South Bay Yellow Cab

Do not use! Here’s my story… unfortunately, I didn’t read the Unilocal reviews before I called them… my mistake! Called this morning at 10:00 a.m. for a taxi. I was told by the dispatcher that a taxi would be at my home in 10 minutes. After 25 minutes I called back only to be told that no driver responded to the request. I asked why they didn’t call me back to let me know that – no answer. Was told that someone would be out in 10 mins. I told dispatcher to call me if that’s not going to happen because I would need to find alternative transportation (had a flight to catch at LAX). Waited until 10:55 – no call and no taxi. Decided I had to drive my own car and park at the airport otherwise I would miss my flight. Probably should have just paid for an Über because now the parking is going to cost me big time!

Good service, drivers have always been on time when I booked a ride to LAX. However, they recently switched to an automated phone system, and now it doesn’t recognize my key presses when I call from my cell to book a next-​day pick-​up. I guess I have to use another cab company now…

This review is based on two experiences about a month apart.
I’ll start with this — Usually I prefer convenience over price and if I need a last minute ride, I Über. But I once got über plus to the airport El Segundo to the airport and costed me nearly $ 50. What a rip.
So when it was time to go to the airport from Redondo for 4 people and lots of luggage, I did some price shopping. South Bay yellow cab seemed to have decent reviews and I scheduled a minivan pickup two days ahead of schedule and had no issue. The minivan arrived on time, the driver was a nice guy and the price quoted was on point.
First experience — 5 stars
Now let’s talk about trip 2. Again, to/​from the same place. 2 people, one bag so no special request this time. Just a pick up. I scheduled my pick up a day ahead of time, then called and asked for a time change, ten minutes earlier than originally stated 935a, not 945a. The next morning I went outside at the new time, no cab. Waited 5 minutes and called. Was told they’ll call it in. 10 minutes later (950a) I ordered an Über Plus SUV because it was the closest — 4 minutes away. It arrived before the cab. I call this cab company back and cancel the car. They had no explanation or apologies.
Second experience — 0 stars
I’m back to Über. At least I know what I’m getting, even if it costs more.

I tried to reserve a taxi on their web site, but there was no place to specify the number of passengers. So I called to reserve one for five people, plus lots of luggage. Theytold me that you had a van to hold us all, and committed to picking us up.
At the requested time, a driver came in a Prius! There is no way we could all fit into that, much less with our luggage. He finally was able to contact a second driver, so we ended up paying for TWO taxis to reach our destination.
Needless to say, I won’t be using this company again.

Taxi 343 driver on 4^th of July in hermosa beach, tried to charge me $ 20 to go 3miles. My taxi fee there from my house was 11.00. After I told him to just run the meter. He said «stupid bitch, get out of my taxi» I asked the driver for his, but he refused I been trying to call corporate office and I get nowhere with this company before you decide to ride with them make sure you get the information of the taxi driver before getting in I’m sticking to UBER.

I am a loyal customer to South Bay Yellow Cab. Most of the time I get the same two guys who are very nice and have no problem helping me out with some bags. No, it is not required. But I DO appreciate good service, and will TIP for good service. If it is POOR, no tip. A tip is not a requirement if the service is crappy. I am paying you, you aren’t paying me. Lets just get that straight.
So let me get onto my review… TERRIBLE, CRUEL taxi service. The taxi driver asked me my name five times before letting me into the vehicle, as if he could not believe I was the one who called for a taxi. Struggling to bring two carts of groceries into to the car, I made it to the trunk. He did not assist me at all, instead he gave me the death stare the whole time. Could you make me any more uncomfortable? I still don’t understand why he asked me for my name a million times. I am incredibly sorry that south bay yellow cab hires people who lack manners and social skills.
Although I wasn’t expecting him to help me carry my groceries onto my porch, he deliberately threw them onto the street where they could have been RAN OVER. Did not even have the patience to at least put them on the sidewalk. They also contained glass, so if it would have broken, I don’t know what I would have done. He rushed into his vehicle, slamming his door, to drive away. I had asked him not to throw them onto the ground (my back was hurting and I couldn’t bend down to pick them up), but he ignored me and did it anyway. I tried to be as polite as possible. I can understand being in a hurry. but all he had to do was spare me a few minutes of going back and forth from the trunk to get my items. I stopped him and asked for his name. His response, «Why do you need my name? You cheap people! You are wasting my time!» He drove away really fast. I didn’t know what to say back. what do you say when you are on the verge of crying because a jerk is yelling at you? When he addressed me by ‘people’, I am pretty sure he was referring to my race. Not only was I discriminated against, but he shouted at me as if he was doing ME a favor. I am part of the REASON he gets to have some money in his pocket! He should be GRATEFUL for people like me that need a taxi so he can stuff some cash in his undeserving wallet. He is lucky it was even CASH since based on these reviews, most drivers do not like credit or any other form of payment…
So, yeah, why would I tip this guy? I paid the amount I was required to… and that is when his attitude got even worse. I am no where near «cheap». but if you are going to treat me like I am a piece of sh*t, don’t be surprised when you don’t get rewarded with a tip. He discredited me as a customer and disrespected me. Unless you want to be treated like some second class citizen, do not use this taxi service. Seriously. You are wasting your money by paying these scumbag «taxi drivers». You should be compensated if you have had to endure these people’s inconsideration and stupidity.
Struggling not to get upset (it was way too late at this point), I made a complaint. I really hope they set this guy straight, but considering most of these reviews suck, looks like the whole company is screwed as a whole. I know this seems like such a colorful rant, but if this company has more than a dozen bad reviews, you know something is wrong. I don’t usually let people like this get to me but it really struck a nerve since I have never had problems with taxi’s. (they are my main source of getting back from the grocery store, so I have to use them quite frequently :/)

