Agritopia® is a community in Gilbert, AZ designed to promote «village» life and to preserve urban agriculture. Village life is simply the idea that your life is richer if we can break down barriers that prevent us from forming relationships with people from all walks of life. At Agritopia®, we focus on getting rid of block walls, putting the pedestrian experience first, offering usable porches, and having many uses (commercial, residential, schools, agriculture, and parks) all blended together.
History
Established in 2000.
Agritopia® was a family farm that grew cotton, wheat, hay, and other crops since 1927. The Johnston family decided that the farm should be developed into a unique community as the area became more urbanized. Construction of homes started in 2000 and the last home was completed in 2008. The urban farm has been in operation since 2000 and grows a wide variety of vegetables, fruit, nuts, herbs, and plants. Future development plans included assisted living and EpiCenter, which is a mixed use commercial/residential project.
