DG Sullivan’s

AMAZING beer menu and beer flights! Sliced and fried mushrooms are awesome. Sweet potato fries with honey mustard!!! Great lunch place!

DG Sullivan’s is a great find in Gibson City! Great selection of beers too! I’d recommend the mushrooms to start — the breading is delicious, crunchy and light! You really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu but if they have a special always get that! Guaranteed to be extra delicious!

Went for the first time tonight. The staff was very friendly as soon as we walked in. Was seated right away at 7 on a Friday night. The food was great for a little joint in the middle of nowhere. Ordered the BBQ salmon and it was phenomenal. Ordered the honey lime in house dressing for the side salad and I would highly reccomend it! Tried the carrot cake and red velvet cake, both were fantastic!

Small town. Casual place. Delicious food! We were passing through town on the road & saw the reviews from fellow Unilocalers were good, so we gave this place a try. So glad we did! Longer in-​depth review follows. I did say we’re on the road, right? I got nothin’ but time…
I called before we got there just to check if we could show up in shorts & tshirts. The funny woman on the phone laughed kindly and said, «Sure! You could come in your pajamas. Come on in!» Turned out she was our server.
As we walked in, it looked very much like a bar, but they offered to sit us on «the other side,» which turned out to be a dining room. Very casual — paper napkins, keep-​your-​fork-​for-​salad-​and-​dinner, plain tables, etc. Perfect «come as you are» place.
Being gluten-​free and now doing an ultra-​low-​carb diet, I’m a pain in the neck to feed. The server, Shannon, I think, told me they have a GF pizza. But there’s the carb thing I have now, so I ordered their ribeye steak. Oh my goodness. Succulent. Juicy. Tender. Only a tiny bit of fat to keep things delicious. I got bleu cheese melted on top — the bleu cheese sauce otherwise served with it had gluten. They were very accommodating and kind with my changes.
Hubby & the girls split the appetizer soft pretzels. They raved about them. The pretzels were much smaller than a typical soft pretzel — perfect for before dinner snacking & you get 6 of them, plenty to share. They got the mustard dipping sauce just a little spicy and grainy like a country Dijon-​style.
We also ordered the kids’ spaghetti and meatball — that meatball was homemade somewhere because I could see the chopped onions in it. My little one (8 years old) devoured it.
My 11 year old daughter ordered the pork chop. It came bone-​in and she really enjoyed it and the crunchy yummy sweet potato fries that came with it.
Hubby got a burger that came on a pretzel bun and a side of their homemade thickish potato chips. The chips could have used some seasoning — salt or the mixture of lemon juice and oregano I so love that my favorite golf place used to serve before they went crazy & took everything good & house-​made off the menu in favor of premade processed crap. But I digress. Hubs loved the burger.
My meal came with a salad and I ordered their house dressing — honey lime, made in house using real honey and lime and mustard. Very tasty! One slight downside — they made an attempt to add some mixed field greens to the nicely portioned before dinner salad, but it was about 90% iceberg lettuce. There were some grape tomatoes, cucumbers, a slice of red onion & croutons that I had to remove myself because maybe the very nice & accommodating server forgot to remove for me because of my dozen or more Spanish Inquisition-​style questions.
I also ordered the mixed veggies on the side, even though I was secretly wishing I could order the sweet potato fries, stupid carb diet. The veggies were just slightly beyond the crisp-​tender that I love, but nowhere near overcooked. Broccoli, yellow carrot slices, green beans, and a little red pepper were included and they were good.
The whole staff was friendly & chatted with us. My hubby thought I should go down a star because the bathrooms were a little small (ladies, use the handicap stall — trust me), but they did have a full changing table, which I thought was family friendly. He also thought the «bar» atmosphere was more 4-​star worthy. But I just couldn’t go down a whole star for a small-​town place with FABULOUS food & FRIENDLY staff.
Give it a try. This Unilocaler thinks you’ll be glad you did, just like we were!

The food is pretty good and the restaurant itself is nice — really like the atmosphere there. I wish their sweet potato fries were more crispy but the sauce that comes w/​the Sullivan is outstanding (the steak itself would be just okay without the sauce IMO).

Finally got a chance to headout to DGs. My bro is a teacher in nearby Paxton, but we’d heard about this place and had been wanting to try it for a while.
I came here for one reason and one reason only… the deep dish pizza! Being South of i-​80, this is a very proposition. However I was pleasantly surprised by DGs.
I thought the sauce and crust were the highlights of the deep dish. THe cheese was nothing special. This was defnitely knife and fork quality za.
We also order a teeny, tiny ultra thin pub crust pizza. My bro and I were confused because we thought DGs featured ultra thin, pub crust, and hand tossed in addition to their DD. However, their ultra thin is their pubcrust, and to be honest, it was slightly above a frozen tombstone.
We also ordered 2 separate desserts. THe 2 we wanted (24k carrot cakeand apply pie pizza) were not available, so we went with lava cake and ice cream and a slice of red velvet. THe former was average, but the red velvet was very good. The red velvet was made in house… not sure about the lava cake and IC.
I was pleased with DGs. They lived up to my expectations. When I go back, I will order the hand tossed or a different appetizer. The Deep Dish is very good, though.
It’s a nice little restaurant in a little town. Looking forward to my next visit. This is one of the very few places outside the greater chicagoland area that I feel safe ordering pizza.

