Casa Del Mar Beachfront Suites

Let me start by stating that the staff in the office deserves 5 stars, but I would give the room –1.
The staff was great. They were helpful and professional and refunded my money after a sleepless night. After I pointed out some of the problems, the staff said they would use our experience as a teaching tool for housekeeping. I hope they follow through so I won’t get into that.
I’m writing this review to list the good and bad points of the room so that hopefully more changes are made.
1. The hotel is in a great location. It’s just a right turn off the main highway as you come into galveston and it’s close to all of the activities. If you eat at buffets, it’s next door to those types of places.
2. Security was visible the entire time.
3. Parking was convenient and there were lighted spaces.
4. The view from the angled room was nice. We could see a pier and past the sewall.
5. The room ad said it sleeps 5 or 6, but I would say 2 and possibly 2 children. The bed in the room is small and 1 person has to sleep against the wall. The bunk beds were too short for us and the pullout couch was old and the mattress was stained. Nobody wanted to sleep on it, but my mom offered to try it and my daughter and I crammed into the bed.
6. While the living room was dark and quiet for Mom, the curtain in the bedroom was to a hallway window. Lights stay on in the hallways all night and light shined through both sides of the curtain, making the room very bright. Also, because our heads were on the hallway wall, until 3 am we heard girls running down the hallway screaming. We didn’t sleep and I had driven for 14 hours, including a short stop in austin.
My suggestions as a tired traveler would be to clean the room, paying attention to walls and corners, do something with the windows in the bedrooms to block out the lights, sound proof the hallways to cut down the noise, replace the old sofa beds.
If the hotel would make those changes, I would return.

Love this place! Have stayed here twice in the past year. Great for long trips because of the kitchens, fridge, and good size bathrooms! Love the pool area and the balcony views are all great! I will be back

This hotel was amazing!!! We checked in late after 8 and the night staff was so friendly and helpful. We let them know we where there for a birthday and they gave us a really nice room right off the water on the top floor. It is right of of 61^st so finding it is easy and makes it easy to get to most things on the island. They called us once we got to the room to make sure everything was fine and to are liking which was a nice touch. We asked if we could check out late and they let us checkout a few hours later than normal with no extra charge. They even gave us two car passes, which I find really rare on the island. The room was very nice for the price paid and we had a lot of space. Every room has a private bedroom, bunk beds, and a pull out sofa. They say the bunk beds are for 10 and under but I’m 21 and slept on one just fine. (I’m short 5’2) I wouldn’t recommend a grow man should sleep in one. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything we needed which is a huge plus. The view was the best part of course well worth it. We went during the off season so we had pretty epic service and perfect location for the price. I doubt it would be like this during the summer but I’m sure it’s worth it. I come to the island often and I will be coming back here to stay for sure.

The family and I decided to take a weekend trip to the beach. We got a room here at casa del mar. It’s a cool place, the suites are nice and comfortable with s pretty good view of the ocean/​beach depending on what side your on. My daughter loved the built in bunks for kids. There’s also several good eateries and shops within walking distance. We also got four tickets to moody gardens when we booked our room which depending on what attraction you visit there was a value of about 80 bucks. I plan on making this a yearly trip and staying at casa del mar every time I can

The location is great. The view we had from our room was great. The parking and facilities were good. The staff there was friendly and very helpful. There was security who made us feel very safe and secure around the clock. There was laundry facilities available on site as well as coke vending machines $ 1.25 and an ice machine for $ .25 we definitely enjoyed going for a swim after our ttime at the beach at either of the two pools. the beach was within walking distance from the suites. Rooms were perfect, from size, confort style and practicality. There were new fully functional appliances available (microwave, oven, burner stove, toaster) as well as dishes pot, pans, silverware, toaster, coffee maker. Definitely recomendable and looking forward to our feature stays.

We stayed here using a groupon and we enjoyed it. I had four adults and two children and we were comfortable. Yes, the room is small but I didn’t come to Galveston to sit in a room all day. We were right across from the beach and plenty of food options were close by. There is also a grocery store close by. For the price and amount of people you can put into those units, do it! Kitchen had all accessories that were needed. We were able to cook there and we washed clothes while there. We will definitely go back.

