Hemopet

I’m very happy to make the 1.5 hour drive to Dr. Lassin for the care of my dogs. I have heard about Dr. Dodds and Hemopet from my dog trainer for a couple years. I’m glad to finally be able to take my dogs to Hemopet. I’ve had the allergy and thyroid testing done, which has helped me choose the proper foods. I like that that Dr. Lassin uses Traditional Chinese Herbal formulas, food modifications and alternative treatments, rather than just prescription medications. The staff is very friendly and accommodating.

This review if for Dr Lassin at Hemopet Holistic Care. A few years ago, I was searching for a holistic Vet in Orange County. After lots of research, I took my dog to Dr Lassin. My dog was 12 at the time, and has numerous «issues» including chronic back issues, allergies, digestive issues… Dr Lassin did a complete Western medicine exam, and what was most important to me, a holistic exam. During the first appointment, I found out that Dr Lassin was also working with Dr Dodds. I’ve had greyhounds for 10+ years, and have been having blood work done at Hemopet for years, so was very happy to find this connection. Based on Dr Lassin’s recommendations, we changed Arthur’s diet, put him on some supplements and regular acupuncture sessions (with electrical stimulation). Arthur is now 14 ½ and would not still be with us without Dr Lassin’s care. We still see him for regular acupuncture sessions and check ups. Love him!

This review is SPECIFICALLY geared toward Dr. Jean Dodd’s treatment of my dog’s thyroid condition and nothing else. I have no knowledge of her other work.
In 2010, my dog was diagnosed as being hypothyroid and though I had always leaned toward holistic medicine (for both myself and for my dog), I thought it best to go with Dr. Dodd (because after all, she is supposed to be the thyroid «expert») on the issue and have my dog take Soloxine. (which I now consider a poison).
At first, it appeared that my dog was doing okay. Nothing too drastic, but then he started becoming hyperthyroid. So we lowered his dose. Next test, levels were close to normal. And then yet again, my boy went hyperthyroid. Lowered dose again.
This went on and off for about 2 years. Then, in 2012, my dog ends up having THYROID CANCER and WHY. Because it is believed when a dog (and perhaps a human too) undergoes rapid changes in the thyroid gland (i.e., hypo to hyper), the cells go crazy and tumors grow. By the time my boy’s cancer was discovered, it had metastasized to his lymph nodes and lungs. Three months later I had to say goodbye to my beloved best friend. I HATE Dr. Dodds and if my review can even save one animal from this person’s quackery, it will serve a purpose. I hate myself for ever listening to this «so-​called expert».
You might wonder why I am writing this review almost 2 and a half years after the fact. Well, when I logged into my email this morning, whose name do I see on my list, yes, Dr. Jean Dodds/​Hemopet. Thanks for opening up an old (I thought, healed) wound.

If I could give 10 stars, I would. I got my dog’s thyroid tested and wanted to send the blood to Dr. Dodds at Hemopet. The vet I used was very unhelpful, and had no idea what I was talking about, so I ended up just using their lab. However, I emailed Dr. Dodds the results, and she was SO amazingly helpful. I was able to get a second opinion, and she answered all of my questions. Thanks to her, I now know how to care for my baby. I will recommend Dr. Dodds and Hemopet to everyone I know. Thank you Dr. Dodds!

What an amazing vet. I emailed her questions about a serious situation even though I have never contacted her before. She answered while traveling home on vacation!
She has been a huge help, and I will always be grateful for her time.

We just adopted our 2^nd Greyhound (Q-​tip) this month and we love him! Betty and her staff, Jessica and Ken were excellent in letting us interact w/​each and every Greyhound that we were interested in. Betty typically provides some suggestions based on your life style, however she doesn’t push. We narrowed our selection down to 3 dogs, one which didn’t pass the «cat tolerance» test and another that was «iffy» w/​the cats. Q-​tip was perfect and quite the Sweety-​pie!
They have a two visit policy to dissuade folks from making an impulsive selection and later end up returning an incompatible or unwanted dog. They also make sure the pets are spayed or neutered and have all of their shots prior to adoption.
We live in Northern California but we are happy to make the 6 hour trek south because Hemopet is a cut above the rest!

