Lake Canyon Elementary School

Lake Canyon is probably the best, most innovative elementary school in Galt. Mrs. Hayes started at the school in Aug 2013, and is not, as a previous reviewer called her «a ding-​dong». Yes, there was an initiation period, as anyone would have if they just started a new job.
There are more than 20 after school clubs (other Galt schools have 5 or 6), including service clubs making blankets for kids in hospitals andknitting scarves for the homeless, academic clubs including science, robotics, engineering, journalism, CAD and Scratch programming, fun clubs like Lego and classic games. Teachers have homework clubs in their classrooms after school so kids can get extra help. ABC mentors from the middle and high school come and help out kids who need extra tutoring in math and/​or reading.
The PTA hosts events like Donuts with Dad, Muffins with Mom, and the each year the school holds a Color-​Run with all money raised going to local charities.
The office staff are friendly, the campus is clean and the kids are part of an amazing community. You could not ask for a better school for your kids.

Mrs. Ekstrom is a very lousy teacher. Her teaching skills are questionable and she favoritizes her students. My son had fallen victim of the group of kids that she didn’t like. The school is okay I guess by Ekstrom was nowhere to be found when my son was getting bullied INSIDE the classroom! She didn’t like my son because he «tattled» too much but isn’t that what a 5 year old is supposed to do when another kid is slamming him to the ground in the classroom and spitting in his face?! C’mon lady! Really?! I should’ve reported her when I had the chance…

This is my daughter’s first year at this school. She has a great teacher for fourth grade, but the principal is a ding dong! She’s very unorganized and always clueless about what’s going on. It is a beautiful campus though, one of the newest schools in the town. Pretty decent school. Wish they had more parent parking though.
