Georgetown TV and Audio

It is wonderful in this day and age to find someone who is capable of working on vintage audio stereo equipment. My Pioneer receiver of 39 years when completely dead on me. I was beside myself, do I purchase a new cheap plastic receiver, one with no phono input or do I go on Ebay and purchase a used vintage receiver… NEITHER choice would have been the correct choice, instead I scoured the internet until I found Georgetown TV & Audio, and I am certainly glad I did! I immediately called their number to inquire (just to make sure) if they worked on quality audio equipment, the nice lady on the phone said sure do… I was elated, so on a Saturday morning I made the drive from Killeen to Georgetown. I was greeted by this same lady (daughter of the owner) who was very nice, as was a younger Gentleman
(perhaps the husband or brother). He immediately took my receiver for repair while she did the paperwork. Both were very professional and very pleasant to speak with. I had them go through the entire unit and replace all the lights at the same time. I took about a month, so I was going thru withdrawals not able to listen to my music, but they finally called me and I ran
(well drove) all the way back to retrieve my jewel. Now I can purchase the same receiver on Ebay for anywhere from $ 99 -$ 300, some likely need a lot of repair, while others claimed to be in top working order. fact is you just never know what your buying when you buy sight on seen, used equipment. My repair cost $ 200, I know what I have, and I think that it will be in service another 40+ years… Now just before I retrieved my receiver, I decided to have my Teac reel to reel checked out since it didn’t seem to be working as well as I knew it should. So I brought the Reel in for service when I retrieved the receiver. For a very reasonable $ 100.00 they went through the reel making sure it worked properly and cleaned and oiled it. Truth be told I had it (the reel) in the shop about 4 years ago, when I lived in San Antonio, I took it to the Sound Idea, who charge me over $ 250 for the same service, and I never felt is was working as it should even after that service. When I picked up the receiver I met the owner (who’s name escapes me) and discovered it was he that had worked on my receiver, and would also would work on the Reel. At the same time I had them look at a small TV/​VCR combo because the VCR wouldn’t work, they found a small nail inside, apparently left there by my grandson of 3 years old, as he also liked to put little matchbox cars in the slot, (he said it was his garage). They didn’t charge me a cent to look at the TV/​VCR. To be sure, I am listening to my music and taping some new records as I write this review. I am very happy with the services that this business provided, I was happy that some folks still provide great customer service with a smile at reasonable cost. It was also nice to meet a family of at least 3 generations the father, daughter, and grandson all of who really seem to like what they do. So in closing this review, I want to be sure just in case you don’t get my message… I highly recommend this business for repair of any and all vintage stereo and audio equipment, and hopefully I will never need to repair another item but if I do, I know where I am going… Thank you for a wonderful experience,

Purchased a TV and sound system from Georgetown TV last July after returning a similar system to the big box store for multiple installation failures. Twice in the past two weeks (eight months later) we have lost picture and they have been out within hours. Found out the second time they were both caused by an over complicated sound system remote and fumbling fingers. No Charge!
Great service, great personalities (thanks Mike), totally positive purchase and service experience.

Stopped by their facility before making our final purchase decision on a new tv. Met Thomas and found the experience friendly and professional. They came to our home to see where we wanted our tv mounted and outlets moved so they would be hidden. We are so happy with our new 75 inch Sony. Everyone is blown away by the quality of the picture. Hats off to their willingness to work with us and a professional installation. Loved being able to buy local.

Thomas gave us a good deal on a set of speakers and install of our entire media room. He is happy to re-​use customer’s components if it is not necessary to replace. The install crew were very knowledgeable and polite. They competed the job 1 hour earlier than estimated which saved me a little money. In the past I used the big box stores but I would recommend Georgetown TV & Audio for their customer service and quality.

If you need a new TV, especially a Sony, these are the people you need to go and see!!! They are a family run, family owned business, and there isn’t anything they can’t fix, or any question they can’t answer! We have just purchased our 4^th Sony from them and we are more even more happy with this one than the other 3 we have purchased in the past. They know everything there is to know about television technology, and they keep up with the times! We bought our TV on Saturday around 9:30 and they were at my house by 12:30 for installation. Once you buy a TV from them, you will forget about looking at sales in the newspaper, or Sam’s or Costco, because the customer service you receive from these family members is so unsurpassed, you won’t even want to go anywhere else. The place is spotless and so comfortable, when you walk in. You are treated like family, right off the bat! We will never go anywhere for a new TV again, or a repair as well. Their honesty and efficiency is unsurpassed!

Some of the best customer service I have experienced in any industry. Thomas has made a habit of exceeding expectations. He always performs the job professionally, correctly, and with excellent customer communication. He also always seems to find and fix problems that I forget to even tell him about. I live about 30 miles away from their shop and I wouldn’t think of using anyone else.

I know it shouldn’t be such a strange thing these days to have such honesty and amazing customer service but… I was blown away by this place… My plasma tv wouldn’t power on and over the phone one of the techs told me what most likely the issue was but I went to the store anyway since my tv was already loaded… And the man on the phone was correct. He showed me where this crazy button was located and… All is well! And they DIDNT CHARGE ME A DIME!!! They could’ve «gotten» me for hundreds but instead they take care of customers and care about people! I will send everyone I know here and talk about this place as much as possible!!! These types of family places are hard to find these days… Thank you so much!!!

