Ulta Salon Cosmetics & Fragrance

Ulta is a great beauty store in general. But THIS location in particular is fantastic!!! I had just had a terrible experience at Sephora (rude rude help) so I brought myself to ultra. Lisa approached me with a smile and asked if I needed help. I told her what I was looking for, and she helped me right away. Helped me find EXACTLY what I needed, sat me down and applied the testers. No pressure, no rude remarks, just GREAT customer service!!!

I went to this Ulta to try and find makeup for sensitive skin. I have a skin condition which makes the skin around my eyes very dry, irritated and red. The employees were very rude. They treated me like I wasn’t supposed to be in their store. Sorry I can’t wear makeup all the time and my skin acts up. I’m not an animal. It wasn’t just one employee who was having a bad day, it was 3 employees who treated me like I was wasting their time.
Not only that, but the makeup they suggested for sensitive skin was horrible for skin. (I looked it up later.) It was like none of the employees took the time to care about what they were doing.
Employees definitely need customer service training!

I’ve had my haircut in this salon by multiple people and it’s been consistently good.

I used to come here for a cut/​style with Lacey Jo (who is amazing). To save money I have been going to other places. However, I decided to come back.
I called for an appt and was put on hold for 10 min. Finally, just gave up. Then I realized you can book online. Scheduled an appt and got a confirmation. The next day voice-​mail saying that was not a valid day and time (the salon will be closed). Then why I offer it (and it still is shown online) as an available slot?
I miss Lacey Jo but when I can’t even get in why bother. They also are Very Expensive.

Bad attitude consultant: I’ve never been to ULTA for their professional services but my mom wanted to take me to get an eyebrow consultation. We had an appt, and got there a little early. My consultant was not immediately available (the girls at the register were very nice and offered us cold waters, and said Terri was coming but she was wrapping up her lunch). Mom and I waited for a bit until one of the staff suggested we could shop while we wait. So we meandered around the store for a bit. Finally Terri came to find me. I was immediately turned off by her rude attitude when she ordered me to follow her to her chair. I could tell she was fuming about something as she stomped to her area and impatiently waited for me to pull my hair back out of my face. Literally the point of the appt was that my mom hates how I do my brows (too straight, no arch) and she thought we were going to get an expert to help. Terri penciled in my brow where the hair is (too straight, no arch) and seemed like she wanted to call it a day. My mom insisted that she try to pencil in an arch, and asked if she could do that? Terri said, «I could but it would look FAKE.» Still, my mom was not giving up, so Terri did as she asked. I hate confrontations and knew my mom was six seconds from asking to speak with a manager, so I started asking Terri about herself and how long she’s been doing make up, etc. She seemed to lose the bad attitude and started giving me helpful tips. Her demeanor was never bubbly and warm but she was nicer and seemed to be less tense. At the end of the appointment she didn’t ask if I was interested in any of the product she used, but she did agree to schedule another appointment for a full makeup application. The price seemed reasonable, so I agreed.
I didn’t realize the eyebrow appt was free, maybe that was part of the problem? Or Terri just had a bad day? The end result is that the experience was supposed to be fun girl time but I ended up walking out feeling like I narrowly avoided a war. I’m debating canceling my appt now that I read the other reviews of this location. Will review again if I decide to go!

Horrible customer service! Sales staff needs training and management is never on site. The store shelves are always empty and never have the product in stock. Sales items are never displayed out on time. If you have a sale on your products you need to be stocked and ready for the customer when the stores opens. Opening the boxing during the sales and not being organized is NOT good customer service. I shouldn’t have to ask for products that is listed in flyer. I am shocked that sales staff doesn’t know what is on sale. I don’t like seeing tables at the front of store with huge signage — $ 12.99 for shampoo — go to the counter to pay for it and it’s ring up for $ 15.99. The cashier tells me I’m sorry but they have the wrong product on the table and they have charge me the higher price. Came back to the store the next day and they never fixed the table with the wrong product. This store needs help!
Don’t even get me started with Ulta Hair Salon. The stylists can’t keep their the appointments they book. Always calling in sick. Stations are dirty. Nothing like waiting for the stylist to show up for your appointment and 20 minutes goes by and a sales associate tells you — your stylist called in sick.
This location needs a kick in the ass and additional training.

Management at the San Tan Ulta should invest in customer service training for their cashiers. Every time I visit this store the cashiers are rude and unhelpful. I will drive 5 miles out of my to go to another location.

