Gary Nishimura, DDS, APC

Well. I called the office because a few of my friends have recommended Dr. Nishimura as a great dentist. He may very well be a great dentist, but his office staff leaves A LOT to be desired. I called to book an appointment as a new patient, and was given an appointment for my day off. The Friday before my Tuesday appointment, someone from his office called me at 5pm and changed my appointment. I couldn’t hear the girl and she spoke so fast, and then hung up, it wasn’t until later that night I realized she rebooked me on a day I couldn’t come. I called the office really early Monday morning, and explained that I could not make it. They didn’t even apologize, but agreed to reschedule the appointment for me, but only ½ of the two hours they needed. They told me I would have to make another appointment for a cleaning (come back for a second appt). I reluctantly agreed. As luck would have it, I had to call and cancel the ½ apppointment they scheduled me, and they would NOT reschedule a new appointment. The girl told me it was because I had cancelled so many times, they would not allot me an entire appointment time. She told me she would put me on a cancellation list and if anything openend up, she would call me, THEN SHE HUNG UP ON ME! Well, I can take a hint. No thanks Dr. Nishimura. If this is how your office staff treats new or prospective patients, I will tell everyone I know to steer clear of your practice. Bummer for you!

The bridge he put in fell out 6 months later have it glued back at another dentist, it been in with no issues else where.

This review is for Dr. Kinberly Antrim — she is amazing!
I came to her over 2 years ago because I had bitten into a crab shell (which is frowned upon) causing extreme, agonizing pain. Well, that extreme, agonizing pain turned into a deep cleaing with no relief and then a (two day) root canal. I won’t disclose which tooth, but it’s a pretty big and visible one. Dr. Antrim and her staff were beyond accommodating and patient with me. The crown looks so real and hasn’t given me any problems. If it wasn’t for them I’d probably toothless and miserable.
Scheduling appoinments is fairly easy, if you have an open schedule. They also remind you about your appointments like crazy (phone call, email and text). New patients and a Unilocal check in will get you $ 256 off which includes free necessary x-​rays, new patient examination and consultation. Great deal for those who have sketchy dental insurance.
This dental office is very clean and calming. It helps with the anxiety of seeing the dentist, because as «they» say, «most people wait till it’s too late.»

I would give zero stars if I could. This is a hard-​sell dental office. My wife went in to have some work done and wanted to know what her insurance would pay. They checked… we agreed on her portion and paid ½ up front and ½ the next month. Surprise… They just keep sending her bills and saying that the insurance company wouldn’t pay as much as they thought. That’s their cost of doing business ineffectively. So we continue to receive bills with accruing service fees and late payment charges. When the office is contacted, they treat her in a threatening, disrespectful manner. Their loss anyway, as our entire family has stopped using them. It should be noted that in two years, we only saw Dr. Nishimura one time. He may be a good dentist but his office is a train wreck.

What a great practice! I have been coming to this practice for several years, and it is a great place to get my dentistry! The staff are friendly and helpful, the hygiene team is great, they are always diligent and tell me what is happening with my gums, and each of the doctors are very attentive, and focused on me as a patient. I drive here from San Jose because they really take care of me!

Top Technology impressed me and got me to come back! I had an inflamed root canal while my regular doctor was on vacation, so I turned to Dr. Nishimura’s office, my husband’s dentist, for help. They got me in the next day! I was seen by one of Gary’s other dentists, but like I said above, I was impressed with all the latest technology, especially when it came time to fit for a new crown, I watched the «imaging machine» copy all the dips and peaks of my tooth post, and then I got an even bigger surprise to get a crown made and installed right then!
It went so smoothly, no temporary, no coming back for the new one!
I really appreciated all the explanations, although for me most of it wasn’t necessary. Pricing was slightly higher than what I was used to, but to me it was fine, worth it.
I have to be honest that this review is a few years late, I’m just now getting onto the review boat, it does help consumers to make better informed decisions, but it stands to show how impressed I was.

I was a long-​time patient of Nishamura, but recently switched to a new dentist. I will say that Nishamura is a great dentist, when he is actually the one to see you. I noticed however quality of service started to diminish rapidly when they hired new docs. I was seen by Dr. Yeung on one occasion, who tried to convince me to take a procedure that she later admitted wasn’t necessary. I was also dissatisfied with Dr. Hemingway who seemed to be more interested in expensive procedures than my actual dental health.
Thankfully I am with a new office that is more conservative about which procedures they recommend. My teeth (and wallet) are happier and healthier. Its unfortunate that what was once a great practice has come to this, so do yourself a favor and avoid them.

My experience in coming to this office has been superb! Leslie, who cleans my teeth is gentle but thorough. I have a very sensitive mouth and she has even recommended a great product to help my dryness. Because of the dryness problems, I have needed a lot of work done in the past year. Both Dr. Nishimura and Dr. Wu were gentle and did a good job. Even when getting anesthetized, (the needle) each assistant was so gentle, there was no pain.) Most recently, I needed two crowns replaced and Veronica (I am not sure of her professional title) did most of the work. She is excellent! As mentioned by other reviewers, the staff is always letting you know what they are doing and why. Having dental work done makes us feel very vulnerable, but I can put my complete trust in them.
And yes, the front office does a commendable job too! Why would anyone want to go someplace else? This office is the best!

