Sugarloaf Congregation Unitarian Universalist

We attended several other area churches before choosing Sugarloaf finding them to be more welcoming and friendly. The wide topic of sermons range from theology and philosophy to relevant history; I find them completely fascinating and broadening to my world view.
Being raised Protestant and reciting a list of what was supposed to believe every Sunday always bothered me, even as a child. It’s liberating to be with others that refuse to believe that any one religion has a monopoly on the truth.

I came here to try our another location of the Unitarian Universalist service. I really liked several elements of the service, such as the friendliness of the congregation. However, there were a couple of ‘down’ points, in my experience. First of all, the emphasis on homosexual-​friendliness. I have a gay family member, and I have nothing wrong with it per se. What I do find strange is them hanging a huge rainbow flag – they don’t have any other, though. Why not a flag for straights? Or Asian people? Or Jews? It just seems a bit weird to me. Gay is not a religion, as far as I know. Second, one man involved in the children’s ministry just gave off creepy pedo-​vibes, in my opinion. Not to mention, he looked almost exactly like Anton LaVey, the founder of the Church of Satan!
