The North County Area Library is a large, two-floor library. The book check in/out and the Kids area is on the 1st floor when the adult section and public computers on the 2nd floor. The library is clean, well lit and has an open feeling to it. I’ve been to many library’s where space if tight and not much room to move around … thats not at this library…

This library is very basic. It serves the purpose of a typical library, and nothing more. I have gone here on maybe four or five occasions. A couple of times, they have not had the books or authors I was looking for; however, they do have the ability to take requests and then transfer books from other locations, so I guess that’s fine. Here’s where I have a major problem with this library. I went in today to get some work done on a project. To my dismay, there were only maybe five stations that had an electric outlet. The rest of the open seating were large round tables, with no way to plug in laptops or electronic devices. Aside from the fact that there is no privacy when you have to share tables with other patrons, how can I expect to get actual work done when it is difficult to access an outlet? This was a sad, pitiful fail for the North County Library. I don’t know how any respectable facility can assume that only a handful of people would need to bring in their own laptops to work. I think I would have been better served by driving a little further to the West County library in Odenton. Or, to a community college. I can’t speak for all their activities, since they do seem to offer quite a few. But aside from that, this place is a pathetic excuse for a library, serving such a large community as the Glen Burnie, Pasadena, Millersville, South Gate area, you’d think they would try harder to at least get more solo working stations for their patrons, and more outlets.

I don’t read much. To be more precise, I actually read very little outside of my work but I do like movies. That’s why I love the AACPL. The system is simple. Find what you like on-line. The selection is great, from newly released to old classics. Place the movie on hold. The library will call you when it’s ready to be picked up. Get movie and you have 7 days to return it. They even have an after hours drop box you don’t have to worry or rush because you can return the DVD at any hour. I particularly like this branch because it’s close, open till 9 on most days and during the school year it’s also open on Sundays. Free movies and good customer service equals a hell yeah from me.

I really want to give this a good review but this library needs to be updated! I do not feel safe in the parking lot and the place is so rundown. I totally agree with Angela in that they should have a separate area for kids. I do not want to bring my hyperactive son there because he can’t keep quiet. But the staff is so wonderful and helpful.

This library is located just off of Ritchie Highway, across from the Harundale plaza. I only go to this library to pick up books that I have placed on hold, or to browse books quickly. I don’t spend a long period of time here, as there isn’t really anything for kids to do without disturbing others. It’s an older building with older décor that is in sore need of an update, but the staff is very kind for the most part. My son likes West County in Odenton much better because there is a delegated kids area on the first floor and everything else is upstairs on the main floor so he doesn’t disturb others when we are there.
