Fred’s Barber Shop

If you want a haircut in which the barber takes little consideration into what you want and doesn’t even show you the finished product in the mirror, go to Fred’s. I have NEVER been to a barber that does not ask if the cut is okay, but instead keeps saying «should be good» to himself. Even when I asked if he could even something out, he made the difference in length worse. I have cut my own hair better than the haircut I received. Never again.

I went there today: i usually cut my own hair but today I was kind of lazy and decided to try a cut I had years ago.
it was a nice little place, own by a polite guy, I showed him an old picture of me with the hairstyle i was going for.
it was like I’ve never done, he just did a normal cut…
I asked him to make the hair a little shorter on the sides, he starts grumbling and followed my request.
It took 40 min, the same it usually takes me to cut the hair and clean the floor…
it cost 13 $
probably next time I will keep my 13 $, and do it by myself.
but do not get me wrong: if you go there for the only request of mohawk /​shave your head or a simple cut my hair at this long it will work just fine.

I have been here once and will go again in a heart beat. Loved the way my haircut was done and I loved the atmosphere. Quaint little place down the street from my house so it makes it really convenient to swing by on my way home from work which I will be doing today.

I asked to cut above the sideburns, and the chops are buzzed off, I asked to leave hair on the back, just to add some healthy volume, its cut thin short… I mean… really?

Damon is great. This was my second time getting my haircut from him. He definitely spends a great deal of time and made sure I got the haircut I wanted. Since I’m Asian too, he made sure to let me know the hair in the pic might not turn out the same way on my hair. I got compliments on my haircut the very next day. It’s more than I typically spend on a haircut but well worth it because he’s experienced, knows what he’s doing, and didn’t make me feel rushed. I’m glad I discovered this place through Unilocal

Needed a clean cut quick. Saw good reviews and gave it a shot. Very pleased with the outcome! Definitely going back. Old-​school feel, small but cozy, and cash only.

Damon’s great. I’ve been going to him for the past 3 years, and even though I’m moving up north for a job, every time I visit family I’m making sure to fit a haircut into the schedule.
You get the interaction you’re up for. If you want to talk or be silent, he’ll accommodate you. As far as haircuts go, Damon has always made sure I’ve walked out happy. If that means I want juuust a little more trimmed off one side of my head, he’s glad to do it.
Just keep your expectations realistic. If you’re specific about what you want, he’ll make it work for you. If you don’t know what you want and are looking for someone who’ll give you a full consultation on what would look good on you, there’s another place for that called a salon, and it’s going to cost a lot more than the 12 – 13 bucks that Damon charges.

Great chill place. No waiting, due to the weather I’m sure. Good conversation with the barber. Quick and great price. Got a shave fade for $ 13. Place has kool vintage items, real barber feel to it. Had a college game on. Definitely will be coming here from now on.

I’m honestly only giving it 3 stars instead of 4 or 5 because it is really my first time getting a cut here. My next cut i’m definitely going back and i’ll update then.
My cut looks great. I actually haven’t had to fix anything. No strays and the transition between size 4 and 8 is excellent. I don’t know how he’d do with longer cuts, but if it involves clippers and a little scissor work, he seems competent.
As an establishment I get what they are going for but it could use a little something. I can’t put my finger on it. I found the parking to be a breeze on a Friday at 530p. He didn’t have a wait and I was out of there in about 20 minutes. Usually my haircut doesn’t take but 10 minutes but the owner and I chatted the whole time. If you are in a pissy mood, this is not the guy for you.

i wanted to give this place a try sense i saw that this place was getting good reviews on Unilocal.not bad for the priece but it was to good to be true. the reason being was that after it was done, i did chekc it out and it looked fine to me. but when i got home took a shower and checked it out again. the rightside was longer than the other (hair was longer), the leftside was shorter and the fade was good but didn’t match either side. also the line up was bad too because the rightside was cut further in and my girlfriend noticed right away. i couldn’t do anything about the line up but i just end up getting my hair cut fixed at fantastic sams for free cause i normally go there.

Thought I’d write a review since it seems like most all of these are pretty old…
Stopped in for a haircut based on reviews — and yeah, sure, there were some old bad reviews, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time… I was in town on business, needed a hair cut bad and didn’t have time to get back to my regular place.
Great little hole in the wall shop. Nice guy, great quick hair cut, great price. My hair’s not hard to cut, and the barber did a great job. I’m totally satisfied. Nice memorabilia in the shop too — makes me remember back to when I was a little kid with the hair tonic, lotions and advertisements.
The only reason I’m not giving 5 stars (I’d give 4 ½ since this is a pretty small ding) is that there are no mirrors that you can see yourself in while you’re getting your haircut. I like to watch the barber work while he/she’s cutting my hair — watch the progress to see if they’re cutting too short/​too long. Since my hair was cut pretty much perfect, it’s kind of a moot point — but I’d still like a mirror in front of me.

