Glen Burnie Transmissions

Brought our car into our local shop for transmission issues and they told us it was «too big» a problem for them to handle. They didn’t really have anyone to recommend and none of our friends had any recommendations either so we started our search. We came across Glen Burnie Transmissions and the reviews available. It all looked good so I send an email request. The owner called shortly after to discuss the problems we were having and get an idea of what we were looking at both repair and price wise. Mark offered the free towing to get the car to them. We took him up on it, they were prompt and careful. The next day Mark called to tell us what they had diagnosed and gave us a quote for $ 550. We agreed, they ordered the parts and we waited for the call. A few days later (and an epic snow storm) Mark called to say that the repairs were completed and the problem was an easier fix than anticipated, turned out to be $ 300 instead. The car was clean upon return, it’s shifting beautifully and sounds running great. Mark was knowledgeable, honest, and easy to talk to. They for sure have our business should need need ever arise again and I feel comfortable giving 5 stars.

I found this place online our company vans teams went out so I filled out the online quote. Shortly after I got a return email from a guy Mark with a price I called and made an appointment to drop it off, when I dropped it off I met with Mark he said it would take a few day this was on Friday he said call Tuesday I called and he told me to pick it up on wed. I had an emergency come up I called told him I would come up on Friday he said don’t worry he would deliver it and he delivered the van to us that afternoon. Not all place will do this if you ver need a transmission call and ask for Mark he is a great guy tell him Tim From USCI sent you.

I’ve been stressing over my transmission ever since a scam transmission shop in Arizona charged me $ 3k for a rebuild, but they didn’t actually rebuild anything — they did a flush, which ruined an internal seal — so for 3 years I’ve lived with a slipping transmission, and not wanting to pay again for a tranny, since my car is 15 years old with 211k miles. The seal problem is bad in cold weather, so I was looking to make a new car purchase — and then finally decided that this car was just not done yet, and I just needed to pay $ 3k for a REAL transmission job and just get over the bad prior experience with the different shop. Ok just had to lay that out there, because I was looking at paying more for the transmission than the car was actually worth, had already been BURNED, and $ 3k is a lot of money, period. SO, thanks to Unilocal,found this shop and trusted the ratings, made the call.
From the start, Mark was very courteous, professional, and responsive to my email request for a quote. Just talking to him, I started to feel more comfortable about getting this done. (Side note — I called a local Acura dealer, and they were basically going to get the same tranny from GBT, but charge me about double. I’m so glad I continued shopping, and came across GBT!)
They finished the work, and towed the car the 68 miles back to Alexandria, and dropped it in the drive. Very nice. I live 68 miles from the shop, so that was a definite plus!
The only negative from the experience, but not worth taking a star for — I had locking wheel nuts, but one was missing when I got the car back, and they put all ‘normal’ lug nuts on the front, with no explanation. In talking to another person, it is possible that the lock broke when being removed, so that’s not really their fault, but I would have appreciated knowing in advance that they were going to make this switch. I had just had another shop lose the key, and literally received the replacement in the mail the day before this tranny work, but now I’m missing a whole locking nut so maybe I just need to get over having those, and stop worrying about it.
The professionalism, the work, the customer service all lived up to the prior ratings; so if you need a new (reman) transmission, you can trust these guys to fix you up, efficiently, properly, and within estimate. They know what they are doing, and they are helping overcome the negative stereotype that those shady shops have cultivated. Thank you Mark, and Paul, for everything.

My MDX lost all gearing on the beltway in the left lane and luckily we were able to coast to the shoulder safely. I was sure it was the tranny as we had to replace the tranny at 78k due to known honda trannny issues. I had it towed to my nearby repair guys shop. Once my guy looked at it they gave me an estimate of $ 3800 for a rebuilt tranny. I called around and saw GBT on Unilocal and asked how much they would charge. They gave me a $ 3100 estimate and would come to silver spring to pick it up for free. I jumped on the offer. Once GBT took a look at it they gave me a call and said it was not the tranny but a broken axle. Repair cost $ 400. Can’t say enough about a company that does the right thing in these days of most that do not. Thx to all the guys at GBT and especially the owner who simply does the right thing by folks.

This is a great place with honest people. I have been there 3 times with 3 different vehicles and they always are extremely helpful. The thing I liked the best is they don’t try and sell you things you don’t need.

This review is long past due. IN the spring of 2013 my 2003 BMW 330CI was not running right and seemed to always bee starting offf in 3^rd gear. Obviously there were several light on the dash board. I initially took it to two BMW dealers, each on telling me that i needed a new transmission cost 6−7K dollars which was reeally going to put a big hurt on me.
I stopped by GBT ti find out how much it would be to rreplace my transmission. When i walked in i dealt with the spanish gentleman, whos name i forget off the top of my head. He was very helpful and looked up used transmissions for me and gave me an estimate in the 3−4K range. Mind you, this was without having the car there. I limped in and dropped the car off one day after woork, to which they said they would take a look at it and get back to me. A couple days later, I called and checked up on my car. They said that they had cleared all the codes (which BMW had not done), and the car was running normally. WHAT! He said that what probably happened was that the car tripped a series of codes that put the tranmission into a safe mode used for emergancies. They drove it a round for around with no further issues. They not only cleared the tripped codes (something ‘the dealer didnt do) from the car, but also saved me 6K dollars. In other words, they actually did something other than just tell me whtat codes were tripped.
I highly reccommend this place.

Couldn’t agree more with the first review. Service writer was open and honest throughout. Simply put, these folks were honest from the start. Did the diagnostic code read, then the road test. Couldn’t get me in until 5 days later, they were packed over Thanksgiving. Total cost was $ 247 for a range sensor and electrical scan. Good to know that there still places that you can trust.

This is probably the BEST auto repair place I have ever been to!
First of, all they do is transmission work, in fact they do ALL transmissions (manual and automatic). Nothing else. By nature of transmission work be prepared to spend ALOT of money due to the amount of work needed to take apart your transmission. A lot meaning $ 600+ for a job (labor +parts).
They work with a towing service and will tow you to their shop and the tow service is free if you use them. Once they do an evaluation and provide you a quote, they will get your vehicle in the shop and then make arrangements for you to rent a car at a discounted rate at a local car rental place just down the road from Glen Burnie Transmissions.
The rental place and GBT will cut you a great deal on the car rental so you can continue on with your life while your car is in the shop. I have been to GBT a couple of times and it was the most seamless car repair experience that I have ever had. Even if they need more time, they have called ahead of time and explained why they need more time and will either not charge you for the extra labor, or make arrangements with the car rental to not charge you for the extra hours/​day. They make it a priority to make this as painless as possible.
The managers of GBT really believe in educating their customers on transmission maintenance. Most of them teach at vocational schools are used to training punks from the street and turning them into competent technicians. They have shop floor example of a transmission in the wait area and will show you step by step what they will do to your vehicle.
They WILL NOT steer you wrong or try to swindle more money from you. They will tell you the truth up front and if you don’t understand or believe them, they will take the time to help you understand. Ladies, I highly recommend this place because they will not treat you any differently than a man with a broke vehicle. They will not intimidate you.
I can’t say enough good things about this place. There is a reason as to why they have been in business for 70+ years. They do quality work and they have a holistic approach to customer service.
