Crowne Plaza Lombard Downers Grove

I came to the lobby here for a craft show. Based on what I saw here, it looks gorgeous. It seems incredibly formal but modern at the same time. The ladies at the front desk are very polite, and I hope to have a stay here soon if I have the opportunity!

I would like to give this hotel 4.5 stars it’s almost a five-​star hotel. The pool is definitely one of the best in a hotel I have seen, it is huge and has shallow and deep ends. The hotel is newly renovated and modern looking. The only downside’s were no hot tub. I was graciously upgraded to a suite and it was a really nice room with separate shower and tubs. I would come here again for sure.

Too much noise from the hallway. I can hear everything someone opens or closes their doors. A simple piece of weather strip at the bottom of the door would fill the ½−¾ inch gap at the bottom, serving to muffle the hallway sounds. The restaurant was wonderful, room service was fast and accurate. The pool is nice, the fitness too is small and inadequate for anything other than cardio on a treadmill, elliptical or bike. My recommendation would be to get rid of the space hogging weight machines and add a Concept 2 rower and small squat rack with some free weights. I did request for house keeping to come to my room and clean early since I would be out of the room but it is now nearly 1:00pm, I’m back and my room hasn’t been touched. Not a deal breaker just an annoyance as were the guests who were smoking in their rooms. I can smell cigarette smoke in the hallway.

I was really let down by this hotel. I consider it a «wolf in sheep’s clothing» — a 2 ½ star hotel trying to come off as a 3 ½ star hotel. They might have renovated the lobby, but that’s where the improvements end.
The rooms are small, the bathrooms are smaller, and the TV seemed like the tiniest, most affordable deal they could pick up when renovations were done. With all of 40 channels and a picture quality bad enough to make you question your eyesight, you are better off watching TV in a hospital room. I hope you enjoy Fox News — that was at least 5 of the networks.
There were a few ants in our tiny bathroom, which was just lovely. The walls are paper thin, and you will be able to hear every Dick, John and Harry who goes waltzing down the hallway, including their conversations and doors slamming. The noises of Roosevelt Road and construction were also a beautiful symphony in the early A.M.
There is nothing modern about the rooms. The few lamps they give you do nothing to brighten up the 80‘s carpet, depressing blue wallpaper, Ikea-​like dark wood dressers, and blue paintings of some sparse leaves on a twig.
If you get tired of straining your eyes to see Fox News on the tiny TV, don’t bother trying to keep entertained on your laptop. The Wi-​Fi here changes signal strength constantly, loses connection every 15 minutes, and is excruciatingly slow.
There was no free breakfast, no water bottles, no pool toys, and the vending machine didn’t accept coins.
So now, you’re bored, hungry, dehydrated, sleep deprived, and grossed out by ants. Maybe stay elsewhere. This hotel is overpriced and overblown. Trust me — even though they have a pool and a restaurant, this is not a 3 ½ star hotel.

This hotel is old, and not in a cool retro way. The outside is nothing to look at, and I would have kept on going if I had not needed to find a hotel so close to my daughter’s college fir orientation weekend. Thankfully, I did need to find a hotel in close proximity to her school because it is awesome.
The lobby has been tastefully renovated, and my room was painted in a very pretty, almost egg shell blue. The furnishings are cool and modern, but there are signs of the building being out of date in places.
The most important thing for me is always service, and this place delivers in a way I have not seen outside of major city centers. Housekeeping did a great job, the front desk was always helpful and pleasant, and do not miss the restaurant in the lobby.

Worst 2 hours ever. My husband booked this hotel for our family to stay over night after visiting friends who live in that area. The room looked nice and clean but then We went to bed. I got a bite, then another. At first I thought there was a mosquito in the room. But then I noticed one on my back 30 minutes later; my back was covered with the sheet. I panicked and woke my husband. Yup! Bed bugs!!! They were crawling everywhere. We woke up my toddler and preschooler, inspected each other for bugs, and high tailed it out of there! Never in my life have I encountered these nasties but I guess there’s a first for everything. The night clerk said he never heard of this being a problem at that hotel but is he really going to fess up to that. Anyway, he told us they won’t charge us and offered us a suite. Obviously we declined cuz bed bugs! We were too freaked out by that point and I just wanted to get home and shower again. Now we’re tasked with making sure all our crap gets washed in hot water. It’s a pretty sobering thing when not only I had these vile things on me but they were also headed for my young children! Gross! Stay away from room 408!!!