I love everything about this dental office, very professional on all ends and Dr Gary is very caring and attentive. I’ve had quite a bit of work, and never any pain and I’m getting wonderful compliments on my smile. I live in Los Gatos but am more than happy to make the drive for the wonderful care.

We have gone to Gary and his staff since 1984. There are many dentists in town we could switch to if we desired. I am really afraid of having any dental work done, from xrays to cleaning to (heaven forbid) fillings or crowns! That is my own issue, but i have to tell you the staff and Dr. Nishimura have gone out of their way to make me feel relaxed and keep everything quiet and calm. Also my children and now my grandkids go here and they are always excited to come see the dentist, which says something! My teeth look and feel great and the appointment is on time and as long as they say it will be.

We have been patients of Dr. Nishimura’s practice for over 15 years — for many, many procedures over those years! Gary has the latest technology, but one thing that hasn’t changed over these years is feeling cared for as patients. My Hygienest is beyond wonderful (they all are) and the two dentists are just as nice (and thorough) as he is. I agree with Eric F., most medical and dental offices set up your next appt. while you’re there; no big deal. Easy enough to change online or with a phone call. No one actually looks forward to going to the dentist, but with Nishimura & Associates, you have the best of all worlds, in our opinion.

Clinically excellent. All of the dentists in the office are excellent. Dr. Nishimura also runs a very good business, getting his patient’s seen quickly and keeping them abreast of what is going on with them. The hygienist are also very good technically and professionally. I see people complain about the year out scheduling and payments. This is a generic problem for most offices. I schedule a year out and have them send me reminders of the appointment by text, email, and phone. I then change the appointment to suit my schedule. Is that too hard?

I just left there office after a regular cleaning and check up. They said they needed to get some xrays because i havent been there in about a year. When went to pay they charged $ 319. When i asked why so much? She said they had to charge me for the xrays. If they would have told me i had to pay for the xrays, i would have simply told them to proceed with the cleaning only. I definately feel misled especially since every dentist offers FREE oral exams. Sorry, but I WILL NOT be coming back.

I’ve been coming to this dental office since 2010, and couldn’t be happier with the service and the quality of work. I have been worked on by more than one dentist at this office, and all of them have gone out of there way to explain what they are going to do and why. It’s comforting to be shown the x-​ray and to have the dentist explain what the problem is.
The front office staff is also very friendly and conversational.
They also play movies for you while they are working on your teeth, which helps to make the horrible chore of getting your teeth filled a little bit less miserable.
Overall, I highly recommend this dentist if you are looking for a new one.

I have been a patient here for over ten years. They are always friendly, professional, and really get the job done! The business has grown a lot since I first came. At first, it was only Dr. Nishimura, but now he has several associates (other dentists who work there). My husband has Hemmingway and likes him so far!

Dr Nishimura has been a good dentist, but he recently had new dentist join his office. The new dentists are more interested in doing procedures that make money rather than do what is necessary. They snuck the new dentist in on me and I never got to see Nishimura again. The front office is a mess as well. The staff is too large and they are unable to get things done correctly. I have been over billed, and when I noticed it they took me through a long process to correct it. When they were correcting it they wanted to put a credit on my account instead of returning my money to me. What a crock. Also they are pretty expensive considering that they do not implement newer dental technology. You would think if you are going to pay a premium you would get the newest and best services. I have also tried multiple times to get my x-​rays emailed to me and it is a hassle. There is apparently only one person in the office (let’s call her Stephanie) that is supposed to send x-​rays. I have called Stephanie repeatedly and it seems that she is never there. I left messages with instructions to send them to no avail. How long does it take to send an email really? Even more alarming is that this office calls patients and leaves messages saying that they need to call the office because they are «worried about their health». I live out of the area so I go to this office when I am in town. I did not like that they are fishing for appointments under the vail that they were concerned about my health. Pretty unethical in my opinion.

Ok, so I put off going to the dentist for wa-​a-​a-​a-​y-​y-​y too long. I’m sure I’m the only one who’s ever done that. I’m not sure where to start, but I guess what you need to know is that Dr. Nishimura’s office is the most beautiful dental office I’ve ever been in. Next, every one of the staff is friendly, upbeat, helpful, polite & caring, not to mention, professional! I have never had such a great experience «going to the dentist». Did I just say that?
I must conclude by saying that I am really happy I went to Dr. Nishimura for my dental needs. I had an excellent experience, great results & actually look forward to future visits.
I can’t recommend Dr. Nishimura more highly. It’s clear to me why he was voted «#1 Dentist in Gilroy»!

I was a patient for 2 years, and saw the actual dentist once.

I came here on a recommendation of a co worker years ago.
1. The staff was always friendly.
2. Never had to wait long for an appointment.
3. The dental assistants were VERY good at telling you Exactly what they were doing, when they were doing it and WHY they were doing it. They asked if you have questions and make you feel comfortable.
4. The doctor was excellent. He was also very informative and gentle.
5. I never left this place in any pain or frightened to come back.
I only wished my current insurance would cover my visits here.
