AAMCO Transmissions

Got may transmission replaced 2 years ago and have had nothing but problems since. I went back about 6 months after repair and they said the last staff were Al let go. Nothing has been don’t aboit my vehicle to make amends. Will never go back to Aamco because of it and nooni need a new car.

I will give my honest opinion, as I always do. I came here on the recommendation of my SIL as she said they had in house financing for repairs. I now regret that decision, but my hands were tied at the time. My first impression was most excellent as Liz, the district manager was in the store, so everyone was on their best behavior. I was treated with utmost respect that day. This was all between March 26 – 29, 2015.
The AC issue on my car was diagnosed and I had them check the oil leak as well. They diagnosed an additional Power Steering leak. I was quoted a specific dollar amount and decided to have the AC and PS repaired. I contacted the lender they suggested for the repairs and got approved, so I made an appointment to come back first thing in the morning 2 days later, stating that I had to have my car back by the end of that day. I figured that if they had the entire day that would be just fine. How wrong I was!
During the day of the repairs I was called with various different dollar amounts for the PS fix that were several hundred dollars more than originally quoted, so I declined those repairs. I went to pick up my car that Friday night and it wasn’t done. Needless to say, I was not a happy camper. Ricardo didn’t know if it would be ready the following day or Monday.
The team at AAMCO had ALL day from open to close to complete ONE job. They knew the job needed to be completed in that time period, as Liz reminded them on Wednesday while I was there for the diagnoses. After not hearing anything from Ricardo for several hours on the day of the repairs, I called at 3:40 to see if my car was done, he said no, but that it was CLOSE and he would call when it was on the floor.
I got there just before 5 and it still was not ready. Apparently a wrong part was the culprit, a part that they only opened at 3:30, mind you, this is BEFORE I called. That means that Ricardo knew when I called that my car wouldn’t be ready Friday at all. I really hate being lied to. Regardless of the intent, waiting for a miracle of the part to make it on the day of the repairs, or knowingly holding off the inevitable, that is not good customer service. I have been in the Customer Service field my entire adult life.
When you order parts for a specific job, especially a job that you know must be completed on the same day, isn’t it simple common sense to make sure that you have the RIGHT product immediately after receipt? If that had been done, my opinion might have been a little better. I don’t know when the facility actually received the part, but I am assuming it was the day prior, since Liz stated that she was ordering it herself on Thursday.
Ricardo’s «reason» for the mix up was that they didn’t check the part until they were ready to use it. On one hand, I understand, but from the consumers point of view, it is just an excuse, not a reason.
The gentleman from ARL was there for me to sign the loan documents and he and Ricardo were speaking in Spanish in the background. I understood bits and pieces of what they were saying. The guy kept saying Lunes, Lunes, which is Monday, Monday. I didn’t know what they were referring to at the time, but found out later that they had no intention of returning my car to me until Monday.
After hearing Ricardo out about waiting until the warehouse called him on Saturday about the part, I showed restraint, turned around, and walked out. My husband was much more gracious, thanked him, and shook his hand.
It was well after closing the following day that we actually got the car back in our possession. I have no idea if the delay was truly due to the wrong part not being there or if it had to do with the ARL agreement and the GPS unit they installed to track my car for the loan. Either way, the Customer Service sucked. I had Liz on their tails all day long to make sure I got my car back THAT DAY.
Now, to top it all off, a little more than 75 days after having my AC system replaced, it is only blowing out HOT air. I have no Air Conditioning during an excessive heat week in Phoenix and a 23 mile commute for work each way. I will be paying on the repairs (or lack there of) for the next 2 years. I am more than just a little bit pissed about it.
I wouldn’t recommend taking your vehicle to this location for any reason. It isn’t worth the headaches and frustration. I am disappointed that I have to deal with them again to fix what they already fixed. Wish me luck.

We originally took our 1998 Jeep Cherokee to a transmission shop close to our home. I had warned my husband about how some shops will try to tell you right off the bat that you need a rebuild done (have experienced this many times in the past). The first shop gave us some crazy number of $ 1500 plus and that may not even solve the problem. So we decided to take it to AAMCO for a second opinion. Ricardo called and told us that they would require a few hours of labor to dive into the transmission and try to solve the problem for us. No matter how long it took, he would only charge us for two hours. That was cool with us. We heard from him the next day and he informed us that they couldn’t diagnose the issue and most likely it had to do with the Electronic Control Module and that we should take it to a place that could look further into that. He also decided to not charge us anything for the time spent looking for the transmission issues. We ended up fixing the issue ourselves by cleaning the plugs on the ECM. If it weren’t for Ricardo’s honesty and idea to check the ECM, we would have most likely spent a fortune on fixing an issue that didn’t exist– like what the first transmission shop wanted to charge for. In a world of repair shops that insist on raking people over the coals, it’s nice to have a place like this AAMCO and someone like Ricardo who tells the truth and gives you great advice on top of it. Thank you Ricardo!