This review is for the salon services.
I came here to get my hair highlighted. I had bad roots and wanted more of a full coverage look. I asked my stylist, Gloria, if I should dye my whole head or highlight. She suggested highlighting then she would go in with a root touch up. This sound like a good idea to me.
Gloria was super friendly and I really wanted to like her.
She took off the towel for the grand reveal and right away I told her it was too light and brassy. I had to ask for toner. Asking for toner as a blonde is my #1 pet peeve. I expect stylists to know to use it, and I shouldn’t have to suggest it.
Anyway she used toner which helped a little in toning down the brassiness but the color was terrible. She kept explaining I wasn’t used to seeing my roots covered which I felt was true. I went home still not happy.
the result left me crying… seriously crying in my room for days.
I called back to see if the damage could be fixed before going back to New York. At this point my hair was yellow like a pineapple. Still crying went to the salon met with another stylist. She told me we can’t do anything. NOTHING. Except wash it and hope it fades. I was terrified. We went for a washing and my hair was still yellow.
She explained another customer came in with the same problem, they tried fixing it but dyed her hair purple instead. yikes. Seems like they have a major problem.
The new stylist tried to charge me for a wash… a wash!!!
I left again crying over my yellow hair that couldn’t be fixed. Went home and googled solutions. Using purple shampoo came up. So I did just that. And fixed my hair myself.
I’m pretty disappointed the stylist didn’t give me this tip. It would’ve been nice since ulta is a beauty supply store for her to suggest purple shampoo and a product while there, but nope. Luckily, I had purple shampoo at home. It’s a hair saver.
Never again will I trust ULTA with my hair. The experience was awful and my hair still looks pretty messed. Luckily, roots are growing back.

I used to get my hair cut here, but the gal left, so that stinks.
I would probably buy more when I’m there, but the shelves and displays are always a mess. Many times, what I’m looking for is out of stock.
I do wish the employees were more willing to help me find something, if I haven’t been able to locate it. And I’d sure appreciate a friendly exchange when I’m paying. I never walk out of there for less than $ 50, so a «have a nice day» wouldn’t be too far from appropriate

The San Tan Ulta is not terribly far for me, but I have a few that are closer. I happened to be in the area on Wednesday and stopped in to see what NYX SMLC they had in stock. To my surprise, it was fuller than most– however the colors I was interested in were ALL opened. None labeled as testers. What?
I took the lip colors of my interest to the counter, since there were no assistants nearby, and asked if they had a backstock. She explained what they had on the floor is all they have but assured me that Thursday they would replenish the stock and I should check back in… which I did.
When I returned, sadly none of the colors were restocked. Were the days mixed up or…? Its really hard to tell. They selections of products throughout the store is much messier than others I have visited.
I picked out a few other items and while in line I pulled up their current coupon on my phone from their website. The cashier told me she would not accept it. I looked at my phone again and the dates were valid. I had to ask her again to please look at the coupon and after a few minutes of going back and forth she said «Oh, yes I can take this!» :/​Why would you not have been able to?
I just didn’t feel them go above and beyond here. I won’t be back.

I usually shop at the Queen Creek or Mesa location because they’re closer to home but I’d spent 3 days calling several locations across the valley looking for a particular Tarte eyeshadow palette that was sold out everywhere, even online. I needed it for a wedding in a week. I called this location around 11:30am and could tell they were busy but the women on the phone (Shanna or something similar…) was very nice. She initially thought the product was out of stock but took an extra second and found one available for me that she immediately put on hold.
I got to the store around 3 and it was packed! I got my other products and stood in line (about 5 minutes) and met Yvette at the cash register. Initially she could not locate the palette behind the counter but after a few minutes of searching found it in the back. They hadn’t put the new palettes on the floor yet because there was a Tarte event the next day at the location. Both women took the time to find me the product I needed even though it was out of their way. She was so sweet and apologetic, even though there was nothing to apologize for. I appreciated the great customer service when they were obviously super busy. Very happy!

Recently had my hair done at the Salon. I usually see Gloria, but because my schedule wasn’t as flexible this time, I got in with Becca. She was so sweet, however she failed to give me the hair cut and color I asked for. When I confronted her at the end of the appointment, she brushed off my concerns and ushered me to pay and out the door, saying I was just in an «adjustment period». I will not be going back to this location.