We built a house 4 years ago and the sound system never worked right. We called Georgetown TV to come help resolve many issues we have been having and Thomas was tremendously helpful. From the minute his dad answers the phone to the courteousness of each encounter we had with the folks there our experience was nothing but superior. Not only did they fix our problems, but we finally got the quality we wanted in our system. They operate with integrity and sincere desire to serve your properly, and cost is fair. I would not hesitate to call them for any of our future needs and highly recommend them for any small or large jobs. This type of service is a lost art!!!

We had a 4-​year-​old 46″ Vizio that started having problems with its picture. I called Georgetown TV & Audio on a Friday afternoon, and they set up a service call for Monday between 12p and 2p. Thomas showed up and quickly determined that it was not serviceable (Vizio’s have an average life span of 3 years, I was told). I asked about their prices on a 55″. He then told me that they would match the price of any TV I find in a «big box» store, as long as they had it in stock. The following Saturday morning, I called GTV&A at 9:30am, and at 11:00am, we had a brand new 55″ Sony in our living room and the Vizio was on its way out the door to be recycled. The cost was $ 50 less than advertised at that «big box» store.
Their level of service and professionalism is top of the line. Thomas and his father, Detleff are both friendly, trust-​worthy and professional. They have been active in the Georgetown business community for the past 8 years, after moving their business here from Marble Falls. I could not be more pleased with my purchase, and highly recommend them.

I called Georgetown TV & Audio based on the rave reviews I’d found and spoke to the owner about a problem with my 65-​inch projection Toshiba. He was very helpful and quickly diagnosed the problem as likely some old/​bad capacitors on my 9-​year-​old set. Unfortunately, the big monster would probably have to be picked up and brought to their shop. Darn. The owner’s son came at the appointed/​promised time and quickly determined that he could replace the capacitors right there and then. Joy! He did that and then tuned the set to factory specs and VOILA, we had our TV back looking better than new. And the price was less than quoted over the phone since it didn’t have to be transported. It’s been six months and the picture is still outstanding. I’ve got a bit of a volume control issue that I’ll be calling them about today. I wouldn’t use anyone else.
Update: I just spoke with owner Detleff Knoll again and he is without a doubt among the nicest folks you’d ever want to do business with. He had me run through some diagnostics myself and determined the volume issue is not with my set but with my provider (U-​verse). Thanks again, Mr. Knoll.

One fail after another! I called last week to get a replacement lamp for my LCD projection TV. They said they had it, quoted a price and told me to bring it in. They did not imply a short supply. I brought the lamp module in to have them replace the lamp and I was told, «Oh, there were two people that called and the other person already came in». FAIL! I am then told that they will have it in on Monday and they suggest I leave my lamp module with them and they’ll replace it when it comes in Monday and give me a call. Monday comes and goes, no call… FAIL! Tuesday… still no call… Wednesday, I call for a status and am told the bulb should be in today??? 5 days ago I was told it would be in on Monday! They finally call to let me know that it is done and I ask my wife to pick it up since I won’t be able to get there in time to pick it up and I let her know how much it should cost per the quote I had received 5 days ago (surely not enough time for currency exchange rates, commodity prices, or other variables to change that significantly). When my wife picked up the lamp she was charged 33% more (quoted $ 149.99 charged $ 199.99)!!! FAIL!!! I called and spoke to them and got a run around about… I’m sorry I misquoted. MISQUOTED!!! After going back and forth with them about the fact they quoted $ 149.99 all they did was reduce the cost by half the difference — they knew they were wrong, but still wouldn’t make it right! You be the judge, what is a quote, timeframe, or anything else out of these guys mouths worth?
In case you’re not a price sensitive person but like to have something done in a timely manner, I previously had a 2 months delay while waiting for repairs.
Ok…so I should have learned my lesson previously. I had to have my TV repaired more extensively previously by Georgetown Terrible and Inaccurate Quotes… I mean Georgetown TV and Audio. When I did my TV was in their shop for at least 2 months! Sure I got my TV back eventually, but I was stuck with them as the service person since my TV was there, taken apart and waiting for parts.
I’d heard great things about Georgetown TV & Audio so I gave them a chance, twice. Looks like I need to look for a better choice next time.

No one really wants to have to call service people of any kind — electrician, plumber, HVAC guy or tv repairman. I especially don’t because I’m terrible at describing the actual problem. My husband is often on the AVS Forum and he read over and over that Georgetown TV & Audio was highly recommended and Sony certified so he called them up when our tv needed the convergence circuits replaced.
They told us they’d arrive on Monday between noon and 2. I was immediately impressed with a 2 hour time frame instead of a 6 or 8 hour one. Around 1pm they called and said they’d be there in 20 minutes. 20 minutes later they arrive and begin working on the unit. After replacing the convergence circuits they replaced some fuses and calibrated the set. Because the fuses needed to be replaced the cost was $ 30 more than the estimate, but the estimate also didn’t include tax so it wasn’t very far off.
We were really pleased with their service and since I hope to never see them again I will highly recommend them for anyone in need of TV repair.
