Happy Smog Check

He is the only person who will check the computer for codes that will fail the smog test. This guy is amazing, fair, honest. I will be coming here only from now on. Very patient with me as I kept coming back because the car had a code from the battery being disconnected. bit finally cleared out after many miles, and now it passed. He saved me a fail test because he checked it first. BTW ANY code now is a fail in the system. Its not him its the Wonderful ca smog.

Since the other reviews are almost a year old now, I thought I’d give this place a chance. I called and he said it would be $ 50. Then he asked where I found them, I said Unilocal,and he said in that case it would be $ 31.xx + the $ 8.xx fee since I mentioned I found them on Unilocal (the same price they advertise here). When I got there and tried to confirm the price, it miraculously increased back to $ 50. I said, «I called and you said it would be $ 40 total since I found you on Unilocal.Weren’t you the one I talked to?» and he shiftily tried to claim that $ 50 was already discounted from $ 55 or some garbage. I left. Total Canal Street style crooks — don’t even try them.
Really, $ 10 doesn’t make that big of a difference (and $ 50 is a typical price), but I don’t give business to liars. Next time I happened to be in San Jose, I found a place for $ 35.

I got hoodwinked on the coupon too. Drove away $ 59.95 poorer and completely frozen from waiting in the outside ‘lounge’ area. Tried to negotiate the price to something not laughable. They were talking nonsense, and I was too cold to haggle. Save yoursef the money and frustration. Go somewhere else. Anywhere else.

So I called the owner Dong and he said I could get a Smog Check and be out the door for $ 35. So I’m thinking. Cool. $ 35 and $ 15 off with this coupon, so $ 20 Smog Check. Got quoted $ 49.95 at Precision Auto Tune where I usually go for my oil changes and tune ups. So I go there and they tell me it’s $ 55 for a smog check with the DMV certificate. I give them the $ 15 off coupon and somehow it only goes down to $ 50 because they said they had to charge me $ 10 for the service and certificate fee.
So I’m like shit… I’m already here, so I might as well. They told me it’d only take 10 minutes when it was freezing cold outside, but it ended up taking more like 20 minutes (not sure if my car initially failed the test and they had to retest it or what since no one really told me what was going on or how good my car passed the test?). I even called back the manager Dong and he said he’d lower the price to $ 40 out the door with the certificate and that he’d call his wife who works there to fix my price charged, but that didn’t happen and I didn’t feel like arguing or complaining since they’re Vietnamese and I don’t like dealing with language and communication barriers.
I obviously got hustled.
I later found out after getting my oil changed at Precision Auto Tune, that they could’ve got me out the door with my Smog Check and DMV certificate for $ 41. — I really expected this place to give a better deal and do a damn good job at it since ALL THEY FREAKIN DO is do SMOG CHECKS… If you specialize in something, you should obviously be able to do it for the cheapest price and should hopefully be the best at doing it too.
And on top of that, my car engine smelt like burnt rubber or some shit for the next couple of days and ever since I had that Smog Check done my engine has been kicking a little funny, especially when I’m idle at stop signals.
1 star for being nice and letting me sit outside on a wooden chair in the freezing cold next to their heat lamp.
