Anyway. I get a great cut at a fair price. I’ve become so confident in my cut that when he hands me a mirror to check things out — I don’t even bother. I’ll stick with him for as long as he’s cutting hair OR as long as I HAVE hair. LOL! Great job!!!

I absolutely hate this place.
So here is the thing… I have been here on 4 seperate occassions and each time has been a HUGE disappointment. The only reason why I would come back was because the girl that used to work there was so nice and she did a good job. Now that she has left, there is absolutely NOTHING to draw me back to this place.
This place original appealed to me because it is «an Aveda» salon and because there is a giant sign that said «50% off Mondays». (They may have changed this sign since my visit from what I hear.) The first time I came in, there was only 1 girl working… doing hair, answering phones, scheduling, selling product, dealing with walk ins… etc. Now, I will say this… this is a very small facility that is family run. I am not beyond going to a place like this an appreciate a small buisness much more than somewhere like Mario Tricoci’s however, this was too much for one person. I was greeted right away but I had a few questions regarding the 50% off deal and some make up I wanted to purchase. The poor woman that was there to get her hair done was just «drip drying» the whole time that the girl working there had to talk to me. But even so, I scheduled my appointment.
When I came in, it took nearly 3 hours for her to complete my color because she had to stop working on me to answer phones, to deal with customer… again… too much for one person. Before I left, I had ordered make up which she stated that it would be in within 3 business days. 1.5 weeks go by and I don’t hear anything from anyone. I called to follow up and a woman gets on the phone, never apologizes for the delay and instead was very short and stern with me when I inquired very nicely about my order. She was clearly more annoyed that I was calling than making her customer happy. The next time I needed my color, I schedule again on a monday for the 50% off deal. I get done with my color and they tell me, «oh no… that is for first time customers only.» This is NOT on the sign and never explained to me. I was very upset as I had only brought a certain amount of cash with me to cover the amount. I had to leave, go to the bank and come back to pay the difference. I came back again to talk to the male owner regarding his misleading sign. When I walked in, he was on the phone (I’m not sure if it was business or personal but it did not sound like a business call). He never once said hello or I’ll be right with you. He barely even looked up and basically stuck his pointer finger up (to indicate to give him a sec) while cracking up on the phone. I literally waited about 7 mins before he got off and realized… «oops… there is someone here.» When I discussed this matter with him re: the sign, again, no apology for the misleading advertising and basically told me, oh well… if you don’t like it than don’t come.
Clearly this shop knows NOTHING about customer service. They had one girl that worked there that was courteous and did a great job. Now that she is not there… I see no reason to EVER go back or to recommend that anyone ever go here. I wouldn’t even come back if they offered FREE services for a year! That is what a bad impression these people left.
WORST review I have ever written but they have earned it.

Design One offers a high end cut, color, & blow dry without the pretense, upcharging, and hard-​selling of other salons I’ve visited. Design One is an Aveda Concept salon. They use only top-​shelf, quality products on your hair.
Design One is a small, four-​chair salon. It’s more intimate and friendly than most. You don’t feel as if you are on an assembly line or being rushed. Don, Peggy, & their stylists & staff make certain clients feel comfortable in their salon and are not happy until you are happy with your look. Don is an especially gifted haircolorist.
I’ve had my hair styled at Design One Salon for about 15 years now. I’ve flirted with other salons from time to time, but have always gone back. My husband now gets his hair cut there too!