Reading Meghan’s review made me have déjà vu all over again. We had the same experience with our wedding last September.
The ONLY reason I’m posting this negative review is my mom and I tried to rectify the awfulness following the wedding and management didn’t fix the situation.
We held our wedding at Glen Oak and they recommended this place. After the horrible experience we and a lot of our guests had combined with the lack of care from management to rectify, I seriously hope they reconsider recommending this place for weddings.
Guests were promised breakfast for two each morning — everyone we talked to had to ASK for the voucher since no one at the front desk noticed this was included in their rate.
Room block — we were assured anytime it got low, they would add more rooms. We had to call/​email countless times to have rooms added since our block sold out a couple times and we were notified by guests trying to book rooms.
Gift bags — NEVER leave these in charge with the staff. We thought it was a nice amenity when they said they wouldn’t charge to hand these out. At our day after brunch at my parents, one couple mentioned how disappointed they were to not get a gift bag that everyone was talking about. I didn’t think too much of it until I got back from my honeymoon and found out not one of the EIGHT groomsmen who booked rooms had received a bag either. I typed out an email to the manager, Becca, who said they would look into it and she was «floored.» That was the last we heard. I was so upset because we spent hours and a lot of money putting these bags together. We included Chicago goodies like Garrett’s and Frango Mints. My husband and I stayed overnight so it would have been very easy for a staff member to give the bags not handed out to one of us. I can’t believe that someone would just take it upon themselves to keep all the extra bags! From my calculations, there were at least 10.
Room compensation — We ended up having at least 30 rooms booked through our block. We were supposed to get three nights or rooms free. We stayed night of our wedding and my brother used another free room. Still waiting on another room certificate… Also we were promised a gift card for their restaurant for all our troubles which was also never received.
Room cleaning — I told management when booking here that the groomsmen would be getting ready in our room and ordering lunch. I wanted the room cleaned after they left. We returned from our wedding to find chocolate dipped strawberries, a split of champagne and… a messy room. How romantic!!! The jimmy johns box filled with trash was still there so I got to enjoy the smell of deli sandwiches my wedding night. Someone had obviously been in the room to drop off the other items and didn’t think anything of the box of trash RIGHT NEXT TO THE TABLE?!
Bar — we were also told this would be open following the reception. Found out from guests staying before the wedding it closed at midnight so everyone just hung out downstairs when we got back.
I really hope this hotel can get it together since it’s a great location and recently remodeled. You can see from my other reviews that I’m very easy to please. I also would give staff at the hotel at least 24 – 48 hours before following up again when we had issues prior to the wedding and was not inundating them with calls and emails.
Only reason I’m giving two stars and not one is the rooms were decent and my parents love the restaurant here.

We had our wedding hotel room block here. The staff was very helpful at the beginning and promised us the world. The hotel was gorgeous, so we decided that we would go with them.
Wrong choice.
First, they said we didn’t have to block a specific number of rooms and all our guests would get the rate (as long as rooms were available). People started to say they were being charged $ 30+ more than the promised rate. I called and they had to adjust this 3 times. Then, I asked if there would be a hotel bar open and they said yes. A few weeks before our wedding, they changed their answer and said the hotel bar closed at midnight but there was another bar walking distance. That bar closed at 1am and was not walking distance for a wedding party. We also asked to use the shuttle and they booked it with another group. Thankfully we had a bus available for guests, but I was very irritated. Finally, I asked how we can redeem our rooms since we had so many people booked and they are now trying to say that the night of our wedding we redeemed the room-​never telling me that was the way they worked.
The hotel was visually appealing and when we checked in the staff was pleasant for a few minutes, but not much longer after that.
Avoid this hotel if you have a large wedding and plan on having many guests stay overnight. They were not accommodating.

I travel quite a lot, and usually stay with the ihg chain. This one earned a special bonus point in my book because of the water dispenser next to the ice machine.
Manager’s special in the afternoon was great… who doesn’t like free beer!?!
The fitness center was much better than what I have seen elsewhere.

Stayed here while visiting my company’s Lombard office. The hotel is probably an older building that’s had a recent refresh. Decent-​sized king room (scenic view of parking lot…) and small bathroom, all very clean and comfortable. Smaller but not crowded workout room with new equipment. The lobby has fabulous furniture and a nice «happy hour» at the end of the day with free wine and light appetizers. The breakfast buffet is a nice inclusion and the hotel restaurant (will discuss more in a separate review) was much better than expected.