This review is for the greyhound adoption part of Hemopet and has nothing to do with the clinic or Dr. Dodd’s work.
In the summer of 2012, my wife and I were looking to adopt a greyhound. After much research on the internet of the southern California area, we found Hemopet. We read all their information and came up with a few questions. We wrote several emails in a week’s time and never got a response. Called the adoptions part of Hemopet on numerous occasions and no one ever answered the phone. Left a message and never received a call back. Finally drove two hours to Garden Grove. No one was in the office and had problems finding anyone to help us. After 15 minutes found someone coming out of a backdoor to help. Had a nice young man take us to the back and give us some information about the facility. We told him we had tried to call and leave emails but got no answers. He told us you pretty much just have to come down that there is no one who returns calls or emails!!! He then allowed us to walk and interact with several greyhounds on their grounds. This was nice and gave us a chance to evaluate these wonderful animals. The young man asked us what we were looking for in a greyhound so we told him possibly a female who might be a good match for our male dog we already had, but told him we were open to their suggestions since they were more knowledgeable than we were. He made a phone call to his supervisor right in front of us and we could hear her say, «I’ll be the one who tells them what they get.» When he got off the phone he tried to cover and we didn’t let on we could hear her response. He then handed us an application for adoption. We were a bit taken back by her decision without ever meeting us. All we were looking for here was to talk with someone about adoption and get advice on what was best. I guess our impressions upon leaving there was that since they were very hard to get a hold of, how badly did they really want to adopt out their greyhounds? Additionally, the supervisor didn’t seem to really want to work as a partnership with us to find a greyhound and thought only she knew best. We were just not left with a warm cozy feeling. We eventually found an adoption agency who were very personable and friendly and willing to teach us and find us a very nice greyhound. Two stars for at least letting us walk with several of their dogs.

Dr. Dodds has saved our little guy’s life!!!
If your pet is having problems and you don’t feel they are being properly resolved, or you need an immunology expert, then you need to see Dr. Dodds.
Dr. Dodds is a world-​renowned immunology expert who not only has over 40 years of experience, but also has designed her own tests for greater diagnosis accuracy, and has done extensive research into the why’s and how’s of diseases and testing. You wouldn’t know it from meeting her, she and her staff are so down to earth! And her office works tirelessly weekdays, evenings and weekends, which makes it pretty convenient for working folk.
She also runs a Greyhound rescue, with 250+ Greyhounds waiting for homes. She’s not making money — this is her life’s passion, and she is able to keep business going through donations (which I have done, bless her and her staff!!).
OUR DETAILED STORY:
I thought our dog was «just getting old and lazy,» but his disease progressed and took a steep decline and he stopped eating and wouldn’t get out of his bed. I freaked out. He probably had two weeks left at that point.
Our regular veterinary office, who is good for the «basics» but confined to «the box» when it comes to more challenging issues, wanted not only to charge RIDICULOUS amounts of money ($ 1000) to perform a blood transfusion, but also charge another equally ridiculous amount for a painful, HORRIBLE procedure — one which Dr. Dodds could determine via BLOOD TEST! And our regular vet was a little too excited to pigeonhole our little guy into a rare disease (which I instinctively knew it wasn’t — I have a feeling it was because it could relate to coveted doctoral «experience»), and thus possible kidney failure due to lifelong and unneccessary treatment.
Not to slam my regular doc too much — I think it really relates to a failure in «Western Medicine» training and conditioning, which is pretty Pride-​full, unhealthily competitive, and not very curious or sensitive. It is what it is. To my regular vet office’s credit, they did want to refer me to (sadly, their) immunologist, whom I had read mixed reviews about (bleh).
I searched for DAYS for a veterinarian immunologist who could help me with my dying dog’s problem, including Unilocal (Dr. Dodds didn’t come up in the search, or my life would have been much easier!). At the point when I was losing it and thinking there was no hope, I just happened to stumble upon a forum repeatedly praising Dr. Dodds for her knowledge and ability to treat pets. No joke, these posts were right on!
She personally ANSWERED THE PHONE when I called that evening! I explained our situation, and she had us come in the next day. They did an on-​the-​spot RBC, and determined he needed an immediate blood transfusion, which could be done down the hall at the also-​exceptional office of Dr. Woods. Cost: $ 260! Cheap! Not $ 1000! And I was relieved our guy was in caring hands.
Dr. Dodds was able to determine via blood test that he did NOT have bone cancer, thank goodness — and a horrible bone marrow aspiration was NOT needed! He was put on appropriate meds, and we’ve been consulting with Dr. Dodds since. He has experienced immediate, major, and continual improvement.
Long story long, all is well, my little guy is as frisky as a puppy again and filling our lives with joy. THANK YOU, DR. DODDS AND STAFF!!! BLESS YOU!!!

Dr. Dodds is genuinely one of the nicest people that I’ve ever met in my entire life. She is giving of time and her services, and was there, time and time again, for my dog, Sway… In my opinion, she’s one of the most talented veterinarians in the world, and yet, she’s ALWAYS accessible by email… That is impressive. She is impressive.

