Not sure what laura k’s issues were but I’m betting her kids need a different approach to traditional learning hence her praising the Charter school in GV. We pulled our son out of the charter school after the k –2 teacher had no clue. Kids were walking down the gravel road from the high school to get to the oark with onky one teacher. Kids were wondering off and not in line. 2nd graders were bullying the youngs kids and there was very little control in the class during the limited lessons. 2 months into the school year we still didnt see any home work nor coukd our son tell us what he learned that day. He oulled hom out and enrolled him in Georgetown. OMG. What a difference. Mrs. Smith and Allen are great teachers. Even with 28 kids they controlled the class, evaluated the students, and gave us expectations. I want my son to learn math… English. … science. … not sing camp fire songs and grow up to be a hippy.

We completed 2 years, K-1 at GS. We encountered multiple, serious unaddressed problems with staff and administration including child health & safety issues that due to no satisfactory resolution have led us to find schooling elsewhere– which isn’t difficult to do since there is American River charter school in Garden Valley and another public school in Cool. The good points? Some great friends have their kids there and they do the best they can with what they are working with. There are some very caring and lovely people working there as staff & teachers. They have a beautiful greenhouse and garden on site that the kids got to work in a couple times the years we were there. It’s a gorgeous location in a beautiful forest setting next to a unique nature preserve(that sad enough isn’t utilized by the school except to run the upper grade PE class through). Both school years we were there not once did we have any event in the nature center except for the end of the year graduation for Kindergarten in the outdoor amphitheater. A real oversight and loss for the students there. In the year since changing to our new school, we’ve had 3 events in the nature center including a camp out, mine shaft exploration, tree and plant identification walks, docents on insect life in the waterways and picnics. We are sorry Georgetown school was unable to be responsive to our educational needs. We gave it a go. But it became a no-go. The bottom line? My child wasn’t happy there so was unable to benefit from the few good things the place does have going for it. It was a real loss to part our friends and families we love there.
