TLC Laser Eye Center

Yesterday I walked into TLC to have LASIK done by Dr. Donnenfeld. Today I’m typing this review and seeing ²⁰⁄₂₀!
The TLC staff at Garden City were friendly and professional. I was obviously nervous, I’d been putting off LASIK for years. I’ve worn glasses since elementary school. I could barely see my hand in front of my face without them.
I had a morning appointment. I got to TLC, filled out some forms, had some more measurements done, met with Dr. Donnenfeld, (took the offered Valium) and got ready for my procedure.
In the laser room the staff gave me a blanket (which I called my security blanket, that somehow made me less nervous) and numbed my eyes. Dr. Donnenfeld came in and did the procedure. It was quick, he talked me through each step, explained I’d feel suction, explained directions like «look at the light» «close your eye, open your eye», warned me with «we’re going to start, you’ll smell the laser» (wasn’t expecting that… kind of a burnt hair smell)…everything went smoothly and quickly. No pain. Good communication. I could actually make out people’s faces right after the procedure. I HIGHLY recommend this procedure and this group!
Today I went to my one day post-​op appointment and I read ²⁰⁄₂₀ with both eyes! I can see everything, and I have no discomfort, my eyes don’t even look like anything was done to them!

This place is amazing, Everyone on staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. The surgery by the Dr. was quick and perfect, Was able to see ²⁰⁄₂₀ on the next mornings visit. I saw Dr. Morschauser a few times before and for the follow ups, She was so great in making sure I was comfortable with everything and that I knew what was involved in the procedure, She also made sure everything turned out perfect afterwards. Couldn’t be any more happy with everyone there, Would highly recommend TLC to anyone who is looking into this procedure. Thank you TLC!

Got the surgery which was about 30 seconds on each eye and could see ²⁰⁄₂₀ by the next morning. Excellent results.
The only thing that could be better is if staff could explain the procedure to the patient. I asked what the actual procedure was a bunch of times, but the staff kind of brushed over the answer, like they’ve done it so many times that it was no big deal. I get that, I do that in my profession too, but I’ll tell you, it is scary going into the procedure blind (PUN INTENDED! ha).
It’s all of the patients first, and hopefully only time, to get it done and it is scary once you get in the room. A little notice about the suction cupping of the eye, the possible bruising, the liquid you feel dripping, the smell, those are all things that should be explained to the patient before, so we are not petrified once in there.
Other than the lack explanation of the procedure beforehand, the surgery was quick, clean, and only a little uncomfortable with results that were instantaneous. Would definitely recommend. ²⁰⁄₂₀ in less than 24 hours — how can you beat that?

Best surgeon, Best staff and Best technology! Dr. Donnenfeld has the best bedside manner and makes the patient feel comfortable and confident! Dr. Morschauser is great at proving education to the patients so the the all around experience is fantastic! Bravo TLC! Thank you Dr. Donnenfeld.