After having bookmarked this «local joint» for several months, I finally got over to GCMS to try D.G. Sullivan’s! They get their meats from Central Lean, my favorite shop in Paxton.
As a man who loves eating his pizza with a knife and fork (MONICALS SUCKS) and Papa Del’s being too far, I was excited to try this Central Illinois deep dish. I mean I had high hopes, but I wasn’t expecting a home run… just a ground rule double. I would say I ended up with a triple. Pardon the baseball pun, but let’s play ball and move onto the food.
Deep dish cheese was a given, but we also tried the pub crust cheese, which was not much better than a standard thin pizza. If (when) I am back, I will order chili or some pretzel bites.
I will dive into the deep dish… pun intended. I was expecting a dry crust but was very surprised with the chewiness! I also really liked how there were little chunks of tomato in the sauce. The cheese was just basic mozzarella but solid nonetheless. I was glad the pizza came out in a quick twenty one minutes. Our waitress gave us a pitcher of water plus extra napkins.
The pizza was solid. Nothing like Gianorio’s which is my Mecca of pizza. I was really excited for dessert… the Carrot Cake was not available… NOOOOO! I settled on the Red Velvet Cake and my brother went with the Molten Lava Cake with some ice cream. I got a brief brain freeze… that sucked, but not as much.
I know next time I am in the mood for a ‘za, I will pick up or eat in at D.G. Sullivan’s. Thank goodness I don’t have to drive all the way to Champaign or suffer with the crap that is Pizza Hut or Monical’s. I wish they delivered, but I don’t mind the fifteen minute drive for non crappy pizza!

First time here and from out of town… all food was hot and prompt! Out waitress, Nikki, was very sweet and a cutie! Our table had the Toasted Ravioli, Pretzels and mustard, Deep dish Pizza, Fish & Chips, Philly Sandwich and a flight of 4 of the 9 Daily Drafts… my FAV was the Nitro Milk Stout! We will be back!

Lot of small town charm. I ordered the cheeseburger and my buddy had the Italian beef sandwich. One of best tasting burgers I have had. A good side of fries topped off this meal for me. I am ready to go back!

Italian beef wasn’t that good, beef was though & dried out. Deep fried mushrooms were really good though. My girlfriend enjoyed the fish tacos. We also waited close to 45 minutes for out main dishes, quite a long time to wait. The décor was beautiful and had excellent service.

Gibson City small town out in the middle of a corn feild, who think great place to go for dinner? But it is, they are lucky to have a number of good spots. DG Sullivan’s is one of them. They have the best draft beer selection around. All kinds of microbrews on tap. So the beer is great and the food is not bad either. Fish & Chips one of my most ordered, but the Italian beef pretty good to. Pizza also very good, made in house great crust flavorful sauce. Had to drop a star because of the waitress we had last night ⁸⁄₁₉ really bad, do not remember seeing her before. Hope she was just new or having a bad day. A couple more times in with without a repeat performance and I might give the star back.
Have gone back three times now have not seen bad waitress and have had nothing but great service so I’m happily giving the star back. Be there friend on facebook and they will post the specials on your wall.

I haven’t yet had dinner at DG’s, but their lunches are really good. I’ve tried just about everything on their lunch menu. The pizza is excellent with flavorful toppings and good sauce and crust. One unusual topping is the Jamaican jerk chicken with jalapeño-​weird but delicious! I’m also partial to their club sandwich and their salads. Their fries are a little on the soggy side… I’d love it if they offered hash browns on the side as an option. Service is fast and friendly. I like supporting local people and local businesses, and as a family-​owned business, DG’s is a great change of pace from chain restaurants.

DG’s has some of the best pizza I’ve ever had. The atmosphere is nice. The staff and owners are friendly and wonderful.

Great place for a small-​town. Usually when you’re an hour from the nearest shopping mall, the best you’re going to get is standard diner fare. Not that there’s anything inherently wrong with standard diner fare. Some days, nothing can beat salty bacon and eggs or a patty melt or some apple pie.
But sometimes you may want things like Chicago-​Style Deep Dish and quality microbrews you can’t buy at whatever grocery store has set up shop nearby. Normally, when you’re in a small town and you get a mood like that, you’re stuck. But in GC, you have DG Sullivan’s.
I’m not going to lie and tell you the pizza is exactly like eating at the original Uno’s or a quality Giordanos branch. It’s not, but it’s a darned good and delicious attempt, and certainly a different level of experience than the Pizza Hut down the road. The sandwiches are good as well and I’m a big fan of good sweet potato fries, which they have.
The place is also locally-​owned by and if I understand things correctly the whole family helps out with the place. Given the menu choices, it’s clear they put a lot of work and care into the place. Would recommend for locals or anyone looking for a place while traveling by on the highways or in town for something.

Gibson City is a small town (about 3500 people) which is lucky to have some really good restaurants. One of the newest ones is DG Sullivan’s. When my dad suggested it, the only thing he mentioned was that I went to high school with the owners (which is true). The minute we walked in, we knew this wasn’t your typical small town restaurant. As someone who writes a beer blog, the first thing I check out in a new place are the beer taps. Imagine my surprise to see Rogue Dead Guy right off the bat. Right next to it was Two Brothers Domaine DuPage, Two Brothers Bitter End, North Coast Old Rasputin and even Capitol Brown Ale among others. Nice!
The food is really good too. Chicago style deep dish pizza, Italian beef, pork tenderloins and more. The breaded mushrooms are our favorite appetizer — hand breaded sliced mushrooms served with a ranch dipping sauce. The grilled pork chop is my dad’s favorite when he’s not getting the fish and chips. If you are a carnivore, check out the rib eye or the hamburgers. All of their beef comes from Central Lean Meats, a local farming venture that raises cattle and uses no steroids plus only all natural feedstuffs. They have plans for some beer tastings and possibly beer dinners in the future.
If you live near Gibson City, it’s worth the drive to DG Sullivan’s.
