Mountain Shadows Resort

My experience was not so pleasant I don’t not think they are priced that cheap a one bed cabin cost us $ 190 per night. Half of the light bulbs were not working, the fire place was impossible to start the spark button would shock me every time (not sure if it’s even safe to operate it). They have strange set of rules, you have to pick up your own garbage and drive it a mile down the road to dispose off at the main office otherwise they will charge you extra. Cabin was also dirty with spider webs over the bed.

I cannot imagine being in Gatlinburg and not staying in a cabin because this area of Tennessee is the perfect place to have cabin fever. I am appalled by the bad reviews here and I think it is so unfair because some people want a champagne cabin for the price of a beer. I think if we all have reasonable expectations then we would not be disappointed. Now that being said I do agree with some of the bad comments and I will talk about that in a minute.
The Good:
1. Mountain shadows Resort is within a 5 minute drive to where all the action is in the strip parkway and far away from all the noise. Mountains Shadow is a private community and that made me feel safe since entering. I have rented many cabins in other places and you can be in a beautiful cabin with a trailer or mobile home next to you or in a not very appealing neighborhood. Not this case.
2. Roads– I love the roads, paved, no steep roads that can literally provoke a heart arrhythmia or vertigo. There is phase 1 and phase 2 and the cabin I stayed was Honey Bear Hideaway which was in phase two.
3. The parking– Each cabin has its own parking space, ones better than others
4. Amenities– The Resort has a pool, a Pavilion, clubhouse, playground. I did not have time to go to any of these, but saw people at them so I cannot comment on those.
5. Views– Some cabins have views of the mountains and others do not but they all are surrounded by beautiful trees and a natural environment. The majority of cabins with views are more expensive than the ones without. The ones that accommodate 2 – 4 people of course are cheaper than the ones that accommodate 6.
6.The cabin I stayed — So clean since entering, smelled good, and loved that it was all wood. It was a 1200sft cabin/​2 story.
Before coming on the weekend of July, 2015 I had called several hotels of pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg and they were either booked or way over priced. I was able to cook all my meals which saved us money specially traveling with kids. Now if you travel with another couple you can just split costs.
The bad: Choosing the right cabin makes the difference between giving this resort 5 stars or 2. It is true, next to the pool there is a sharp right turn in a loop, and here sits several cabins maybe 7. They are all cramped one next to the other with not much privacy. This is all in phase 1.
I stayed in phase 2 and loved it, right across the playground and pavilion. I had no one looking at us, no cabins next to me, no cabins in front of me. And I guess there is some cabins scattered out with more privacy and some others like the ones at the pool which are all together. I agree with the other people I would have not liked to stay near the pool area neither, but the resort itself does not deserve a 1 – 2 star just because the cabin you got was not the best.
I did not book directly with the resort, I did it directly with the owner and it was best because he gave me all the info I needed without misleading at all.

Great location and price. Stayed in Maple Tree cabin 1604. Plenty of space. Beautiful views. Pet friendly. Clean and ready to go. Newly decorated. Flat screen TVs and nice kitchen appliances and cookware. Gave us Food City customer card which is needed to shop at the only grocery store in town. Washer and dryer in the unit was clutch. Bring hand soap and a sponge to wash dishes. Everything pretty much provided.
