Pete and Mac’s Pet Resorts

My dogs love going to Pete and Macs. I trust very few to watch my Dogue de Bordeaux, and this company has gone above and beyond to earn that trust. My 2 dogs come home clean and tired after their boarding.

I am not sure what was wrong with the 4 employees who watched me walk into this business to get information but NONE of them greeted me and NONE of them were willing to help me. After standing in their presence for several very uncomfortable minutes and getting ignored, I walked out. I need to find a Kennel for 3 separate trips 1 – 2 weeks each between now and October. How can I trust them with paying attention to my 2 dogs if they don’t pay attention to the person who was willing to pay them? Their loss. The employees were a skinny blonde girl hiding behind a computer who wouldn’t even look at me, a black girl (who was on the phone for part of the time yet she still could have acknowledged my presence) and 2 dudes who were chatting and watching me.

I will say the customer service is excellent my Dane was cared for by them she looked happy tired and clean. Danes are not easy to look after they had no problem with her. The biggest surprise was the follow up day’s later made me feel as if my dog and myself was important.

Our first trip was for day care. Our puppy was about 10 months old 35 lbs. she had never been left before but she socializes with other dogs a lot. So I wasn’t too worried.
She came home exhausted and soaking wet — however she came home with deep puncture wounds under her neck that became infected almost immediately and it ended up costing a trip to the vet ER and about $ 350!
So either there was no supervision or they were really clueless as to the intensity of play time.
I informed the staff and they did call the next day to see how she was doing and offer some free daycare. Have not gone back yet but will not allow her in with the big dogs.

Skyler has been going to Pete and Mac’s for several years now. Usually one or two days a week to play in the small dog day care group. She loves it and everyone is always so good to her. She has also stayed for several days in boarding when we go on trips. We have her play in day care everyday then. She always has fun and comes home exhausted. She also has her hair done there and always looks so pretty. Really I’d say Pete and Mac’s is her 2^nd home. I would definitely recommend Pete and Mac’s:)

We left our boxer for a long weekend at Pete and Mac’s for the first time. He had a great time and was zonked out when we brought him home. He left behind a ball that he enjoys to play with and they promptly called to let us know. Extremely courteous, professional and polite. I’ll definitely use them in the future! Thanks for taking care of my furry pet!

I have two spoiled rescue dogs, one has horrible separation anxiety. The friendly staff is always very patient with our furbabies. When we can take them with us, we ONLY use Pete and Mac’s in Gilbert!

I dog just love taking a vacation at Pete and Mac’s. When we took here for his last stay, he was so excited, he did not even say goodbye to me.

I’ve debated whether or not to write this review, but I decided to write it to hopefully protect other dogs from what my poor dog went through at Pete and Mac’s. We went out of town for a long weekend and left my two Boston terriers at the Gilbert location for two nights. On the second day, we got a call that my twelve-​year-​old dog was being taken to the emergency vet after overheating with a temperature of 105 degrees. We immediately rushed home from our trip to pick her up. At the emergency vet, the doctor told us that a representative from Pete and Mac’s told her that our dog was left outside for an hour on a day with temperatures reaching 108 degrees. Her body temperature had reached 105.4 degrees.
The reason why I was reluctant to leave this review is because Pete and Mac’s immediately accepted responsibility. They did not charge us for their stay and paid the emergency hospital bill of over $ 1300.00. However, this was also an indication that they knew they had made a terrible mistake. My dog is old and only weighs 12 pounds. I can’t believe anyone could be so careless.
The most devastating thing of all is that my sweet dog is now deaf. I took her for a follow up appointment at our regular veterinarian two days after we picked her up, and he said it is entirely possible that her extreme body temperature caused that damage to her hearing. She could hear when I dropped her off at Pete and Mac’s, and now she doesn’t even hear me come in when I’ve returned from work. It’s been a truly heart breaking experience for my family.

I like that they are attentive and polite when booking. I do believe they care. Issues I have noticed:
(1) 7÷19÷15 last time I picked them up they didn’t feed my dogs as instructed with vet prescribed canned food. Pretty important. I didn’t realise it until my wife asked if there was any food left after check out. They went in back and brought back both cans that were supposed to be gone only after we asked the question.
(2) On my last visit in June 2015, I was not given any food or my measuring cup back after I picked up the dogs. Either the dogs were over fed or they threw away or stored the excess food for unknown reasons. They also tried to keep the Tupperware.
I love my pets and I am a bit skeptical. I have about 12 nights for both dobies now and after 13 you get a night for free. I will probably start looking at other options and forgo the free night.