The owner/​management of this company need help.
Must hire complete MORONS for drivers. They won’t go where or how you tell them to go. You’re paying them. Right? They must of missed that, somehow.

Will never again be using this service. Driver was using his cell phone while driving and was blocking my view of the meter so I wouldn’t see the price. Like if I wasn’t going to pay him! Will not be using again!

Piss poor ass service. This cab company made me hate everything yellow. Hate is a strong word but I hate this bitch ass, punk butt fuck company. I wish Bin Lauded was alive just to personally bitch slap the person responsible for such a bitch made red headed step child!!! Horrible fuck this get Über! and that ducking star is only because I can’t post my review without some type of rating.!this bitch gets a ducking –1.000.000.090 stupid ass dick in the but fucks!!!

Don’t ever leave your phone in a taxi. Taxi 339 tried to extort us and charge $ 30 to bring the phone back. Steve the supervisor said it was company policy to allow the drivers to charge whatever they wanted to make up for their time. Taxi 339 was in Torrance. After an hour we called back he was off duty in Wilmington. Said for 30 bucks he’d bring it back. The ride was only 11 bucks from my house. Supervisor Steve agreed with the extortion. Will never use this crappy unethical company again. With the age of Über, you guys are stupid to downgrade your customer service and think you are untouchable. Will be going to the news and newspaper tomorrow.

The driver was a nice guy but i dont like the dispatcher telling me it will be 5 – 10 mins when in reality i was waiting for 35 minutes. Each time i called back they told me «hes a mile away» which was clearly a lie since it was said more than once

I previously wrote a review complaining of a missing guitar. I am writing a new one to personally thank Michael, Alberto, Oscar for going the extra mile and helping me recover my guitar. I know it’s not an easy job and they were able to make it happen, it shows you care about the customers and take our requests seriously doing whatever is in your power. Thank you.

DO NOT USE THIS CAB COMPANY
Whatever you do, do not call this black hole of possessions.
Use any other cab company. Use Lyft. Use Über. Call your mom, just DON’T CALL THEM!
I left my backpack in the car, complete with my car keys. (ya fine, my fault, but I’m only human). So then what? I called them to inquire about its whereabouts and the phone just kept ringing… and ringing… AND RINGING!!!
I left voicemails upon voicemails, but to no avail.
Don’t expect to hear from any human being after they’ve received your money.
They couldn’t care less.
If there’s anybody out there from South Bay Yellow Cab who can help me find my stuff, please call me. (310) 384‑7091. Even if you don’t have it, please call as a gesture of basic human respect.

I’ve been having rude driver after rude driver with this company. Basically if you don’t have cash they hate you and make sure you know it. They say mean things, drive too fast and demand bigger tips since you used a CC. Don’t take credit cards at all if you’re just going to be mean about it!
Cab companies like this are why Über is taking over this business.

Never ever ever will I use this service again. The lady who does the dispatch is rude and inconsiderate and I suggest she try to catch a flight at LAX to instill a sense of urgency in her bones.
I called the night before to get a cab for a 4am call. When it got to be a little after 4am, I called to follow up and she said that no one had been dispatched and that it would take up to 30 mins to get a driver.
Fearful I would miss my 5:30 am flight, I drove myself and parked in a nearby lot barely making my flight.
I’ve used there services in the past, but never again. You guys need a lesson in customer service and I suggest you stop hiring young, inexperienced, chip-​on-​their-​shoulder people to answer the phone. As a matter of fact, fire the girl answering the call at 4am on 2÷3÷14. She is taking your business down.

