R&K Building Supplies

Very helpful in directing us to the right replacement hardware choice. They went out of their way to show us many alternatives and were knowledgable about the intricacies of what was a complex combo of original and 3^rd party hardware. Very pleasant and thorough in outlining all of our choices. They were also trying to save us money where possible which was appreciated. We would definitely go back for future projects. Worked with Eddie. He was very polite and responded to calls/​concerns quickly. He was very helpful in helping us pick doors.

R&K requires you to pay 80% of the cost of the entire job (not just the doors) before they even order the doors. We thought that was outrageous since as most of us know what happens when the contractor has most of the money is his pocket (service/​control degrades quickly). We weren’t crazy about this and they did accommodate us a bit regarding this which made us feel more comfortable to proceed.

We had a disagreement on a fix several months after the install. Basically they installed the two doors in close proximity to each other but they did not key them to the same key. They wanted me to pay $ 125 to fix this. A piece of my email response to R&K…
«I don’t feel your stance is the correct one. You can agree that this was overlooked during planning and installation but then you still feel I should pay as if that didn’t happen. When you consider how much we paid for this job this would have been a cheap fix for R&K (less than 1% of the total job cost). When you look at it that way even if I was totally wrong (which I do not believe I am), the end result (a happy customer) is not worth a 1% concession? «

***Installation***
We are happy with the installation. The installation job appears to be of high quality. No issue yet.

***Trim***
The guys that did it were very nice. We showed them a picture that at a glance they did succeed in matching. However, it just didn’t look right in person. It’s like it was missing some craftsmanship (hard to explain). Anyhow, we decided to pay the people that did our kitchen cabinets an extra $ 500 to tear it out and redo it. What a difference that made. Night and day.
We never complained to R&K about it because we liked the guys that did it and technically they did match the photo that we showed them. However, the moment we hired the other trim pro it was apparent that his skill level was far beyond what R&K could provide. He not only matched the photo but immediately guided us into options that would make it look much better and guided us away from details that would make it look bad. He was more expensive $ 500 vs $ 300 that we paid to R&K for the trim but the difference was astounding.

***Recommendation To Others***
I would use R&K again to install doors or windows. However, I would not have them do any of the finish work. Don’t be surprised if they don’t go above and beyond to make sure you are happy. You will likely get a solid job done with no frills.

Called to get a bid a week ago. Gave my information to a women that answered. Said she would give my information to the guy that does bids. well it’s been a week never received a call… oh well I got someone else doing the job.

Just walked in their showroom and left after a few minutes. There were at least four people working in the showroom and not one of them acknowledged us the entire time. The most unfriendly place I have ever been in. Customer service is obviously not a priority for
R&K.

R&K installed a Milgard replacement patio door on the back of my house this morning.
Pros:
*Professional, friendly salespersons, estimators and installers.
*Excellent showroom with full-​sized working doors as models.
*Estimators and installers show up at your home on-​time and fully prepared.
*Costs in the mid-​range of a half dozen estimates for the quality and features of the door.
Cons: None.
R&K has several parts to their business (doors, windows, building materials, etc) located across several different buildings in the same shopping complex. I originally made the mistake of going to the building labeled «Doors» and was redirected to the building labeled «Windows» to look at and order patio doors (maybe because patio doors are just large sliding windows?).
Overall, I highly recommend this business.

Shelly was wonderful to work with. She took our «why did we wait until the last minute?» attitude and turned it in to a good days work. I ordered some beams and fascia and she went above an beyond to find everything we needed and get our trailer loaded up. There was zero discrimination against our tiny project. Everything was done quickly, we hardly waited on anyone the entire day. I will absolutely work with them as much as I can in the future.

Rand K is simply the best place to get your building supplies. I buy all my supplies there and recommend them to all my clients. They have great prices and honest service. You can’t go wrong with R and K!

Most people just run to Home Depot when they are getting ready to do home improvements because they cater to the DIYers and don’t force you to buy wholesale amounts. Don’t be afraid of the large building suppliers they all have a customer store front that you can go into and pick what you want. My neighbor got new bedroom doors in his house and they were a lot less than HD. I told him i needed new doors and baseboards and i wanted to put up some crown molding as well, he told me to try R&K and they are awesome. they have a door showroom for exterior and interior doors, and all the different kinds of trim you can think of. Steve, or Dustin will treat you good and find what you are looking for. It is so nice not to have those hideous brown wood grain doors on my bedrooms, instead i have nice paneled doors with beautiful hardware to make my home look newer. I don’t know if crown molding is still in, but i love the fact that i don’t have to do such a good job with my painting of the walls with the ceiling, just cover it with the molding. that’s it.
