We had a great experience at this restaurant today. My first time having Pork Back and Neck Stew and Army Stew. Food was so good and the service was so friendly. There were 9 of us and we all left full and satisfied! They let us watch the NBA basketball game on their big screen TV. The other dishes of fish(can’t remember the name), Bulgogi, Seafood Pajeon(pancakes), Chicken Kalguksu(Knife cut noodles) and Bachan dishes were also very good. And the Fried Rice at the end put the finishing touch on the great meal. We’re definitely returning. You must try this place.

Service was nice, food was meh. Maybe my standards were a bit high for the gamjatang, but it wasn’t very flavorful. Maybe I’ve been spoiled with the flavor that Ham Ji Park in LA provides. The pork wasn’t as tender as expected either. The seafood pancake was TERRIBLE! The ratio of seafood to batter was basically 0 to 10. I was eating and eating hoping to find a shrimp or oyster or something but all I had was green onion. It was quite disappointing. If I wanted a green onion pancake, I would’ve gone to a Taiwanese place. The banchan provided was not worth mentioning. The food was sad and disappointing for somewhere located in a Korean district. The only reason I’d come back here is if I was super hungry after a day at Disneyland and was really craving for a Korean stew.

I’ve been coming here for the longest time. The price that they charge is very reasonable for the amount of food you’re getting. Bring your friends and family with you because even with two people, there will be a struggle finishing the meal. Gam Ja Tang House is my favorite restaurant for Korean soup simply because of the tender pork neck bones and big chunks of flavorful potato. Usually pork neck bones can be hard to get around at other places but here the meat just slides off the bone. It’s so tender and juicy and tastes amazing with the soup engulfing it. The banchan that comes with the meal is pretty decent. I can’t get enough of the mashed potatoes with slices of apples. I don’t recommend the fish here but overall I love this spot and the service is consistently welcoming and friendly.

This place had the most satisfying pork bone & potato stew. The pork bone was soft, and the fat just melted in my mouth. The soup was perfectly spicy for me, and I just kept wanting more. I was so busy craving the meat and the soup that I forgot there was also a potato. Everything about the stew was amazing. The flavors were spot on and it just hits me in the right places. Also, the price was great. It costs $ 11 for the stew, but there was so much content that you could probably share with another person. Plus, the service was very friendly. I would come back to this place again no doubt. Flavorful food, reasonable price and great service!

I came here with my friend on a Friday afternoon. We were the only customers. I love their Gam Ja Tang soup a lot. It was like the best gam ja tang that I have ever had. I wish they could give us more banchan.

YUMMMY! The boyfriend took me here for my birthday! We came here an hour before it was closing. The waitresses were kind and suggested some meals that were popular, and we ended up getting the soldier’s(army) soup, budajigae(sorry if I misspelled this) and the pot was sooooo big! I swear it can feed more than 2 people! It says it feeds about 2 – 4 people, but I think its more like 5 – 6! Any who, the soup was very delicious, but I wished they included rice cakes. The waitresses made sure that our side dishes and hot tea were always full! Would I come back? yes! I would like to try their other soup dishes!

This is a pretty good place for gamja tang(Neck bone stew) and pa jun(Korean pancakes). They bring a gas stove to heat your gamja tang, and let the potatoes cook for a bit. I came here with a group of about eight and they seemed to like it. As far gamja tang goes, there are places I do like better. I personally thought the gamja tang here was on the salty side. I do like how the meat comes off the bones very smoothly. Remember to ask for ground sesame seeds. It helps the flavor tremendously. Interior is on the small side, but just enough tables so a group of 2 – 6 should be fine. Otherwise it’s a typical smallish gamjatang place. There is limited parking in the back and one may have some good luck parking on the streets.

This has been my go to place when I am craving Korean pork bone soup. It’s so good that I don’t see myself going anywhere else for this. The only things that would unravel my loyalty is if the service becomes awful or the food does. So far, all the times that I have been here, the service and food have been excellent. Besides, the pork bone soup, I also recommend the spicy beef soup and the seafood pancake. Great spot for those chilly nights or if you want some other type of korean food besides kbbq.

