Gateway Canyons Resort

Our stay at Gateway Canyons is almost over and i feel i would be remiss not to update my review.
Yes, communications with the resort were a bit rough before we arrived, but i think in the future it would be best just to call the front desk & have them arrange things.
Once we arrived the staff was sooooo fantastic! Laid back yet fun, attentive but not smothering. Just great!
The grounds are beautiful & the Casita was gorgeous. House cleaning was sweet & did a great job. The food at the Café & Restaurant was good. Try one of their cocktails!
The adventures were so much fun — David did an awesome job with skeet shooting, the adventure center staffed rocked it, especially Nick, and the front desk was so helpful — Tammy was wonderful & Renata was always checking the weather for us.
The Baja Truck experience my hubby absolutely loved! Jeff & Bunk really love what they do and it shows. And yup, the hubby already wants to return.

Wow. This place is great. It’s pricey, but if you are an automotive fan, I can’t think of a better place to spend the weekend, or week, or month if I could afford it! Drive a baja truck, rent an exotic automobile, tour the museum, charter the helicopter. Man, what a place. The reason I’m not giving it 5 stars is that the food was a little disappointing. I had the lobster with pasta. The lobster tail was a little bit small, but very tasty. The problem was the pasta. It was very starchy and sticky and I nearly cracked a tooth on something in it (pine nut maybe). So, the food is good, but overpriced for what I got. The room was fantastic. Very large, comfortable beds, sitting area with fireplace and private hot tub on the patio with a fantastic view. Stay here! You won’t be disappointed!

It says something about a place when you jump at the chance to go back a second time in 2 months, and look forward to the possibility of going again as soon as possible.
This is simply a place that needs to be experienced. I am a well-​seasoned traveler. I’ve traveled full time for large stretches of time, and this by far is the top of my resort stays. Nestled in the most spectacular scenery of any resort I’ve been to, Gateway Canyons takes your breath away no matter where you look. I kept remarking to the (super friendly) staff that it looked like I was in a movie or in a car commercial setting.
Pro’s:
The scenery — just out of this world.
The rooms — absolutely perfect. I’m a stickler for a nice room, and Gateway took care of every detail. The large hot tub on my back patio was my favorite (and it was serviced daily).
The food — all amazing. From casual to fancy, they do a great job.
The spa — Do yourself a favor and book a massage and a facial, and leave feeling completely renewed.
The peace — If you want to relax and find peace, look no further. I went on long walks, read outside on the rocking chairs overlooking the palisade, took a nap by the pool, it was completely relaxing and refreshing.
The adventure — I got to to go on a few adventure excursions and got to do archery! The UTV ride was AMAZING. Breathtaking views, and super exhilarating.
The staff — everyone is so kind, it more feels like you’ve met new friends. Everyone knew my name and greeted me with a very friendly smile, and always asked if I needed anything.
The drinks — had to mention the great drink menu, if you are into that sort of thing :) You won’t be disappointed. Grab a Wood Mule and sit poolside for a few hours.

If you are looking for an amazing, relaxing place to visit with the option of doing some major adventure seeking, this is the place for you.

gotta give it to john hendricks for finding such a remote and breathtaking site and establishing a resort out in the middle of nowhere! this is truly an amazing brainchild of the Discovery channel founder. astonishing resort with stunning canyon views. service was great from the start, from the airport pick up in grand junction to checkout the resort service was exceptional, 5 star service definitely on par with the Ritz Carlton and Four Seasons. according to our guide the resort hires college students from around the world so you will get to meet people from all around the globe!
the rooms were large and well kept, we enjoyed our suite and comfortable bed. Our balcony overlooked the canyons and came complete with a fire-​pit!
lots of activities to do on site, check out the automobile museum or the adventure center where you can sign up for activities like horse back riding, skeet shooting, fly fishing, hiking, or ATVing. there’s even have a spa on site for a little pampering.
we enjoyed skeet shooting and ATVing around the canyons, both came with a guide and both guides provided in depth training and knew a lot about the history of the canyons and the surrounding areas.
several restaurants on site serving up delicious food, the servers were friendly and easily accommodated our request for take out so we can enjoy the amazing 360 degree views.
great resort in the middle of nowhere, great place to truly unwind and connect with nature and still be in the comforts of a 5 star hotel!

Wow. What an amazing place. Their website shows spectacular views, but the resort and its locations blew my mind. Incredible. Caring staff and serene environment. We had a window view of the Palisade… I walked into our room and my jaw dropped. Literally. I stood open-​mouthed for a few seconds :) Can’t wait to return.

I’m just reviewing, the car museum. It is simply fantastic and world class by any standards. The lighting and presentations are dramatic. I snapped a few pics, enjoy! The «hands on «exhibitions are lame, but who cares? Car guys certainly don’t. Don’t expect to see classic Bugattis or Ferraris here, this museum is strictly dedicated to the evolution of the American automobile, from its earliest days through the muscle car era. These pictures really don’t do these cars justice, so make a day of it and take the drive through a beautiful, rarely visited valley to see them in person. This ride is hugely popular with motorcyclists (and at least one scooterist), so keep an eye out for them through the windshield of your future classic.

Gorgeous retreat in the canyon. The menu is first class, with western selections throughout. Our lunch was on one of the three outdoor areas next to the Parardise Grill. Duck tapas, with a crisp pinot grigio.
The site offers a spa, and a uniquely glamorous collector’s car exhibit. Can’t wait to return to stay at the hotel and to visit the auto museum.

This is a review for the little café in the general store (and more specifically, John). He provided us with the best service we could have asked for, he was extremely knowledgeable about the coffee and espresso he brewed and shared with us a bit of is experience. We really enjoyed talking to him. Our iced coffee was made with chilled espresso and skim milk, so good! Also, the sandwiches there were great (veggies and condiments come on the side so they’re perfect to take with you as they won’t get soggy). We went back the next day and tried the quesadillas, very delicious as well… And made exactly to order. As for the rest of the resort, we didn’t stay, but man oh man did it look like an oasis.

This review is for the restaurant. Ate here this weekend and it was quite enjoyable. Had the veggie burger and it and the fries were really good. I appreciated the phonetic translations for some of the food items! Ex: Quesadilla (kay-​sa-​DEE-​yah) I couldn’t tell if it was supposed to be as funny as it was.
Other then that it looks like a funny place to «get away from it all» and as soon as it is fully up and running there will prob be a lot of fun outdoorsy things to do.
