Genesis Flight Academy

Amazing place to learn flying! I had flown with several instructors here and they were all knowledgeable and helpful! I also took the ground school, which I highly recommend. It was packed with useful knowledge. All the staff is very friendly. The place is very clean. Their planes are in good condition and their prices are the least expensive in the Austin area.

I’m like many pilots in their mid 50’s who return to aviation after «the kids are out of the house». I first got my license in 1978 in South Africa and after about 200 hours of flying at all kinds of clubs in south Africa, I finally stopped flying when I started a family, businesses and so on. Fast forward to 2015 and I was ready to get back into it — now living in Round Rock and travelling between Dallas and Houston on a regular basis.
I checked out some options in the area, including a visit to Genesis Flight Academy in Georgetown. I met Lacy Keeling at reception and she introduced me to her husband Kyle. They own the place. Kyle gave me a tour of their facility and everything about it showed that they were committed professionals in doing what they are doing.
A lot has been written about flying with the right instructor. Genesis has many of them and I decided to book with different instructors. Jonathan Boes ended up doing the lion’s share of my time and I really «clicked» and got along very well with him. His relaxed attitude made me relax and keep my attention on flying (rather than «how am I doing?») He is clearly very committed to teaching others to fly and not just there to build hours.
If you are looking at getting your license or getting back into flying like I did — I highly, highly recommend Genesis Flight Academy.

My husband trains and rents with Genesis and has had a great experience. His instructor Chris Mauser is top notch and he highly recommends him. His teaching style is a great combination of rigor and fun. It’s important to find the right instructor because you’ll be spend hours together in a plane.

Wan’t sure what to expect but it turned out GREAT! Instructor Boes was friendly, knowledgeable and overall awesome! When I’m ready to get my lic, I’m definitely returning!!! Thanks guys!

If you are looking for quality flight training I would highly recommend the staff at Genesis Flight Academy. They are all very well trained pilots and you can learn a lot from them. I personally took flight lessons with Kyle, the owner, and he is fun, patient, and an amazing resource. If it is your dream to become a pilot — look no further than Genesis Flight Academy.
In addition to the instructors, they keep their planes in immaculate mechanical condition — which is a really good thing — because you can’t just «pull over» while flying.
In short: great instructors, great planes, great experience!

I’m not one to usually write reviews but when I happened upon the Genesis Flight Academy Unilocal page, I was incensed to see that it has received a bad review score from one angry customer (over a misunderstanding no less). So here we go:
I’ve trained at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach; I’ve trained at privately owned flight schools across the nation; and I’ve trained at Genesis Flight Academy. After completing my CFI with Kyle and the Genesis Flight team, I’m now teaching in California, where I have seen a whole slew of other flight operations in the process of settling down and picking a flight school to teach at. While I had a lot of choices when I was flight training and could have conceivably trained anywhere I wanted, I chose Genesis for a reason, and a very good one:
Genesis Flight Academy is hands down the best school I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing.
Let me qualify that statement further. Safety is the most important aspect of aviation. Often times I have found that this is the first thing to get overlooked by flight school owners looking to make a quick buck. This is not so with Kyle (the owner of the business). Kyle has an experienced team of mechanics that work in-​house with him, allowing him to ensure that maintenance is completed right the first time, every time. His planes not be as new and shiny as some of the airplanes I’ve flown, but they’re every bit as safe. I’m extremely particular about safety, and when I owned an airplane on the field, his team was the only one I would let touch it. Beyond safety as it relates to the mechanical systems of the airplane, there is the pilot him or herself. Most aircraft accidents are preventable, related to pilot error. I can comfortably say that the standard of training at Genesis is equal to or higher than that at any other school or college in the country, having been at what’s regarded to be the best aviation school in the US. Instructors actively combat complacency — perhaps the biggest killer of pilots– and, beyond that, adjust their teaching styles to suit whomever they’re teaching, which is a huge help. My father, who has traditionally been very fearful of airplanes and is easily sickened, started training at Genesis after hearing me rant and rave about how much I loved it. While his experience has been entirely positive as well, it has also been very different despite the fact that we had the same instructor. This is a testament to the flexibility and expertise of the teaching staff at Genesis. No matter where you’re coming from, they will ensure that you’re comfortable.
This brings me to my next point, which was perhaps my favorite aspect of training at Genesis: the sense of family and community that I and so many others have felt while there. This is an environment in which students are encouraged to stick around after their lesson just to hang out, and instructors joke around amongst themselves and students while maintaining an extremely professional attitude. The Genesis family was my home away from home; I spent many unnecessary hours just hanging out there because it was such a pleasure. It is a place where all are welcome.
I’m so glad I happened upon Genesis; I owe everything to its teaching staff for the skills I’ve developed as I transitioned from student to instructor. Thats why this review is so long winded
If you didn’t read this whole review and scrolled right down to the bottom like I usually do, heres a quick synopsis: Highest attention to safety, a veritable pleasure to train at; ‘nuf said.

My only experience with them is trying to reach their chief instructor in order to get some info on flight training at his school. However, weeks later, I still can’t get him to return a call.

I recently finished my Private Pilot training with Genesis. I have trained with other flight schools over the years, with several different instructors, with a variety of good and bad experiences. I can honestly say that my experience with Genesis, from start to finish, as been a positive one. My instructor was exceptional, the owners are pleasant, and the willingness on their part to go above and beyond is clear as day. If you are interested in learning to fly or just taking a local discovery flight, you won’t be disappointed.

My friend and I had a great discovery flight experience. Our pilot was affable and professional. I recommend them highly.
We actually had a scheduling mishap with them. But the owner went above and beyond the call to make it right.
We were scheduled to fly over Memorial Day weekend with Genesis. The school wasn’t open over the weekend, but the confirmed plan was to meet the instructor at the school. Our instructor texted me the day of our flight and cancelled for Saturday and changed our flight time to Sunday. On Sunday, we drove all the way up there and the instructor was a no show and wouldn’t return our calls or texts! This was disappointing of course, as we’d already been bumped once and now we were left hanging. Apparently the instructor had an unexpected personal issue come up that weekend that necessitated this lapse in professional courtesy.
Normally something like this would make somebody rate a business poorly. However the owner and the rest of the staff went out of their way to show that this scheduling mistake was unacceptable and not something they would expect a consumer to have to put with.
Mistakes happen and the owner used the mishap as an OPPORTUNITY to show how professional and quality they strive to be. Good show!