We had a mission event here. Staff was excellent. Facility was incredible. Could not of asked for anything better!!! A+++++

8^th Grade Banquet… choice of steak, chicken or veggie… did I have high hopes? Uh… no. My cynicism was disappointed.
I had ordered the steak and «Huh??» it was actually good. Thick… medium, teetering on medium rare… flavorful…tender…juicy. Nice sized portion too. It came with mashed potatoes and green beans that were cooked to perfection. I always admire a well-​cooked bean. The only thing missing were steak knives but it was still manageable with a regular knife. I had also gotten a look at the Amish Chicken choice and that looked pretty good. Word around was that this venue had been chosen repeatedly because of the quality.
Special note on the dessert… Mmmmmm It was some sort of chocolate mousse wedge almost like a slice of cheesecake but not. Super moist ultra chocolate cake-​like bottom. Super good! The slices were HUGE. I noticed that many couldn’t finish them and it wasn’t because they were tiresome after a short while. I’m not a big sweetie person but this I finished. :-D
Overall the venue is decorated with an earthy, mid-​western flavor. Wood… grasses…and I didn’t notice until someone pointed it out but the carpeting downstairs leading to our room was woven to resemble what the Midwest looks like when flying over… the fields and irrigation circles. Very cool. It was all nice without the institutional feel some venues have. Service was good too.
During the dance part of the evening some parents waited up in the lounge and that was also nice. Again, surprising. Someone I spoke with mentioned enjoying the restaurant, that it was rather unexpected and featured locally sourced food. Might have to check that out…

I thought this place was very pretty and decorated different then most hotels I have been in around that area. It’s very close to the highways and easy to find. The event I went to was held downstairs and was larger then I thought. They served us lunch in a banquet hall and we had coffee in their cute restaurant.
I have never stayed here, years ago I did do hair in a hotel room for my girlfriends wedding. The rooms are nice and lit up. Very simple and sweet. Not really a view at all but that wasn’t what she was looking for.
I like the style And look of this place. It’s in a funky spot but it’s easy access to the highways

Greeted warmly. Free drinks and snacks until 6 pm. Nice rooms. Nice bathrooms. Pool & workout room were a pleasant surprise. Breakfast is delicious. Service is fantastic. However the floor has a draft, you can hear traffic through the wall and every 5 minutes (even all night long!) is a random grumbling sound through the wall. It woke me up all night.

We were traveling with our 17 year old dog and were having trouble finding a decent hotel willing to accommodate our pet. The Crown Plaza offered pet — friendly rooms on the 1^st floor so we booked a room. We were pleasantly surprised by the overall experience. The entire hotel was newly renovated. Our room was clean with comfortable beds and an upgraded bathroom. The staff was nice and they had a good restaurant in the lobby! I would definitely recommend staying here.

I recently stayed with my girls and later just by myself. The hotel has a clean, modern look to its lobby, restaurant, pool area, and rooms, I enjoyed checking in both times as I had a good experience with Jodie at the front desk… a sweet, hard-​working and kind service industry worker I have come across in a long time. I felt welcomed as a friend not just a customer. and she remembered my name a few days later when I returned! I teach Environmental Biology — that’s how i chose the hotel — I heard they had green features! Jodie and I talked about the features, and she shared with me some information about the hotel that I could take back and relay to my students :) The girls and I felt so taken care of as Jodie went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed during our stay.
This hotel felt good — clean, relatively quiet (the heating system was quiet — i love that!), great food, nice and comfortable room. The exercise room was comparable to other hotels, The shower made some «whining» noise which i told the staff about in the morning, and they were very receptive of my informing them and took down the information — I bet it was fixed that day! Waiter was super friendly and nice as well. And, the pool area did NOT have an overwhelming chemical smell, the water was a good temperature, and when there were few people, it felt spa-​like with the wooden beams and spa music playing.
Although we live in the area… I know I will find an excuse to stay here again… the girls loved our little winter get-​a-​way — having tons of fun in the pool!
More so than ever, It matters when companies chose to incorporate sustainable business practices, and it has ALWAYS mattered how friendly and welcoming the staff is.
You have raised my «hotel bar»…I hope I never have to stay in anything less :)

Clean linens and nicely furnished decorated rooms, but that’s all I can say positively.
very short staffed at the front desk (and why does a hotel this size only have space at the front desk for 2 staff?!).
it’s a Saturday in late July and they overbooked so there were a lot of unhappy guests in the lobby this afternoon.
Tonight, I can literally hear every single word uttered by guests in rooms on both sides of mine. Sound insulation is horrible. For that matter you can hear all the noise from outside, too. Avoid if you need a good night’s sleep.