Beware! This place is terrible. We recently brought our 2 maltese babies to Pete and macs for 3 nights while we were on vacation. We paid extra To have them washed when we pick them up. The day I picked up, my dogs ha poop on their butts and on their legs. Thy had eye boogers in their face as well. When I asked the guy at the front he said yes they had a bath. I then asked a girl at the front about it and she too said that they dot clean year stains. I told her I understand but the eye boogers and poop off their butts? I mean come one.
They did end up calling me shortly after I left apologizing that no one ever washed them and they refunded me some money back.
Then, I get home and one o my babies has so bad diahreea that there is blood mixed into it. I was up every hour with her that night to let her go potty. She is very allergic and I gave them specific food for her. I don’t think they have her the food because of explosive diarrhea with blood and she was chewing her paws like crazy. Also I have them more food than what they normally eat and when they handed me the bag back it was completely empty. Weird that they never eat that much at home. I’m convinced that they did not feed the food I brought. Today is a Saturday but on Monday I am calling to speak with the manager an give her a piece of my mind.

Love this place and so does my dog! She is always tired when I pick her up but can’t wait to go back the next day. Highly recommended.

Was very upset when I picked up my 2 dogs after they spent a full week at Pete and Macs and they both smelled terrible. The Maltese was released to us with feces on his behind mashed in his fur. This never happens at home so I’m wondering what kind of care or living situation are they actually staying in. I had to take him back in to get it washed off, it was not small, it was like a regular bm stuck on him. Yuk! We have taken our pets here for years, and never has it smelled so gross and disgusting as when we picked them up as well. People are friendly but the place needs to be cleaned and disinfected daily. We are definitely looking into other options.
Also, leashed wreaked of urine, like they had been soaked in it. I’m so disappointed, this used to be a great clean reputable place. :/

I have bumped this review down to one star as I finally got a call from the manager, weeks after the debacle in which I picked up my dog with a bag full of his belongings and toys soaked in what smelled like a mix of urine and bleach from a mop bucket. She saw that i had called in to inquire and offered up a free day of boarding, not a night, a day. I laughed and hung up. They obviously don’t care about customer retention and correcting careless mistakes. Take your dog elsewhere, this place is a joke.

I brought my dog to Pete and Macs on the recommendation from a coworker. The first few visits were terrific. However last year after picking up my dog from a week stay, I spent the evening with him at the urgent care for Kennel Cough. It was terrible to see him in so much pain. I decided to start using a different kennel and unfortunately their treatment was not better. Therefore we decided to try Pete and Macs one more time. Well sure enough my dog came home with a serious cold, kennel cough and a blanket smelling of urine. I am so disappointed. The only reason they are getting 2 stars is because the staff is very polite.

If you love your pet, you’ll send them to Pete and Mac’s!
We have been taking our beagle (s) here for 3 years now. We love the attention they get and how attentive the staff is to the pets and the owners! :) We use them for daycare, boarding and grooming.
Daycare — the spend most of the day in a pack of dogs accompanied by a dedicated worker. The are allowed to roam inside and out all day.
Boarding– they can share runs and are always well taken care of
Grooming — we typically get the «Had it up to Hair» which gets everything nail to toes. We also get shedex — which also gives you a follow up de-​shedding appointment a week later!
We know our dogs love going there, but most of all, we know the staff loves our dogs coming! We get report cards and you can see that the staff is authentically excited to see our dogs again!
Again, I cannot recommend them enough!

We boarded our pets here for 1 night and 1 of them was groomed.
I think most of my criticism comes from the fact that we have a boarding and grooming place that we LOVE, but unfortunately they were full so we decided to give Pete & Mac’s a try — and I’m comparing.
Play area was nice, and larger than our normal place, so that was a plus.
The facility overall is larger, which kind of made me nervous. Louder, more barking dogs. It was kind of overwhelming when we toured and I feared it would put stress on my pups while they were there. I also wasn’t sure if that meant less attention or personalized feedback. Our other place KNOWS our pups, when I call to check on them I talk to someone familiar and they can immediately tell me how they’ve been doing because the same person has been with them, versus the number of employees I saw at P&M. I get that a larger facility = more employees, so not necessarily a criticism, it just prohibited them from giving the same type of feedback. I’ve read some reviewers say they got a report card of sorts but I was not given one, and when I called I had to wait for them to locate my dog and was told they were doing OK… Which may be the case when I called and they were laying in their kennel but isn’t indicative of the rest of their stay including their time outside or other interactions. There just wasn’t a whole lot of feedback besides they are OK…
They did a good job grooming, but I felt it was overpriced. I paid $ 60 for my 30lb cocker spaniel. Most I’ve paid elsewhere is $ 45.
All in all it wasn’t a bad experience. My dogs came home worn out and weren’t traumatized.
If I was in a pinch and had to board here again I would, just would pass on the grooming.

Cooper (my dog) and I love Pete & Mac’s. The employees are great and love the daily report cards. Cooper is always very happy after a visit with his friends (four legged and the guardians).

