History

Established in 1981.

Originally founded by Mike Hohnstein as «Hipster’s Garage,» the company produced innovative Drag Racing transmissions & components such as Hipster’s Brake. In 1989 the business moved to the current location in Germantown, and became Automatic Transmission Design.

Since then Automatic Transmission Design has expanded their expertise and product offerings into multiple motorsports disciplines, as well as complete vehicle service.

Manager

Charlie is the Co-​Owner and General Manager of Automatic Transmission Design. Charlie has been an ASE Certified Master Technician since 1980. Charlie has been with ATD since 1990.