Love the flavor and taste of the soups. Got the clam soup and their famous pork soup. I liked the clam soup better. Both were good though. Great food, good service.

I was hoping their gam ja tang would be very good just because name of this place. However, it was just okay– relatively average place. Service was really good though for a Korean restaurant.

5 stars for the consistent awesome care and service. The owner is actually the server, which says a lot. He is present everyday and is always so nice and generous. The dishes are great, and the sides given are the best I have ever been given from any other korean restaurants.

WHOLOVESGAMJATANG? I DO I DO. I came here with my friend who recommended it to me and wowowoowowow i loved it. I loved the flavor of the broth along with the tenderness of the pork. I love it when gamjatang has perilla leaves it because it really gives it that extra push of flavor that makes my tastebuds go WOOOHOOOOOOO~~~~ Its quite a small restaurant so go for lunch or something and during the winter time should be good since its nice and cold outside. This restaurant truly represents their name because they serve an absolutely delicious Gam Ja Tang soup. So, it’s 85 degrees outside but I was on a mission to experience a yummy gam ja tang soup after my disappointing experience at another restaurant in Irvine. So, I pleaded with some of my girlfriends to go to Gam Ja Tang House for their speciality soup. Their response, «You want soup when it’s almost 90 degrees outside?» Yeppers and my persuasive skills ended us at Gam Ja Tang House which is an inviting and casual restaurant. We sat at one of the tables and looked through the menu. They offer a gam ja tang hot pot that is supposed to feed 2 to 3 people. We were 4, and our friendly server said it would be more than enough to feed us. The banchans came out … about 6 and all were fresh and yummy. Then, our hot pot of gam ja tang soup was served at our table on a burner along with our purple rice bowls. I started to mix the greens on top of the hot pot into the soup and I could actually see all the pork meat on the bones which made me extremely happy! Our gam ja tang hot pot consisted of pork neck fall off the bones meat served in a semi-spicy sauce with potatoes and greens. My girlfriends and I started to dig in and all of a sudden there was no conversation … great sign which indicated that everyone was enjoying their meal. I was in heaven enjoying the delicate pork meat with the mouth watering broth, rice and banchans. Our server kept checking on us to make sure our banchans and water were re-filled. The hot pot was so much that we had leftovers to take home and our server also included the banchans for me to take home. Run to the Gam Ja Tang House if you want the most delicious gam ja tang soup. The restaurant also offers other types of soups which I am eager to try, in a comfortable environment with very attentive service. 5 Stars!!!

Impressed. They know how to satisfy my hungry heart… gifts of finest perilla seeds and gamja tang. The pork broth has great flavors and tastes like home cooking from my grandma’s. They know how to flavor it. again with the perilla! Whoo. The haemul pajun(korean pancake) is also nice and hearty. They use good amounts of seafood and nice long stems of green onion. Side dishes are decent, they are pretty standard. But all in all, I think i have discovered my new local go-to.

Usually, I don’t crave Korean food that much, but this place has me coming back for more! I got the gamjatang and it was filling, delicious, and super flavorful. They packed it with a ton of meat with a super flavorful broth. The portion was pretty big and I had leftovers but probably because it comes with rice and unlimited banchan. I was in love with the japchae. I could totally make a meal out of that which I bet I did! I’ll definitely be coming back as soon as the weather cools down.