Wanted to see if I was a candidate for lasik and decided to go here due to the Unilocal reviews and proximity to my home. Scheduling was easy and the wait on the day of the appointment wasn’t long.
The actual appointment took longer because of «complications.» Because I have astigmatism and the vision in my right eye wasn’t as strong as my left, they told me I had amblyopia which made the lasik risky (because if something happened to my one good left eye during the procedure I’d be stuck with the bad one). I had never heard of amblyopia before in my life and none of my several visits to eye doctors over a fifteen year period ever mentioned it so I was skeptical. But I was told they would send my file for review to the surgeon and they’d get back to me by Friday (three days away). Didn’t hear back until Wednesday the next week when the other doctor (female with blonde hair) called to tell me that the main doctor who does the surgeries had agreed to do lasik but first he wanted to do a LRI surgery to reduce the astigmatism in my right eye. So that’s a whole other invasive procedure I’d have to undergo. When I tried asking some questions about the surgery she was very rude and curt like I was wasting her valuable time. At the end of the conversation she said someone would call me the next day to schedule a full exam. Never got another phone call, just promotional junk emails to come in for a free lasik consultation (which I had already done). It’s been two months now.
A few weeks later I decided to get a second opinion at Long Island Eye Surgeons. Here I was told that the vision problems in my right eye were due to extreme dryness and a scar on my cornea. It took the doctor about ten seconds of looking into my eye using a light to see those tell tale signs, something TLC completely missed during an hour long exam.
Just to be sure I decided to get a third opinion. I was referred to go see a corneal specialist at Stahl eye care, to confirm the opinion and also to get a better idea of what the scar was. So I went to see him at Stahl eye care, which is only about half a mile from the TLC center. He also quickly confirmed that my right eye was very dry and the scar was a result of potential contact lens abuse which I foolishly admit was likely. He actually laughed when I told him what the TLC people told me because of how completely wrong they were.
So I am currently on a regimen of eye drops to heal my scar before I get my lasik done. I have a choice between LI Eye Surgeons and Stahl whom I both trust. I think Stahl is also doing a huge discount for 50years of lasik so it would be much more cheaper than the quoted TLC price.
Based on the reviews I’m sure TLCs surgeon is fantastic, but based on the fact that they were so rude and missed something so simple, I wouldn’t go back there in a million years, especially when there are much better options nearby.

Just went back there yesterday for a check up. The staff and doctors are extremely nice and knowledgable.
I would highly recommend them for LASIK surgery.

I got LASIK eye surgery done by Dr D. Himself and quite frankly I’ve never been happier. You can look him up, he is one of the very first to start doing LASIK surgery. I don’t know about you but I want the best, I want who’s done the most, I’m not compromising my vision for some radio commercial or cheap pricing.
We all know how it feels to be so blind if your glasses fall in the middle of the night you’re screwed and you may have to call in reinforcements to help you find them (DEFINITELY ME) lol well… I was that person and I needed my glasses to make it to the bathroom in my own house that I’ve been living in my whole life.
The best part is being able to wake up and read an alarm clock/​cable box… To us vision impaired… That means the WORLD!
If you have Davis vision, you do get a discount, I encourage everyone I meet to get LASIK or atleast make the trip out to Long Island for the consultation. The happiest day was the day I found out I was a candidate.
It’s been almost two years and all the nose marks from my old glasses are completely GONE! I can read like a champion and I’ve never been happier.
The staff is professional, and they’re all really nice. The office is clean and you don’t wait all day for your appointment. I’ve always been seen in a timely fashion which is important to me.
I have my follow ups with Dr. Mariani and he’s equally as excellent. Everyone makes you feel extremely comfortable and they have the most state of the art machinery. It’s pretty cool staring at a dot for a minute then seeing a print out of your whole eye in color.
I encourage everyone to run over and get their consult like I work for them. I swear I don’t but I really am that much of a satisfied customer.

Dr. Donnenfeld, Dr. Morschauser and everyone at the TLC laser eye center in Garden City is amazing. Everyone is very nice and care about your eyes. If you’re not qualified for any type of surgery, they’ll tell you not to do it. They don’t just want your money. They want you to be well and happy with the results. I got my LASIK done on June 10^th, 2011. I was nervous and scared but that’s normal. They gave me a valium but I don’t think that did anything for me. They instructed me how to take care of my eyes before and after the procedure. The actual surgery was probably 15 – 20 minutes max, but it felt like forever. After the surgery, you can see but everything is blurry. I just went home, ate, put in some eye drops, and went to sleep. The next morning, I could see. Some things were blurry but that’s normal. As days went by, the vision got better. I don’t experience any problems with my vision. Today, I went for my 1 week check-​up and they said my eyes were doing well and that my vision is ²⁰⁄₂₀. They also said that the fuzziness/​blurriness that I still have in my left eye (the less dominant eye) will get better with time. Overall, TLC laser eye center is great and I would recommend this to anyone reading this right now.