I have boarded my 1 year old maltipoo Charlie at Pete and Mac’s twice. They were great!
Charlie was recently adopted from a shelter and experiences moderate to severe «stranger danger» and often is afraid when meeting new people. As such, I am always nervous when leaving him the care of others. The staff at Pete and Mac’s were very accommodating and made me feel like my pup was in good hands. When I got him back they gave me a little doggie report card that told me all about his time there and how things went. It was so nice and he seemed happy and comfortable when I picked him up.
The cost is comparable to other places that I looked at and the accommodations are clean, though not exceptionally luxurious.
Overall, I have been pleased with all of my experiences so far and I plan on using them for future boarding needs. Additionally, I may check out the other services that they offer!

Today was the last day I will ever visit Pete and Mac’s. As a customer, I expect great customer service and a straightforward delivery of a product or service. When one of those things doesn’t happen, hopefully a manager is wise enough to fix the problem right away. But when a business fails to give me a positive experience AND can’t deliver a product or service successfully then they can say goodbye to my money, my repeat business and most importantly, my referrals. So not only will I give another business my hundreds of dollars, I will also make sure everyone knows how I was treated today.
Today I stopped by with my two dogs to ask questions about a reservation for this November. I was passively greeted and then began a very frustrating process of figuring out the exact cost of the stay.
Let me just stay that I have made several reservations before at Pete and Mac’s and my dog has always come home happy. It’s me that leaves Pete and Mac’s disappointed by the check-​in/​check-​out process. But this time, an employee named Jennifer really dropped the ball. She was straight-​up rude when she saw that I had a list of questions, gave me the impression that I was holding her up from more important tasks, and never once thanked me for my business. In fact, she treated stamping my Pete and Mac’s punch card and Unilocal discount like I was bothering her. Like it was some sort of big hassle for her to honor my discounts. Instead of acting like I’m a big thorn in her side, why not show appreciation for my repeat business? This was a missed opportunity on Jennifer’s part. I’m not saying she was cursing me out or yelling at me in any way but being rude and passively aggressive to a customer is absolutely poor customer service. There were two other young female employees who came out to say hi to my dogs and they were very friendly. They should be the girls sitting at your front desk. But for employees with a bad attitude like Jennifer, I guarantee you poor customer service is losing you money. For me, I am canceling my November reservation that I made with Jennifer today and will not be returning during Christmas break or any other day for that matter.
I work with small business all over the world and here are things your company is doing that are LOSING you revenue.
–Your store hours are limited. Extend your hours so that people don’t have to make vacation plans around what time they have to pick their dogs up. Somebody is already there ²⁴⁄₇ right? Train them on how to check people in and out like other dog resorts already do.
–Hire friendly employees to work the front desk. A sour face and bad attitude will turn off new and old customers. And if someone has questions, treat them with respect and answer them patiently, not like you’re in some rush to go something better. Jennifer seemed annoyed by me and then when another customer came in she totally ignored him. At least say «It’ll be a few minutes» or something!
–Be flexible with your prices. Why should I have to pay and extra $ 12 daily for the Pampered Pet package for the length of my stay? What if I don’t want the Pampered Pet package for the entire stay? What if I just want it for 3 out of the 4 days? It’s $ 12 a DAY right? Jennifer made it perfectly clear that there is absolutely no way you can do this. That’s ridiculous.
–Accommodate special requests. Your website says that you understand that my dogs are my furry kids. Yet when I ask for a room in a quieter area since my dogs are not as rowdy as others, Jennifer said «We don’t do that, it’s whatever’s available». Well, why not at least TRY to accommodate-​I was letting you know for a November reservation, isn’t 2 months enough time to book us a room on the quieter side of the kennels? Also, I asked for a printed copy of the requests I made today and Jennifer said, «There’s no way for me to print notes.» Really? It’s 2012. Print my notes. I settled for emailing it to my but that was my suggestion, not hers. Also, noting my requests on the back of some receipt isn’t comforting in any way whatsoever.
–Speaking of kennels your website says that your «competition uses wire cages». Not anymore. We’re now going to take our business to Gilbert Dogs 24/​7, a place that is KENNEL-​FREE and is open ²⁴⁄₇ for pick-​up and drop off.
–And lastly, I asked for a copy of the final bill but for some reason, that’s just not possible at your business. Sure, you’ll give me a copy of an estimate but that NUMBER ALWAYS CHANGES. Frontline, add 15 bucks. Pampered Pet, add 12 bucks PER DOG DAILY. God forbid I have to pick them up after 3, another 10 bucks per dog. Your company seems to be motivated by money more than anything else. This is a poor business practice that will cause your business to sink. Instead, focus of giving the best service possible. Hopefully you take the time to listen to all of the negative reviews that are out there about you.