My dog has been plagued by a series of unidentified bleeding episodes the most serious being in his spinal cord causing total paralysis at 8 months of age. He was left undiagnosed for 2 years as he regained his ability to walk. After many expensive treatments and no real explanation. I was becoming disillusioned with the vets I was encountering, finally a severe hematoma (caused by rough handling by a vet tech) left me looking for answers. I saw Dr Dodds name on a few articled about canine hemophilia. I thought it was amazing that she had started the blood bank for dogs and felt I should contact her. I found Hemopet online and emailed Dr Dodds. She responded to every single one of my worried emails. In addition to his health issues my dog had become extremely skeptical and aggressive toward veterinary treatment. After taking him to 3 local vets who could not handle him and or refused to check him for a bleeding disorder. (I was charged for the full visit anyway) I decided to take him on the one hour drive to Hemopet to have diagnostic blood work done. Dr Dodds understood his fear and she knew exactly how to handle him, the blood was obtained. My dog was examined and we were so grateful to have found Dr Dodds and Hemopet. In my opinion there is no other vet of her caliber. Dr Dodds knew the treatment for him even before he was diagnosed… as it turns out he does have a rare blood clotting factor disorder… and Dr Dodds knew this just from my emails… and she knew exactly what he needed… and mystery solved… The Greyhound rescue and the Rabies Challenge… are other amazing work that Dr Dodds and her staff are doing… I cant say enough good things about Dr Dodds and Hemopet. I feel a little better about the world knowing there are people like that in it…

The place is OK but the staff and the doctor are great! If you have a greyhound, you must go here!

I am a volunteer for the grayhound adoption at Hemopet on weekends. The greyhounds here are well cared for and look happy. Facility is clean. For anyone ready to adopt a dog, come here for a loving and gentle grayhound. But if you aren’t ready to take home a dog yet, here is a place where you could walk and interact with grayhounds 10 – 4 daily. No fees and no commitments. Just show up and they will hand you a leash. Perfect for someone to see if they are ready for a grayhound. The ground is a nice and safe environment to spend an afternoon with adorable grayhounds, until you are ready to take a friend home. I’m using Hemopet as a training ground for a future grayhound owner. This breed is little known to the general public. They are breed for racing track usually. Then on to adoption, blood bank or lesser fate. Most of their younger years are spent as working dog. But they are truely wonderful and gentle dogs to have. And contrary to their size, grayhounds are actually suitable for small size living quarters as they are trained to stay in small confined area very early on in life. Show up and take a grayhound for a walk.

Dr. Dodds is one of the best vet’s — she takes her time to call and email back… even overseas!!!
Most vet’s in LA I met and been with not even close and not on her level at all.
She is doing the Rabies challenge fund, which is so important and I can’t wait until she is done with it and proves to allt he morons who still want to overvacinate our animals with unnessaccary vaccines/​rabies.
Check into Titer test for all vaccines before buying into YOUR VET yearly reminder postcards.
She found out after 4 years of misdiagnoses that my dog was hypothyroid and that after being at different vets trying to figure out what is wrong with her and recurring symptoms etc.
Somebody her caliber and knowledge is not easy to find and I m happy to have her now as my vet for my 2 Pekes!
Highly recommend her and her rescue!

The whole blood bank thing, is a lil freaky, but Hemopet really does amazing work. From what Ive heard their greyhound rescue is just a wonderful organization, really good work.
Dr. Jean Dodds is a REAL vet! I was able to email her and she helped me! Like a real person to a real doctor. It was quite remarkable. Finally a vet who isn’t out to make a killing on vaccines
If you dont already know your pets dont need boosters, it can cause immune deficiency issues and incite diseses like cancer later on.
Come to Hemo Pet, they will do a titer to see if immunity is still present, you most likely won’t have to vaccinate!

Dr. Jean Dodds is one of my dog’s vets. She is so incredibly kind and caring and has helped me numerous times over the phone or by e-​mail when she is out of the office and we have had an issue. She is a specialist in vaccines & thyroid issues in dogs in addition to having the canine blood bank. My dog was having seizures before Dr. Dodds got her thyroid under control.

We went to Hemopet to adopt a greyhound. They are a rescue and blood donation business. I dealt with WAYNE, unfortunately he is no longer with the company. This place is doing such wonderful work in saving these spectacular dogs. I adopted the greatest dog I’ve ever shared a life with.
If anyone is looking to adopt a dog, look no further greyhounds are a cross between a cat and a dog. They are elegant, fun, loving and trustworthy companions.
Betty runs the place and is extremely knowledgeable about eh breed and all the dogs they care for.
Thanks to Hemopet we have a family member we love and cherish.
