We stayed here because we have pets and it was close to the beach. It was clean, the floors were hardwood and the bed was clean but the shower was horrible. The tub was so scratched up and showers was looked like they were about to fall in. We went in December it was not quiet and peaceful like we had hoped. People staying there were up all night long every night partying and keeping us up. Free breakfast included cereal and waffles. There was no milk for the cereal! I can handle the room but can not handle not sleeping. Also I was worried about leaving the dogs while we were out. Sketchy people in the parking lot and no cameras or security. I like the location but I wish they would update these issues. It was very outdated.

While I have experienced better, we found the Travel Lodge(what it’s called now) to be OK. They do take dogs. The property seems a little old and dated, but the room was clean enough… the bed was comfortable and all we needed to do there was sleep for one night. For an extended stay I would not choose it only because the rooms do not have patios. The water pressure was good and the water was hot. The room was very spacious but almost awkwardly so. It looked like it was missingn some furnitrue… maybe a couch and coffee table? Our room did have a small table and chairs on the opposite end, but now that I’m really thinking about it, I bet it was supposed to have a seating area. LOL. Oh well, we didn’t miss it. The rooms have a hair dryer and a small one cup at a time coffee maker. The coffee was decent, but I’m no coffee snob. A continential breakfast is free with your room and the waffles smelled wonderful when I was checking out. We were in a hurry to hit the road and had our dogs with us, so we didn’t get to enjoy breakfast.

It would appear that this place is now a Travel Lodge and has been recently remodeled. 1) Yeah, front desk guy isn’t that nice — others have already covered that. But… we did leave something behind in the room, and he made sure we got it back, so all’s well that ends well. 2) Location is GREAT. A block from the beach(easily walk-able). 3) The price is the lowest in the area and a steal, given the proximity to the water and Gaido’s seafood restaurant. 4) The rooms have been recently remodeled. New tiling, new fixtures, very clean. Microwave and fridge. AC worked great. 5) There’s a computer for guests to use in the lobby. My star rating isn’t based on fancy amenities or anything. But this place was exactly what we were looking for: a cheap place to sleep after a day swimming in the ocean.

I know, I know… you’re probably thinking, well what do you expect, it’s Econo Lodge but really there should still be some aspect of customer service in a hospitality business, right? Oh how should I begin this review without coming off like a total b*&@h? 1) Why Econo Lodge?(when there are tons of other choices that seem a lot better) –Well the answer is… cost. Staying with other people who are on a budget, cost is a deciding factor when getting a hotel room. Since we were just staying one night we figured why pay an arm and a leg(for those of you who know Galveston hotels, the price can definitely add up). So with the AAA discount it came out to roughly about 130/night(including taxes). 2) Front desk service What service is more like it! It was a front desk area with a person standing there who seemed like he hated his job and took it out on everyone that walked through the door. I called prior to check in stating who would be checking into the room and what not and he said he cannot do that and gave me the 1800 # to call. I called the 1800# and the customer service representative told me to contact the hotel. I called this guy back, we’ll call him«Pete.» He totally kept arguing with me that it’s not possible to give him the name of the person checking in when everything has been paid for by someone else. WTF?!? OK… so he finally gives in and I tell him the name and all that info. My friends arrive and he tells them, «I cannot let you check in but I can give you the key to the room.» My friends wait for the key but he just looks at them and says, «I can’t check you in.» My friends are so confused and state, «You just said you would give us the key to the room.» And«Pete’s response is «You aren’t listening to what I am saying.» Wow really?!? 3) Room condition Nasty! There were stains all over the carpet, the door didn’t lock properly, mold in the bathroom, dead beetles and roaches in the room, and leftover food left on the floor… eww!!! The bed were springy and not comfortable at all. I felt like that commercial where the lady puts on a haz mat suit to sleep in the hotel bed… ugh! So there you go… my two cents and then some on why not to stay at Econo Lodge. As tempting as the price may be… totally not worth it for me.

Booked the Econo Lodge for $ 50 a night Joe Dirt package. $ 50 a night! Pretty cheap for be nearly on the Sea Wall. The locale is near Gaidos(backs up to Gaidos parking lot) so it really is perfect locale. Walking to the beach isn’t that much farther than if you were staying right on the wall. The one thing missing are the unobstructed gulf views(although we can get a glimpse from our room.) This was a Boy(s) trip for us so the room served its purpose. If My Lovely Bride would have been with us I’m sure my rating would have been 2 stars(and maybe 1.) She wouldn’t have dug it as the amenities aren’t the best. Staff isn’t very friendly. Their ‘free’ breakfast is priced about right too. Pool is kind of small. But again. $ 50. Location. Frig in room. Microwave. You’re going to get the Joe Dirt crowd, unfriendly staff, and a few other challenges that are fine for a pack of Boy(s) but maybe not so fine if you have females with you.
