The Foundry-Jiu Jitsu

My family and I have trained at at least 5 different martial arts centers on the past 12 years. Two major attractions of this program– 1. Instruction focuses on technical proficiency, minimizing injury potential, and 2. Maintaining a clean place. I’m usually training the earliest each day and can smell the residual disinfectant on the mats from the night before. Appropriate foot wear off the mat is mandatory and mats are disinfected daily. Another reviewer felt the mats aren’t clean enough. I would refer anyone who wishes to learn more about ringworm (tinea corporis) to the CDC website
There you will find it can be transmitted not just from hard surfaces and infected individuals, but also from asymptomatic individuals as well. In dry areas it may only survive a few hours, but moist areas it can survive up to 15 months. I’m a licensed independent healthcare practitioner and have dealt with this fungus professionally over my 30+ year career. So one’s best defense is good personal hygiene with particular attention to hands and feet immediately after leaving any exercise area and laundering with a disinfectant. With those practices I’ve personally avoided infection for almost 7 years of training here.

Amazing instruction and great people. Classes are well organized and have clear objectives. It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner or a seasoned athlete, you will be treated well and your progress will be cared for. Noël and Missy do amazing work!

I’ve trained here now for 4 years and that decision was probably one of the best I’ve made in my life. It’s a great workout while learning how to defend yourself. The facilities are clean and spacious but most of all, the instruction is top notch. Noël actually cares about his students and pushes each of us to get better at Jiu Jitsu. His love of the art is so contagious that my entire family is training here now. My only regret is that I didn’t start sooner.

A while ago my wife and I decided we wanted to take up a martial art as a family — we have two kids, ages 7 and 9. Having both done Tae Kwon Do in the past, we knew we wanted to do something a bit different as well as have our kids learn practical self-​defense. After doing some research, including reading reviews and checking out several other dojos and academies, I came across The Foundry. From day one, my wife and I were both hooked. Noël, the owner and head instructor, does a fantastic job of teaching an incredibly technical martial art. The academy’s family-​feel means manageable class sizes, which translates to plenty of opportunities to get one-​on-​one feedback directly from Noël during group classes. All classes are taught by black belts so you’re always assured of getting top-​notch instruction and feedback. Missy and Danny, the other instructors, are also incredible technicians and each provides students with their own insights, tips, etc. Noël, Missy, Danny, and the rest of the Foundry family foster a friendly and non-​intimidating environment. Perhaps what we appreciate the most is that our kids absolutely love going to the Foundry. Noël and team have a great rapport with the kids in the program. They’ve managed to create a fun learning environment for the kids without sacrificing the quality of the instruction. As for the facility, it’s immaculate (mats are cleaned everyday) and easy to get to. So if you’re interested in Brazilian Jiu-​Jitsu, self-​defense, and/​or fitness, you might want to consider the Foundry.

Can’t say enough good things about the Foundry. First off, the instructors are great. They teach in a clear and concise way that makes the intricate and complicated art of Jiu Jitsu fun and easy to learn. The students are great as well. They all work hard and treat everyone the same regardless of belt or skill level. Another important aspect of the academy is that the facility is always immaculate and cleaned on a daily basis. The Foundry also makes it possible to learn from world class Jiu Jitsu practitioners by hosting seminars with world champions like Lucas Lepri and Zak Maxwell. On top of all that there are many classes on the schedule and it’s easy to get to being right off 270. Jiu Jitsu is a great sport and The Foundry is a great place to train.