We rented a room from a private owner on vrbo and not from the actual place. It was more like a small suite than a condo. Our room was for 4 adults and 2 kids but the space was so small I wouldn’t recommend having big kids stay here. The suite itself had old furniture and the kitchen was really small. By the time we arrived the fridge wasn’t cooled so I called in and reported it. The best part of this small suite is the bathroom. The wash sink is small but the toilet is brand new and the bathtub is new too. The bathtub had a large shower head and the curtains were the ones that curve out. As for the ocean view well you can somewhat see the ocean if you’re staying up high. For the price we paid it was decent but probably won’t come back.

For our first time there we had no issues rates where descent and they even gave us a discount! Totally recommend! Will be back for sure

Checking in, I asked if I will owe anymore since I prepaid with a groupon. I even asked about the tax and they said I already paid it. Checking out, they charged me tax. I’m sure I paid it up front.
Next, they put us in a room that faced 61^st street and has traffic on it at all hours of the night. You would think that they would put people who use a groupon in one of the other 1000 rooms that are away from the horrible traffic noise. Don’t you want us to come back without a groupon?
Lastly, the mattress was so soft that our backs starting hurting almost immediately. Combine that with the traffic noise and you can imagine how much rest we got !
The positive was that the wireless internet was acceptable. Also, the room was clean and well appointed.

Very quaint, clean and well managed. I really enjoyed my stay and I will certainly return. Check in was a breeze. The front desk staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. Upon being in the suite for about 30 minutes, the front desk staff called to see if everything was to our liking.

Love this place. Used to stay here every year for the last 13 or 14 years with the exception of Ike. It’s out priced itself though. Watched the price steadily increase over the years until it wasn’t justifiable to spend that much. Was always clean and the staff friendly. Quiet overall although the front facing rooms that cost more are extremely noisy because of the traffic on seawall. Plenty of room for two people to stay for a week without tripping over each other.

I wish there was a zero star option. This place is gross. The «suites» are tiny, cramped and dirty. Reminded me of a college dorm. The front desk staff was rude and less than inviting. I won’t dive into the details but they were not interested in customer service. Just collecting money. He actually told me that was his job. My wife and I wanted to relax in a nice hotel for the weekend… this place was a huge mistake. There was a sign on the wall of our «ocean view» room stating the room was under construction and we were not to open the balcony door. After the rude service at check in, I didn’t give them a chance to give us a better room. We just wanted to get the hell out of there. We packed the car and headed to another hotel after getting the managers contact info.

If it wasn’t for the ocean front, I would not have stayed there. The place reminds me of the Casa del Mar 30 years ago. Nothing changed.

Good location, balcony with great view, and a helpful staff. The place has built-​in bunk beds, a queen bed in a small private room, and a sofa bed, so comfortably sleeps two adults and three kids. The kitchenette is tiny but we managed to cook simple meals like hot breakfast and spaghetti as well as make cold sandwiches. The place is a little older and it shows, but is well-​maintained. My only complaints are that the toilet clogged on our checkout morning, and the seaweed odor was horrendous. If you can get this for under $ 140/​night in summer, it’s well worth it.

i love this place. this is where i go with my family when i go to galvestion beach. very friendly staff. the rooms were clean when i arrived and kept clean on a daily basis, and i feel the prices were very fair. had a great 6 day trip in galvestion, will be back in 2015, and when i do, i am staying at the casa del mar. 5 stars. very happy customer.

We come here once or twice a summer. Separate room for mom and dad, bunks for the kids, and a nice small kitchen for small meals so we don’t have to eat out every meal.
They have a number of discount packages if you ask, including free tickets to Moody Gardens.
Great deal for the price.

The rooms are very clean, the water in the showers get very warm/​hot. I detest a hotel where the water isn’t hot. The sheets on bedding were freshly laundered as evident by the fresh scent. If you have kids there are bunk beds which was great. Not the newest or most modern on the sea wall but a decent place to stay. The staff were very nice as a whole.

Had a terrible stay in Oklahoma City on Saturday, so this hotel would have to be owned by the Bates family to be bad in comparison. However, it didn’t have to be, it was clean, Carl was friendly, had a little condo for a disappointing extra night Galveston. Because of fog, our ship could not leave to go on our cruise, this made our stay pleasant because we at least got a room.

I understand all the bad reviews and am a little confused here. I rented this condo from a very nice lady who told me she had just purchased it. It had been completely cleaned with fresh linens, nicely put together kitchen and all the comforts of home. We felt and were treated like guests. There was no maid service, we kept up our condo ourselves. There was an abundance of towels and clean linens if needed.
The staff was always around doing something, the front office was helpful, the location was just great, the air conditioning was a blessing. I don’t think we could have done better. We are very happy with our experience.
