Adventure Theatre MTC

Just took my 3 year old granddaughter to see Garfield at the Adventure Theater. I thought it was not in good taste for a 3 year old. In fact, as I looked around most of the kids under 7 years old looked bewildered. The language (hate this, hate that) was a bit rough. All in all, a waste of $ 40; very disappointed; hope she doesn’t have nightmares.

I love Adventure Theatre! I have seen many shows here and they are all high quality, entertaining, and very professional! This past season we saw Miss Nelson is Missing and Pinkalicious and my son enjoyed both of them. If you have a child and live in the DC area, this should be on your list to check out!

My daughter, now 9, did this camp last year and had a great time, so we signed up for a singing class at Wintergreen Plaza over the winter. The class was poor at best. The way they group the children by ages, she was put in a class with a bunch of mostly younger kids who ran around and didn’t pay attention. Every week she came out saying it was a waste of time.
In spite of that, this summer we signed her up again. This time there was a mistake and she was placed with younger kids due to that. After the first day of camp there isn’t anything they can do because parts have already been cast. I get that. But when I asked if I could take her out of camp and get a refund (after one day of a two week camp), because she was unhappy with the younger kids, I was told flatly, «we do not give refunds».
Lest someone think this has anything to do with the part she was given, it does not. She was given a decent part. I just want my kid happy and engaged, not babysitting someone else’s 6 year old.

We see (and love!) every show they do at Adventure Theatre, AND we just discovered that they offer kids’ classes in Rockville (Wintergreen Plaza, by the Food Lion and Chipotle). When we asked our 4 year old daughter what classes she wanted to take this Fall, she said gymnastics and ‘movie starring’. We chose Adventure Theatre and haven’t regretted it. Great teacher and location. No movie roles yet, though!

We took my 3yo niece to see Three Little Birds featuring music by Bob Marley. The production was fabulous! The sets and costumes were colorful and exciting. The action and story were nonstop. The show was about 40 minutes, which is perfect for a kid’s attention span. The cast and crew looked like they were having as much fun as the kids! All of the performers were excellent.
I will definitely keep them in my calendar for future visits with the kids!

I took my 2-​year old to her first performance (If you give a moose a muffin) here. She loved it. It’s the first time I’ve ever seen her sit relatively still for 45 minutes. The production was amusing and there was some audience participation. It’s meant for kids so it’s OK if your child talks or asks questions, or starts to cry and you have to leave. It’s a little pricey but nice for a special outing. I’ve never been to Glen Echo park and wish I’d found it sooner. There is a little playground and carosel to sheck out.

This kid’s theater in Glen Echo National Park is worth the money. The production quality was really professional and my 3 and 6 year old were both very engaged in Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. The grown ups didn’t find it quite as exciting, but it was a much bigger hit with everyone than the puppet theather next door has been in the past. We’ll go again.

Adventure Theater is part of the cool historic Glen Echo Park compound. It’s one of the longest-​running theatre program for children and families in the Washington metropolitan area and the experience shows. The productions are developed with the youngest family members in mind and often come with notes telling you the appropriate target market. This is a perfect venue for the first theater experience. The crowds are noisy and lively so you the parent won’t feel the pressure when your little one gets fidgety.
Couple this with the carousel and the playground and you’ve got a perfect summer outing.