I prefer to shop online with Ulta because the store experiences are usually horrible. This particular location was slow in regards to checking out and the staff pretty much followed me around the entire time. (Note to staff: I have a really good, awesome paying job so I don’t feel the need to steal nor would I. You guys lack the proper skills to excel at customer service and the environment sucks! Going forward, Sephora will be my one stop for ALL my beauty needs.)

Nine times out of ten, I have an excellent experience here. They’ve always been helpful and are willing to go the extra mile to make me happy. I’ve been a level 7 customer more than once because of this store’s diverse selection of hair, nail, and beauty products. The associates also explain the use of the product and make recommendations if you are a little lost, as I have been before.

Had my children with me… 3 boys. I did not want them running around breaking anything so I decided to use a small cart from Marshall’s so that I could spend the 100 plus dollars I was planning on. Anoth rude women pointed in the general direction I for the item I was looking for, helping me was out of the question since she was in an intense conversation with another employee. One women walked up to me and said they do not allow carts in the store. I did not agree that this was a regular size cart and reminded her that I had planned on spending 100 dollars on makeup. She said that did not natter that I needed to leave with the cart. I told her this is smaller then a double stroller she said they don’t like those in there either. Don’t shop here if you have children they are obviously not in support of mothers!!! Will never shop here again. Sorry for the bad grammer to mad and offended to care.

Love going to ULTA, especially the Chandler one. Was in the area and gave this one a go. Still the best place to shop for beauty supplies. The workers here were awful though! They made my shopping experience a head ache, constantly watching me and bothering me. I appreciate the help but less pushy please!

I normally shop at the Ulta near Chandler Mall… went to this one because was in the area… Walked around the whole store trying to find mascara… there was no one around to offer assistance… when I finally did find my brand, they were all out of the mascara that I use (I use several different ones too) Disappointed with this visit.

Went here for a bang trim, since my usual place is too far. I typically have a bad experience when I get my bangs cut, with hairdressers always chopping them too bluntly or too short. Pamela cut my bangs and was amazing at gauging exactly what I wanted, she understand the too short, too choppy issue without me saying anything and was quick, to boot. I’ve decided just from this bang trim to make Pamela my regular stylist. Overall, great experience and would recommend!

I can say that I have had ok experiences with their salon department, but the cosmetic side is downright awful. Today was the last straw for me.
Literally, EVERY SINGLE TIME I go in there to stock up on my cosmetic products, they are out of most of the things I need. I don’t know who is in charge of maintaining their stock, but they have no clue what they are doing because they can’t ever seem to keep enough product on their shelves. It’s been this way for over a year. Want the latest eyeshadow palette that came out? Forget it, they’ll be out of it. Looking for your favorite black eyeliner pencil? Forget it, they’ll be out of that too. Want to shop for a new eyeliner because they are out of yours? Ha! Good luck finding a tester and having to spend $ 20 on a new one without knowing if its worth the money.
On top of that, while shopping today, I was watched like a hawk by the lady working in cosmetics. She was really friendly, but goodnight! I don’t want someone standing 5 feet away from me as I browse the isles for 45 minutes. Whenever I changed isles, she did. It was so absurd. Sorry I didn’t curl my hair to perfection and put on a ton of makeup before I came shopping today, but this isn’t Scottsdale and it certainly doesn’t mean that I’m a thief.
So I finally went to check out, expecting that since I was spending the $ 30 or more on Benefit products, that I would get my free travel size Benefit items that they were promoting on signs in the store (hooray for free travel size of They’re Real Mascara!). Did he offer them to me when he finished checking me out? No. I had to ASK for them as he was trying to send me on my way, and then acted like I ruined his day by bringing it up. Ridiculous.
I won’t be shopping here anymore. I am not going to spend money on high-​end cosmetics at a store that treats me like a thief, is constantly out of everything I need, and doesn’t adhere to the special promotions that THEY have advertised. No thanks.
Sephora here I come!

Positives: anything and everything I could want/​need on one store.
Negatives: pushy employees-​I was in the store no more than 5 minutes and had about 7 employees approach me trying to sell items, show me items, or offer help. I HATE being bombarded by sales people. Let me shop and I’ll ask you if I need anything. Prices are also higher than most stores for the same exact product.
I don’t think I’ll go back unless I have a coupon for a specific item that I need.
