History

Originally built as a farm house in 1847, Tom Carlin’s warm and appealing Gladstone Tavern serves updated, classic American cuisine with an emphasis on comfort food. From appetizers to desserts, Chef Carlin’s menu is light, flavorful, and satisfying.
Gladstone Tavern’s ambiance is an intriguing mix of antique and contemporary décor that honors the building’s history and character while creating a modern, comfortable dining experience.
The restaurant’s light-filled Upper Tavern Room is perfect for private parties (birthday and anniversary celebrations, business dinners, weddings and baby showers) and includes a lovely cocktail porch. In season, outdoor celebrations work beautifully, since the restaurant features a covered bluestone terrace with handsome fieldstone fireplace and bar.

Business Owner
Chef/Owner Tom Carlin is a veteran of the kitchens of such arbiters of contemporary American cuisine as Tom Colicchio (Top Chef/Craft). Alfred Portale (Gotham Bar + Grill), Barry Wine (Quilted Giraffe), and Jonathan Waxman (Jam’s).
His philosophy is to use the highest quality ingredients in simple preparations that everyone can enjoy. He favors consitency over flourish.
He also has a strong design sensibility (and a fine arts degree from Rutgers), which he put to good use overseeing the restoration of the 1847 structure in 2005.
