Shrimp N Stuff Downtown

I got the shrimp tacos which were really good. Although my children got the kids burgers which were huge and I had a bite. Best burgers I’ve ever tasted! Watch the parking meters over there. My card was hacked putting it into the meter.

First time to this location June 16, 2016.
(I’ve been to original several times –rated 5 stars) this location I can’t give it 5.
We had fried catfish platter… small pieces and batter was light but could have used a bit more seasoning.
Crab balls –excellent.
Shrimp tacos – probably 10 small… like dime size baby shrimp — and lots and lots of cabbage. FAIL.
Great red and tartar sauces.
Waitress was sweet… but, totally over attentive… and I’ve worked tables before… so, I know it’s all about customer satisfaction and efficiency but, first and foremost… pay attention to the table… LOOK before asking — the table will speak to you if you listen!
(meaning – empty or low drinks… empty plates, etc)
There was only 2 other tables occupied in the place… just found it hard to have conversations so it was annoying.
Add all this together… will NOT go back… original location only from now on.

Got the Shrimp Poboy with hush puppies. The whole thing was decent but I would expect better being on the ocean, especially the Gulf of Mexico. Nice inviting space though. I would give them another shot. Can’t fully have an opinion off one mediocre experience. Staff was very friendly.

Good service, quick, clean, relaxing environment and last but not least some great food! Price is very reasonable. You can seat inside or out. My family and I have been coming to the original location for years, this new location is a bit hidden from the Main Street which is nice and quieter especially if you are sitting outside. Plenty of shade and they have fans out for those hot days.

Shrimp and stuff has a great history for fried sea foods here on the island with their location on O st.
And. While the Downtown location has a good environment and finally some Wait Staff, the food is significantly substandard. My dish came out flat cold and my dinner guest’s blackened Seafood was over powered with salt.

Searched for a place to eat on a visit to town, decided on this one. Staff was extremely friendly, the food was great, and the restaurant was very clean. Will definitely be back on my next visit!

A-​MAZE-​ING! I’m a Texas girl living out of state and was looking for some good olé southern-​fried oysters and Gulf shrimp. I was in «hog-​heaven» at this wonderful little place tucked downtown. I ate to my heart’s content and loved every minute of it. This place reminded me of the great seafood I remember from my childhood and the atmosphere was friendly and unpretentious! Also, we went all out and got the bread pudding. Yum-​Yum! A perfect ending to a perfect meal. It was all so good, we went to the original location on the other side of Galveston the next day and it was De-​ja-​vu in the best way! Can’t wait for my next trip to the Gulf!

The gumbo and fried stuffed shrimp were awesome. Service was quick and not too pricey.

We read the reviews comparing the Ave O and 23^rd St location, but my wife and I disagree with those who claim the Ave O location is better. My blackened fish was cooked just right and the portion was large enough that I needed a to go box. My wife had the shrimp tacos which were tasty and generous. The location near the Strand was very convenient and our server was quick and pleasant. We plan to return.

I’ve been here several times, and the waitstaff is always friendly and attentive. The food is pretty good, too! Definitely go for the seafood, after all, it is in their name! The shrimp tacos are great — just the right amount of spice. The outdoor seating area is a perk; they have fans for the hot summer months.

My Partner and I Stopped in on a Monday at 11:30 on the way out of town. We had read the posts about slow service, but in our case it was top notch, Nassar was welcoming and at 70 moved faster then most 25 year olds! We had the Crab Balls, Besitos, Shrimp Gumbo, and the combo Po-​boy, The food was fresh and quite good! We will definitely be back!!!

The food here is very good, plus excellent service! I would definitely be back, maybe for breakfast tomorrow! We had besitos, stuffed jalapeños, chicken and sausage gumbo, chicken fried steak and even the kid’s pasta is very flavorful!

Mehhhh… this spot just didn’t measure up. Based on reviews, I had high expectations that were not even close to being met. The place was moderately dirty and despite the restaurant being half full, it was incredibly loud. And then the food — very bland. At our table, we got the snapper with veggies ($ 30, — whaaat? in this place?), crab balls (doughie with very little crab meat), shrimp gumbo (lacked basic seasoning), and fish tacos (very bland, over fried tilapia). No one at our table of four liked any item that they ordered. Definitely will not be returning.

I understand that «Island Time» can effect your expected wait times for service in a place like Galveston, but we were not attended to in a timely fashion by any stretch of the imagination during our first visit to Shrimp N Stuff Downtown.
We were seated on the patio out front, which was nice for the ambiance, and it was busy but not overflowing. So it’s not like we were alone outside, and that’s what could have accounted for the lack of service.
I ordered a very basic fried shrimp plate, substituting mashed potatoes for the standard fries. Everything was just average. For a seafood location right on the Gulf, I expected much better. When I can get tastier seafood at a local place back home in North Central Texas, that tells you all you need to know.
Perhaps the original location off Ave. O is better, but I don’t think I’ll be visiting this location in the Strand again.

Based on the meal I had here tonight, I wouldn’t go back or recommend shrimp and stuff to friends. I tried the shrimp kisses, shrimp po boy, and the chicken and sausage gumbo.
The shrimp kisses (besositos, I believe) were tasty and so were the thinly shaved fried potatoes they were served on. My shrimp po boy had six fried shrimp of smallish size. My waitress brought me out an extra shrimp– I guess she dropped one– which was kind of funny. The gumbo was cold and very light in color compared to other gumbo (even in comparison to pictures on Unilocal) and it was not very viscous like most gumbo. Also had to add a healthy dose of Tabasco to get some flavor. On par with something out of a can. Overall I was pretty underwhelmed.

