History

Established in 1960.

Carl Wells became a licensed insurance agent in 1960 working for Allstate and later, Nationwide. In 1968 Carl joined the independent insurance agency of Joslin and Son. Clay Joslin started the agency in 1950 and along with his son, Jerreil, became one of the premier agencies in Gallatin. In 1976 Carl Wells became the sole owner of the agency and renamed the business. As the founder of what to was become Carl R Wells and Associates, he served as President until his passing in 2002. Barry Wells also worked for TVA for several years before joining Carl R Wells and Associates in 1984 as a licensed agent. Aileen Wells, Carl’s wife and Barry’s mom, who retired in 2006, also came to the agency in 1983 after 28 years with TVA. The newest member of our staff is Jean Wells, Barry’s wife, who came into the fold in 2008. Along with Kara Scurlock and Matt Miller we are here to serve your insurance needs for years to come.

Business Owner

A graduate of Gallatin High School, Barry went to work for TVA construction in 1977 at the Hartsville Nuclear Plant. He completed his electrical apprenticeship at TVA Watts Bar Nuclear Plant. In 1984 He left TVA to join Carl R Wells & Assoc. as a licensed insurance agent. Barry and Jean were married in 1995. Jean’s son, Matt, also works in the agency and handles home and auto insurance. In 2002 Carl Wells passed and Barry became the president of the agency. Barry is a long time member of the Gallatin Sertoma Club. Carl R Wells And Associates is belongs to the Better Business Bureau, The Insurors of Tennessee and the Professional Insurance Agents of Tennessee.