Place is AWFULLLLLLL, I mean terrible, double the price of any shop for same job, part for aftermarket through this place more then list oem, never again, manager ignorant, «Ricardo», just all in all place to stay away from

There seem to be a lot of negative reviews, but I suppose that’s natural for a repair shop. My particular experience was excellent with this location!
My daughter’s Jeep overheated late one afternoon. By the time I figured out it was going to be more than a roadside repair it was after 5PM. I wasn’t sure of our finances at that particular moment and I knew AAMCO had several payment options so I called the shop thinking I would get a recording telling me when they were opening the next day. To my surprise someone answered! I explained the situation and the person (Ricardo) said that the shop was closed, but offered to send a tow truck to get the Jeep that evening and take it to their shop. If they performed the repairs the tow would be free. That was a huge relief to say the least. Ricardo called me first thing the next day saying they had the vehicle in the bay and would keep me updated as they diagnosed. Turned out it was what I was suspecting, a bad water pump. He quoted me a price and detailed all the work they would be doing. He also explained all of the financing options to me. So far so good. Being a skeptic, I was expecting the next call to be the good olé ‘we found another problem…’ conversation. We did, but the problem was unrelated and relatively minor in the grand scheme of things. Ricardo quoted me a price on that repair as well, and knocked off some of the labor because some of the tasks were redundant for this repair. They quoted me a final price for all of the work and I agreed to have them fix it all. Work was done when they said it would be done. When I picked up the vehicle all of the old parts were there for me to inspect which I appreciate.
Overall it was a very good experience. Nobody enjoys car repairs. They are painful and expensive, but I felt like I was dealing with an honest and up front repair shop with a fair price. Staff was courteous and professional, and Ricardo definitely went out of his way to make this as painless as could be. Highly recommended!

We didn’t have an appointment and they took us in right away with a free diagnostic. This was a second opinion and they confirmed what the previous shop had said. The repairs were done earlier than had been estimated and the staff was very friendly and professional.

Our repair turned out fine, however, you completely get screwed over if you need to finance the charge! Their in-​house financing charges an interest rate of 180% interest rate! So our $ 1500 car repair turns into a $ 4200 repair if we don’t pay it back within 90 days. Absolutely ridiculous! They know people are in a desparate situation needing to get their car fixed and not able to fork out $ 2000, so they take advantage of the situation. We’re just going to pay it off with our credit card since at least that interest rate is less than 20% which is nothing considering theirs!!!

— A seperate transmission shop said that the issue could have been mistaken for a leaking cooler, but actually was leaking from the transmission vent above the cooler.
— Basically, a misdiagnosis. I never got the transmission fixed so I gave it two stars. They could have been right, but not likely.
The Story:
Brought my 2002 VW Jetta to the neighboring Napa AutoCare Center for engine issues. Was referred here to take a look at a small transmission leak. They diagnosed the leak as needing a new transmission cooler, which would have cost $ 800. We decided to think on it.
Eventually ended up taking it to «State to State Transmission» on Bell Road in northern Phoenix. They said the issue could have been mistaken for a transmission cooler leak, but was actually «blurping» from the transmission vent just above the cooler lines. The guy at «State to State» said they could have been trying to replace the cooler then hitting you with a transmission rebuild, which it actually ended up needing, or they were just incompetent.

Let me start by saying that if I could give this place less than one star… I wouldn’t hesitate.
We took our van to AAMCO because we had an oil leak. That’s it. One problem. After looking at our van we were told that our few hundred dollar problem was actually a $ 1200 problem because we also needed to replace our rack and pinion. Knowing nothing about cars we believed the manager of the shop (Bill) and gave him our money. When we got the van back everything seemed to be in order and we were happy. Bill was even nice enough to knock off some money to save us some trouble. They were closing for the day so they couldn’t take care of the alignment that we needed done to finish the job.
A day later we heard this horrible knocking noise in the front of the van. We called Bill and he asked us to bring it back. We took the van back in to find out our front shocks had suddenly gone bad. So now we have another $ 1200 problem on our hands that magically appeared AFTER taking our van to this AAMCO location. We exchanged words with Bill and got nothing but excuses and blame on us for not bringing the vehicle back sooner, and the large amount of miles… etc. According to Bill, there is no possible way that it was their fault. So now that our shocks are bad, we couldn’t get the alignment completed. As a result our van has been pulling right for weeks and our front tires are completely bald.
The day the excuses started we asked Bill for the phone number of the owner so we could get this issue worked out. Bill absolutely REFUSED to give us his number but he told us that the owner would call us back. Well… that never happened. Not only that, we have called and spoken to Bill on numerous occasions and get the same story. The owner is out of town, he’s busy, he will call you back. The most recent time we spoke to Bill he said that the owner was not going to call us back because he told Bill to «handle» it. Well Bill’s idea of handling the situation is to not call us, refuse to provide a number to complain to, and do absolutely nothing to help us. The customer service at this AAMCO is absolutely horrible and I will do everything I can to ensure they don’t receive business from anybody I know.
We got screwed by this AAMCO location and I hope you read this review and decide to take your vehicle elsewhere.

Had an appointment at 8am on a Saturday. First time to a AAMCO. No one showed up. 3 mechanics sitting around and can’t get it. Waited 30 minutes and left. Called an hour later and nothing. Finally I call and get the manager. Instead of trying to get me in and take care of me. It was nothing about excuses. They are right we are wrong. Blah blah blah. Seems they close at noon and was in hurry. So its open late and close early. If you don’t like it go someplace else. Sounds more like it was a sign to keep me from going in. I will pass on AAMCO in the future.

Honest employees did a great job. I was weary of going to an AAMCO. I have been to other AAMCOs and have had unbelievably bad experiences. Yet, this AAMCO had a coupon on their website for a transmission fluid flush for $ 60 bucks, nearly half off! The staff was very courteous and prompt. I called in the evening and they got me an appointment the next morning on a SAT! They were respectful, quick, and didn’t feed me any bull about something wrong with my vehicle like every other shady mechanic in AZ. They did exactly what I paid AAMCO to do and they did it well. After the flush my transmission is running brand new and was an amazing deal to help further the lifetime of my transmission. These guys are honest and will make me a repeat customer for my future transmission needs! Thanks guys!