Tried this for the first time and I liked it! Gamjatang was so comforting. Ordered the single serving and shared it between two people along with their bulgogi. Oh man, their bulgogi was richly flavorful in its own fat and so moist. One the best I’ve ever had. No frills, not wait. Delish. And the staff are super nice! ++++

I came here with one of my Korean friends. It was a cold day and we figured soup would be a good call. I was given a few options to pick between and we ended getting the Spicy Pork and Potato Stew($ 31.99). This is a huuugeeee portion! The menu says that it is shareable for 2 – 3 people but I think it is shareable for about 4 people. The side dishes came out first and sad to say I did not feel too compelled to pick at the side dishes as I usually would. These side dishes were just sad and flavorless. They should really pick some up from Zion market if they aren’t pro about making some good homemade side dishes themselves. Next came a mini gas stove for the soup. I am pleased that it’s a gas stove because I really hate electric stoves. The huge pot of soup came next and it was topped with a generous amount of fresh vegetables. I love veggies! We were given bowls to scoop the soup into, but my friend insisted that we just moved away the mediocre sides and eat the soup family style from the pot. Good call! It was definitely more enjoyable that way. I thought that the soup was pretty good. It was just surprisingly not spicy considering the word spicy was in the name. There was a good amount of pork in there, but my friend pointed out that the quality of pork was not to his liking. I think I would have been happier is the soup had more potatoes… I have a weak spot for potatoes so I would have been able to overlook how the pork did not fall off the bones. Nevertheless still a good comfort meal for a cold day! We also ordered some Kloud beer and some Soju — enough to leave $ 90ish on my credit card statement… Everything was hazy after the food :) But definitely too much fun for a Monday night! I wouldn’t mind coming back.

Yay to finding more Korean comfort food in the OC. We finally checked out Gam Ja Tang House since I have been craving for gamjatang(spicy pork neck soup with potatoes and assorted veggies). The portion for this dish was pretty hefty. The meat was tender and the broth so flavorful! We also tried the bulgogi stew. That was also very good except they serve it in this tiny pot, not enough room for soup. Service was great! The workers were extremely nice and kept checking on us. Parking: enter on Garden Grove to the small lot in the back of the restaurant.

The one thing you need to order if you’re planning to dine here is the GAMJATANG! Aka spicy pork neckbone potato stew! The stew was absolutely delicious and comforting. The pork is juicy and really tender… and the meat basically falls right off the bones. I love that there is a good amount of meat in the stew but I do wish they added more potatos to it. I like my potatoes to be really cooked. so its really soft and mushy however it was the opposite when I dined here. It was not rock solid or anything but it definitely could’ve been cooked a bit longer. It would’ve tasted sooooo much better that way. The spicy meaty broth was to die for — it was bursting with flavors and very hearty but it could be made spicier. The portion is definitely big enough to share with 1 – 2 other people depending on what else you guys plan to order. We also ordered the seafood pancake and the grilled mackerel. Both were good. The seafood pancake consisted of a ton of squid pieces which is a plus because I’ve seen some places skimp out on the goods and just add a ton of green onions to it as a filler. Make sure to dip it in the sauce they give you! The grilled mackerel was very meaty and big. Grilled to perfection so that the outside is crispy but the inside is soft. I shared all this with 2 other people and we were all extremely full by the end. We had a ton of leftovers surprisingly. This place is really small and parking is very limited but luckily I was able to find a spot right away. I noticed that there was only one other table of 2 inside dining at the same time as us but there was atleast 5 other cars out there. Yikes!

Addicted! I recently discovered Gae Sung thru a friend and am so glad that I have. Their kamjatang is amazing. Yes, it’s a bit of a task to eat, but so worth it. Their bones yield so much meat, it’s to die for. Their panchan is good, and their service is always spot on nice, courteous, and extremely friendly. I try to come here as much as I can. Can’t seem to get enough of it! The Yukaejang is good. But quite honestly, come for the Kamjatang, I want to come back to try the larger sizes they serve in the large cassoulet pans since I always come here by myself for lunch.

I wish this place was closer to me! The service was really good. They refilled our water and side dishes promptly without us asking. The two of us ordered the 2 – 3 servings gamja tang, hot pot style. After tax it came out to be $ 31+! The portion was huge. When I asked to add rice to our stew, they said they wouldn’t charge us and packed the meat/potato into a huge to go container. Then came out with some more heavenly goodness(see pictures). The onlu downside is, they don’t add sesame seeds to the stew – Personally, I think it would add more flavor! However, everything what is spot on! The flavor is great and there’s lots of meat on these pork neck bones! They also have gamja tang lunch specials for ~$ 8+ I believe. That’s such a great deal! I will definitely come back to try that.