This is the second installment of the restaurant on the island with a location much easier for tourists porting from the Carnival Cruises. Compared to the original restaurant, they have a lot of the same items – catfish, shrimp, crab balls, platters, sandwiches – but the prices are much higher because they make the portions much larger than necessary. We usually get a two filet catfish plate at the original location on 39^th for about $ 8. At the new location, all they had was a three-​filet plate (no fewer available) for $ 12. Three filets is more than most people can eat, so it’s a bit frustrating to see that they are making portions so large to charge more money.
The ambience of the place is much fancier than the 39^th Street location and they have waiters at the new place. It is much more convenient for walking to the Stand and otherwise gives some tourists a chance to try be restaurant when they couldn’t drive to the older location. However, the taste was a bit different, we guess because the grills aren’t seasoned like the other joint, and the overall price is way too much.
If you can drive, go to the location on 39^th instead. Better food and cheaper prices for a more relaxed environment.

We ate at a Shrimp N Stuff previously (tacos) and where pleased overall with everything so we decided to have lunch again here over other choices in the area.
Our waitress was prompt and welcoming, very pleasant atmosphere. My wife had the crabcake sandwich which generated a look of disappointment as she took he first bite. Bland, wouldn’t order it again. I had the boudin balls and they too where disappointing. They where lacking in flavor and I couldn’t detect even a hint of spiciness, I won’t order them again either.
We’ll dine here once more but there are other options in the area we will consider first next time.

The shrimp gumbo here is exactly to my liking. It’s delicate and fresh with a wonderful blend of flavors. I savored each bite. The shrimp in my friend’s po’boy was crunchy and delicious.
Pretty, clean, small café atmosphere. I really enjoyed the sun streaming through the windows at lunchtime.
Service was great and the server really knew how the food was prepared and raved about their New Orleans chef who started offering specialties such as blackened fish and breakfast beignets.

We stopped in for lunch before waiting in the ferry line to head to Bolivar Peninsula. Please be aware that you can no longer pay for parking at meters on Galveston Island. You have to download the app, call and pay by phone or pay at a store/​restaurant that accepts cash payments. It is $ 1.50 per hour and you can pay at this restaurant. Also, bear in mind that you need to know your license plate number. That being said we had to walk a little ways to get there.
We were seated very quickly and the restaurant did get busy but, not too busy that you would have to wait. The bathrooms were very clean and that is a huge plus on the Island!
There is also a nice patio area in front of the restaurant but, it is uncovered so, I recommend enjoying the air conditioning. We had amazing highs and amazing lows where the food is concerned. The service was decent but, had a few hiccups such as when I ordered a coke he didn’t tell me it was pepsi and then his lack of describing menu items that didn’t have descriptions led to expecting one thing and being served something entirely unexpected. I also felt that the pricing wasn’t great in comparison to portion size or quality.
Besitos ($ 8.99): Shrimp stuffed with pepper jack cheese, wrapped in bacon, deep fried and served with a side of horseradish ranch. I have to say these were better than any item similar to it on the island. The ranch sauce was also a highlight. The flavor was there but, had they not have been wrapped in bacon the shrimp seasoning couldn’t have stood on it’s own. There were these potato strip things underneath that were fried however, they were limp, greasy and not good. It really looked like someone just took a potato peeler and shucked off some slices.
Stuffed Jalapenos (7.69): Stuffed with crab meat dressing, fried and served with ranch (and the weird potato things underneath). There was a ton of crab meat in them but, I thought the jalapenos would have been a more main flavor but, it was overpowered by the crab.
Shrimp Salad ($ 8.99): This was the best item that we shared. It had crab salad made with a remoulade sauce served on top of lettuce, avocado, tomatoes and cucumbers. The shrimp salad was seasoned so well that I can’t understand why their other dishes weren’t. The cucumber was so fresh that I really thought about asking for some more.
Broiled stuffed shrimp platter ($ 15.29): Technically this isn’t stuffed shrimp and this is the item that when I inquired about it, I wish the server would have been better at describing. When he sat it down in front of me I could smell pancakes. Yes I kid you not. The shrimp weren’t stuffed; they were wrapped in a crab cake pancake-​esk concoction that was soggy, burnt on top and had some odd gravy on it. It’s definitely not what you expect when you order stuffed shrimp. The jalapeño rice was good but, I didn’t taste any jalapenos. Didn’t see the citrus butter but, maybe that was the odd gravy??? The veggies were nothing to write home about.
I also got to try the coleslaw and it was very sweet, was too creamy but, runny at the same time. I would say come here for lunch and have the shrimp salad and leave happy!

This place is definitely a hidden gem, the food is all very good. I enjoyed the fried fish platter, fried shrimp, and fish tacos — they were all delicious. The food does take a while to come out, but that is because they are very busy
Good for groups because it is order/​pay at the counter. The patio outside is a nice option during good weather, and there is a lot of indoor seating (they have 2 buildings) that is good for groups.
The parking is a bit limited, but there is street parking.
Come here if you are craving fried seafood, because that is what you will get — there are no healthy options. I did think the prices were a little high, but I guess that’s due to the location.