ONE GOOD TURN DESERVES ANOTHER…
About a month ago my iPhone 5 disappeared in an LA Yellow Cab (cab #6087, Roman Hovsepian) and since then, I’ve been utilizing SideCar and Lyft as local transportation services. This past week I was contacted by an LA Yellow Cab rep in response to my complaints on twitter and Unilocal about the company’s poor customer support and shady drivers. Through an email conversation, I learned that my claims were thoroughly investigated and the company provided me with enough credit vouchers that i will be taking another yellow cab the next time I’m in need of ground transportation. I figure that it’s just as important to share positive consumer experiences publicly as it is to complain about negative ones. I’ll be paying close attention to the pros and cons of ‘Taxi-​Cabs vs Ride-​Shares’ when I finally make it back into a Yellow Cab and it’ll be interesting to see which service I’ll choose for a ride when I need one in the near to distant future. Perhaps the arrival of new ride-​sharing options has given Yellow Cab the motivation to pay closer attention to customers’ voices? Perhaps their drivers will come to look at their passengers as ‘clients’ rather than inanimate ‘fares’ that are a dime a dozen once their not so available as they once were? I know that from my perspective as a customer, I’ll always choose to spend my money where I feel I’m receiving the most value for it, as I know that not a single of my dollars comes easy. Ordered cab for LAX. Stood outside after the «your cab is here» phone call… no cab.
Again, my phone rings and I’m outside but no cab. I walked around my building to find a cab waiting down the street. I walked, luggage and all to my cab and told the driver he was at the wrong address. (Interesting because he was on an entirely different street than mine! It’s like my address was West 15^th Street and Cab was waiting on Artesia Blvd. How do you mix them up?!?)
Next the driver asked me if I was going to fly on Southwest Airlines?!? Ok what about me said «Southwest?» I found that insulting it’s like picking up an Chinese American and asking, Oh you must be flying China Air. No I’m not flying to Oakland, Drop me off at my airline, UNITED! I’ve never flew SW, ever.
More? Sure… On the entire ride I got a lecture on how to raise kids. Humm, why do I need this speech?
FINALLY… arrived at LAX as I’m getting my stuff to exit this guys cab, he sits in his seat speaking to me via rear view mirror particularly begs for a tip «because of his family needs» and wanting me to call him direct for my travels from now on. while he insisted on finding a business card I’m wondering who I need to speak to regarding my missed flight because clearly he wasn’t letting me out of his cab.
I should have Unilocaled them. NEVER AGAIN.

BETTER TO PAY IN CASH.
The first time I used South Bay Yellow Cab everything went as scheduled. Taxi was on time both ways and the drivers were courteous.
However, on my next round-​trip with them things changed. The cabs were prompt, but when I went to use my debit card to pay the fare, their machine registered «Card Declined.» I knew this was wrong so I tried the card again and got «Card Declined.» Then I used my Master Card and this time, no problem. However, ALL THREE CHARGES appeared on my two accounts.
It took several attempts, but I finally got through to their Accounting department. The lady said that only one billing appeared on their records for the trip. In the meantime, I contacted my bank and all three charges appear on my two accounts. The bank is disputing the two extra billings. BETTER TO PAY IN CASH.

Have used them twice in the last year and both times have been very good. First the CABS are nice and neat and so have been the drivers. Got a call on my cell when the cab showed up and so far they 2 for 2 in the on time department.
Will us them again when I have the need.

It’s not very often I use a taxi to get anywhere. However, I was in desperate need of taxi. I had to deliver a vehicle to another location. I tried using my AAA card but they wouldn’t tow the car unless car is broken down. I told them I’m willing to pay for the service but they quoted over 140 dollars for the service provided by their recommended towing company. My call was transferred to that towing company and was advised that the wait will be 2 hours. So I said screw it, I drove the vehicle to my destination and took the taxi back. By doing this, I saved about 90 dollars.
I called the number for South Bay Yellow Cab and dispatch has advised me that my ride will arrive in about 10 to 15 minutes. After I hung up my phone, they sent me a text message to confirm my request.
I walked outside and my taxi driver was already pulling up. I was amazed.
It didn’t take more than 6 minutes for my ride to arrive.
One thing to note is that my ride did not have the «South Bay Yellow Cab»
label on the vehicle. However, the four digit vehicle number mentioned on the text message matched what was on the vehicle. I asked the
driver to make sure it was my ride. He confirmed that it was. He had
LCD screen near the center console and it had my address and
my first name on there to prove it. I guess the days of CB radios (which can easily be intercepted) are over.
I appreciated the fact that the driver drove smoothly and safely all the way to my destination, no reckless driving!
Driver didn’t try to cheat me by driving around in circle. He took the most
direct route to my destination.
I’d definitely use them again!