I went to Fred’s Barber Shop with my husband. We were in the neighborhood and had some time between appointments, not long enough for fancy hair cuts but we needed something quick. We found this place on Unilocal.The place is super clean, and very organized with nice antique décor. There was a nice comfortable couch for me to wait. Damon was a very friendly guy and easy to talk to. Even during a quick haircut, my husband and he had pleasant conversation. What makes it even better is his fee. Very reasonable. My husband said he will definitely go back, he will even go to Gardena just to get a hair cut at this barber shop.

The shop has a nice retro look with a collection of old school barber shop décor, old posters, barber chairs and counters. He always cuts it the way I want, be it a light trim or very short buzz cut. I’ve always had fun talking to Damon about what ever, sports, computers, bikes, family or sometimes I just snooze;) I cool place to hang out and talk barbershop style.

Cool place with cool barber. Been coming here for the last two months. Good conversation with a good haircut. It’s somewhat weird that you get a haircut facing away from the mirror, but I think this is so you can watch tv. Another cool thing is sometimes you get a beer after your haircut, can’t go wrong with that.

First off, let me start by saying I don’t usually write reviews, especially bad ones since I know that it could have an impact on their financial situation. But I couldn’t keep quiet about the multiple bad experiences at this place. There are some good things about this place, such as the price, and that you can get in and out in a very short amount of time. He is extremely fast at giving a haircut, but fast doesn’t necessarily mean good.
I first went to this place during my lunch break since I badly needed a cut. I just asked for a trim. I was in and out in about seven minutes. The cut was definitely shorter than I was expecting, but wasn’t something to make a fuss about. Since I work a lot, it is hard for me to find a place that is quick and convenient. This place is definitely that. So I went in the second time and asked him to leave it long, just clean it up a bit. Unfortunately the way his place is set up, the only mirror available is behind you, so you can’t see how the cut is coming along. When he was done, I took a look at it and it was WAY short. Definitely wasn’t happy with how short he made it. I’m sure he’s so used to everyone wanting it short that he just does the same cut continuously and not really listen when you say «keep it long».
So this last time I went in was the last straw. I specifically told him to leave it long. I told him about my previous experience and that I didn’t want him to cut it short. He said he would start by leaving it long and then if I wanted it shorter, he would do a little bit more at a time. So then, he was cutting away, and then says «you’re all done». He didn’t even check to see if I wanted it shorter, or if it was acceptable. When I turned around I was furious. He made it so short and bad that I literally had to go out and buy a hat immediately. I have given this guy the benefit of the doubt, and after several chances, I couldn’t keep quiet. I made it very clear to him that I had a job interview the next day and let him know my concerns and how I wanted it cut. Once again, he didn’t listen.
I think he is a nice guy, but people want a barber who is actually going to give you what you ask for. Even when you are the only customer there, he acts like it’s a speed contest to get you in and out as fast as possible. If you don’t care if he makes your hair extra short, then by all means, give him a try. But I will not be going back there.

This place looks like it could’ve been on the set of «Mad Men» or «77 Sunset Strip» (Kooky, Kooky, lend me your comb!).
Vintage hair tonic ads and products line the walls and shelves, replete with a non-​functioning console TV to add to the atmosphere… wait a minute — tune into CBS! Cronkite’s doing a special on the Apollo 11 moon landing!
Don’t worry — there’s another more modern, compact TV in the other corner.
But, why bother? I personally prefer to engage Damon (or Kazu, as he prefers to be called) in some witty banter while he expertly navigates my slightly receding dome with his barbering implements. A great, reasonably priced haircut, every time. I’ve been a customer for the last 3 years. Cash only, kids (even the register is old school).

Went with the BF to get his hair cut, went on Unilocal to find someone with good reviews. Went with Fred’s barbershop and it was a great choice.
My BF is pretty picky with barbershops, but was getting tired of the 45 – 60 minute drive down to Westminster to go to his «regular» place. Apparently there are dozens of crappy shops out there (or girl salons disguised to cater to guys? somethin’ like that) and he just wanted an old school regular barbershop that gave a good haircut.
This place is off a larger street near the 99 cent store off Western, and when we pulled in we were greeted promptly by the owner. He seemed really friendly and skilled. I think he whipped out at least five different cutting/​slicing/​shaving instruments as he worked on my BF’s hair.
Anyway, my BF left happy with the cut, which says alot! He said it would be his new «go to» place now, and asked if I could post a positive review so here I am!

If you are looking for a barber, look no further. Damon is a master of his craft. My decade long search for a consistent barber, whom would not screw up my haircut 95% of the time, is over.
Damon is easy going with a great personality. In fact, he’s the only barber I’ve ever actually had a conversation with outside of the common niceties.
You can’t beat the price, quality or atmosphere. Cheers Damon.

I’ve been going to commercial hair stylists (Supercuts) for years and finally got tired of it. Having to explain what you want every time you visit because you always have your hair cut by a different person and feeling like they don’t even care about you finally got to me so I searched for something more personal and down to earth.
This barber shop is that! I took a chance on this place and I’m very glad I did. The barber knew exactly what I wanted even after I explained it wrong. He was very friendly and the shop feels extremely homey. I will definitely be coming here from now on and will recommend this place to everyone I know.
