After many months, emails, and phone calls, I am left to conclude that Robert Ortiz is a dishonest businessman who should be avoided.
After getting double billed, Robert was overpaid $ 1,500. When I realized the mistake, he eventually agreed that he was overpaid in the emails, and for months promised a payment, which never came. He blamed it on his one employee going to jail (probably a bad sign by itself), and on what he had to pay off to some other contractor (sketchy).
Bottom line: if you don’t want to get screwed over, find someone else to do your roofwork. Even that was done late and poorly…
(I love how the one 5 star review here is from someone cheering on Robert’s attitude… you can see how it is to deal with him through his «comeback». I’m thinking that MK’s review it real — sounds accurate).

Under-​delivery, unreliable, poor quality, and messy work.
Reliability
Poor! The contractors said they would arrive at a certain time on a certain day. Not only did they completely not show up on numerous occasions, but when they did, they were ALWAYS late and only showed up for an hour or so at time. Very inconsiderate, unreliable, and inconvenient! A job that was estimated to take less than a week took over two months to «complete!»
The quality of work
Poor! The contractors did the bare minimum to «complete» the work, get the permit signed by the city, and receive payment. They were lazy and made several errors on a weekly basis (if they actually showed up). We would point out the errors every time, and they were rarely fixed. They would try and cover their errors with additional layers of material and/​or paint instead of doing the job correctly the first time around. The final product, itself, was a messy job.
Finally, the owner kept asking for small installments of payment throughout the entire project for incomplete work as opposed to what was agreed upon in the contract. They left nothing but a poor quality and messy piece of work on our property. The errors are visible to the naked eye! How awful!
Would never, ever, ever, hire or recommend Ortiz Roofing and Waterproofing!