On an idle Sunday afternoon, outside temperature was 104 degrees. I laid in the air conditioned room, contemplating the comings and goings. Literately. Do I return tonight? Do I return tomorrow morning. A friend and I are doing Whatsapp chat. He informs me he leaves for Boston tomorrow am. Another calls me from raining Manhattan as he’s heading to Pittsburg. This is what happens when you don’t have anyone nearby, you resort to communicating with people you never see while at home. I am seriously having trouble eating another bite of greasy American food. Phoned the valet to bring the car out, and instructed to turn on the A.C. to 62 degrees. Drove the beamer to Garden Grove Blvd., where a small Korean strip had formed. In my idle chats I learned that Gae Sung had goat stew. I have a thing with goat stew. I don’t know why. Ever since I had the sheep head in Reykjavik, Iceland, and the goat stew in Mysore, India, I had started getting into this gamey dish. One friend recently accused me of making changes. It’s been an ongoing theme in our discussion about my state of being. I’m not changing. I simply like my idle independent times. I like being alone. Eat alone. Enjoy a bowl of black goat stew alone. In this restaurant, in this section of town, all by myself, alone with my book, at 3PM Sunday afternoon. I was the only person at this hour. The stew was steamy hot with a lot of goat meat, herbs and peppers. If I have a choice, I eat nothing but Korean food in LA region. It simply is the best in the nation. The banchans were plenty, and the wait staff asked me which ones needed to be replenished. The spicy bean sprouts and kimchi, of course. The goat meat was not gamey, which surprised me. The service was efficient. The K-pop on TV was quite fun. I had an hour of alone time doing no texting nor web browsing. I studied for my upcoming certification exam(yes another one), and I did a bit of eating. By the meal was over, I was certain I would like to come back. It was not a fancy joint, it was simply good, delicious and unusual. A keeper in Orange County.

I had just arrived from studying abroad from Seoul and I was looking for a place that I could take my family to experience Korean Food. Ordered the Bulgolgi and Gamjatang and was pleased… especially because my family enjoyed it *phew* haha. They liked that the meat of the soup was super tender and I liked that the Bulgolgi pot was not too salty(I wish they were more generous with the noodles because they are my fave). Honestly, I really like the place… it made me feel like I could experience a little bit of Korea in GG. They were playing Korean music! The banchan was pretty good… and I’m glad they served rice. Friendly service, they even refilled my Dad’s soup with more broth. I miss Korea! tldr; It’s good! Good place to take first timers.

Various panchan, including my favorite: mashed potatoes! These potatoes could have been seasoned more. Gamjatang was ordered mild and came red hot and sizzling. It surprisingly wasn’t as spicy as it looked… nor as tasty. Bulgogi was somewhat the saving grace as it is more flavorful than it looked. We were seated outside and customer service was attentive. There were 2 – 4 customers there while we were there.

I love gamjatang(pork neck potato soup) and I tried to love this place, but in the end I can’t say it’s up there with some of the better ones I’ve had. There is just something missing with the flavor at this place. For one, I feel like the meat here is too lean and doesn’t have all the fat and collagen that contribute in the making of a good gamjatang. First couple times I came here, I ate the gamjatang without knowing I can ask for the ground wild sesame seeds(deul ggae). It definitely helps to put this in, and it’s a must for some including me. I think they should leave it on the table, but unfortunately you won’t get it unless you ask for it. Even with the wild sesame seeds, the gamjatang was just average for me.

Decided on this because of the reviews. It was a good choice. Got the gam ja tang(for me) and the bulgogi(for her). The gam ja tang is highly recommended, and deservedly so. The bulgogi was a huge plate of steaming goodness. I was impressed by both. And, by washing it all down with a Hite, it made a pleasurable meal. So, I attacked and conquered… Left so full, with nothing but a stack of neck bones left. Despite its unobtrusive presence and casual atmosphere(or maybe because of it), I shall return.