I had my wedding at the Crowne Plaza last June. My husband and I really enjoyed our wedding ceremony, reception, and rehearsal dinner here. This is purely on the wedding we had here.
When we first went to view the hotel and reception space as a possible wedding venue candidate, Kyra gave us a full tour and explained the process thoroughly with us. She was one of the reasons we decided to have our wedding here. She was so helpful, attentive, and we felt like she really cared about what we were looking for. We wanted a one-​stop-​shop wedding. In which we had the hotel, rehearsal dinner, ceremony, and reception all at the same place. This checked every box for us.
Planning: Kyra is their on site wedding and event coordinator for the hotel. Anytime I had a question or anything she answered my calls or emails fairly quickly. She was there for our tasting and helped us through every process of planning.
Ceremony: The space was perfect. We used the upstairs event space for the ceremony. It was modern, clean, and made for beautiful photos during the ceremony. We did some posed photos on the back patio which all turned out gorgeous! Kyra was there to help cue the bridesmaids down the aisle, she bustled my train (correctly, and with a French Bustle), and was there to direct different vendors. It was like having a day-​of coordinator.
Reception: I got many compliments on how good the food and cake tasted. I personally don’t even remember eating so sorry on this one! I also loved that they can arrange the room to how you want. The dance floor can come apart and be moved and arranged customized to your preferences.
Rehearsal Dinner: We used the Glen Prairie Restaurant attached to the hotel since everyone was already there for the rehearsal and we got a discount for having the wedding there. We had the buffet option in the private event room. The service was great and food was delicious, even though it was a buffet. They do offer plated options if you prefer that.
Cons: We didn’t get to use the hotel’s shuttle. We had stated when we signed our contract that this was something we wanted. Apparently there is a different contract to use the shuttle. This is a $ 100 fee and we were never told we needed to book that separately. A few months before the wedding during a phone call with Kyra, I was double checking on this and she told me we never booked it and so they booked the shuttle with a different wedding. There were 3 more weddings using this hotel the same weekend as a hotel block for guests. I was more than upset when I realized I now had to book a limo just to bring me, my new husband, and the wedding party to a place for photos. This wasted us a few hundred dollars! We were just overall very upset by this since we booked our wedding there and we weren’t offered first dibs on the shuttle service.
Tip: Do NOT pay extra for the custom lighting. This seemed like a selling feature to us at first but it ended up being a waste of $. They have a custom ceiling that can be changed to the color scheme you like. In our case we wanted purple to match the flowers, bridesmaids etc. It cost a few hundred dollars to do, although it was cheaper than up-​lighting from the DJ company. It made the photos turn out purple and looking back I wish we didn’t do it.
Tip #2: They have an awesome wall of TVs that you can use for a photo montage etc. during cocktail hour and throughout the reception. We chose the lighting over this option. I would highly suggest going with this if you have a photo montage planned.
Overall: If you are looking for a modern hotel with good service this is it. I loved having the rehearsal dinner, ceremony, some photos, and reception here. We had many out of town guests who stayed here as well. I know so many guests really appreciated not having to drive from place to place during the course of the day. The Big Day seemed to go off without a hitch and I really believe it is because of the great staff that was making sure everything went smoothly.

Wifey wanted a nite out, away from the kids. We conveniently had a friend in town staying at our place willing to watch the kids overnite, so wifey booked us a nite at this Crowne Plaza.
Maybe 5+ years ago this property underwent a renovation, and became a Crowne Plaza; I don’t recall what it was before. You can usually tell when some remodel jobs are half-​assed, but this one was a complete gut-​job. Brand new, in every aspect.
Rooms had very comfortable beds, silent HVAC with thermostat. Nice bathroom with marble surfaces. Very well appointed room.
The pool was a very comfortable temperature, and the pool house was outstanding. No hot tub, though. :(
The attached restaurant, Glen Prairie, is one of our local favorites for finer nites to dine out.
Being a local, I don’t see us being regulars at this hotel, but would highly recommend to anyone local or travelling to the area.
