I walked into the Blo Dry Bar, without an appointment. Opted for the Blo Out + Manicure combo.
Pros:
The staff was very friendly and offered me water or coffee. I didn’t have to wait long at all, despite the fact that I did not make an appointment, (and it was a Saturday). The Blo Out, I received was immaculate! I gave Chaucia minimal instruction, and she was able to go above and beyond my expectations. Chaucia was very nice and personable, and I believe she was as gentle as she could be while blowing out 4C hair. I am always very nervous letting new stylists do my hair, however Im so glad I decided to go out on a limb. I will absolute be back just for Chaucia! If she stops working there I am almost 100 percent certain I would just go back to my normal stylist, unless she recommends someone as good as she is. Thanks Again!
Cons: The manicure was overpriced for what I got but I still tipped nicely, because the lady Jackie was very sweet and easy to chat with. Its only been a few hours and the paint is already chipping off! Furthermore my cuticles were not touched at all! I expected better. I will not be back for a $ 20 dollar manicure if this will be the result.

I’m giving two stars because she was very nice. I’ve experienced Blo Blow Dry Bar DuPont and was expecting Gaithersburg to be similar. Unfortunately, I didn’t get that. I am VERY particular about my hair. My stylist only did one wash and «deep conditioned» it. Now in the past, all stylists have done a cycle of 3 washes. Not at this location though. My shampoo didn’t even lather in my hair, which kind of irks me when it doesn’t. So I had to ask her to wash it two more times. As far as the style, I asked her to make the curls tight. They were loose, especially the back. I just told her it’s fine and paid for it. When I got to the counter, it seems I was forced to give a gratuity. I don’t like when ppl force something like that on me, especially when there is not a sign that says I HAVE to give her one. I gave it to her anyway but I shouldn’t have to feel forced. Let’s just say I’ll make the extra trip and stick to DuPont or go to my normal stylist.

Love this place! You can not get a bad Blo out here. I’ve been frequenting Blo quite a lot and some may even say I’m addicted but once you go get your hair done you’ll never wanna go anywhere else. I’ve tried almost all the stylists and it’s hard to pick a favorite cause they’re all soooo good. Price is good too– run specials all the time so get on their mailing list ! Fun, friendly, not stuffy at all– love love love — hence the 5 stars!

I had an incredible experience at Blo Gaithersburg this weekend. I booked my appointments months in advance for my son’s bar mitzvah weekend and the staff was courteous, attentive to what I needed and talented. I had both my hair and makeup done by the staff and it was perfect. I had my appointments early in the morning and did not need to go anywhere until 4pm. My makeup and hair was perfect and stayed throughout the night. I will definitely go back to Blo.

I’ve been here a few times, and I have to say, I’m really not impressed. I had seriously high hopes for this place, since I’m a curly haired girl that really loves having straight hair. I will gladly pay to have someone else blow my hair out every once in awhile. The one time I went there for a special occasion, I had an out of town (but within reasonable driving distance) wedding to attend that night. When I arrived for my appointment, I sat and waited for a half hour, which wasn’t time I had planned on losing. The girl who did my hair that day (whose name I do not remember) was particularly rough, but my hair was done for my event, and even though it wasn’t exactly what I had been hoping for, it still was better than if I had done my hair myself.
Other times I’ve been there, timing hasn’t been an issue, and everyone is really friendly.
I’ve also seen some unprofessionalism… maybe I’m just picky, but there were girls at the front desk that would casually walk over to the nail area to touch up their own nails while guests are sitting there waiting.
I’ll gladly fix my review if things improve, but I don’t think I’ll be returning anytime too soon.

the 4 star is given for a reason.
i have gone there twice. both with pleasant service and staff but the way the first hairstylist did to my hair was not what i expected. i asked for the «pillow talk» which was loose curls all over and she gave me tight curls at the bottom of my hair. it was nicely done but like i said, it wasn’t what i was asking for. when i told her i wanted the one on the picture she said «if you want that one (which i did!) tell us earlier because that takes longer to do.» i left without complaints and tipped her because the hair looked nice anyway but i thought i made clear what i really wanted for my hair.
i went back there for my birthday and got jamie (jay-​me) and she was wonderful. she was very communicative and was pleasant to deal with. im into giving second chances and im glad i did because i met her. ill be going back to see her and no one else since i dont want to risk it anymore.

The owner is not very flexible. Don’t book an appointment if there is a slight chance you can’t come. She will charge you. Also, their makeup quality isn’t good. It’s a brand I’ve never heard of and they used Wet and Wild eyeliner on me. A few good stylists there for hair though just have to know who to go to and who to avoid.

If you are tender-headed…DO NOT GO HERE! Rough stylist that brush your hair so hard you can hear your hair popping and breaking off. Only use them if you are in a pinch and can’t go anywhere else.

I love this place but since Amanda left I haven’t really been. It’s scary letting someone new do your hair.

Not to happy about my pedicure.

I had a maternity photoshoot on the day of my appointment and had to have my hair professionally done. I went online to the website the night before but somehow there was some weird mix up with the scheduling of appointments and I missed my scheduled time. Hormonal, freaking out and desperate, I called and Liz was able to fit me in with Andrea. I choose the Red Carpet blow out and asked for her feedback. She was very sweet and friendly. Overall, she was AWESOME and did a beautiful job, exactly what I was envisioning. Thanks Andrea!
Overall, Laurie and Liz were very understanding, extremely accommodating and friendly, and I really appreciate that. The pictures came out fantastic. I felt so confident in the pictures with my amazing blow out. Thanks so much Blo! Will be back soon.

I just had my hair blown out straight this weekend at Blo for the first time. I was nervous– I have not trusted anyone but hairdresser before to style me. First, I was offered a drink– yum! Then the stylist greeted me and asked me questions about my hair (it’s naturally very curly) and she really took her time to make it look just right. It looked amazing all night! I will definitely be going back!
Overall, 5 stars! The owner and staff were very professional, but not uptight. They were attentive, and really made me feel comfortable. And, of course, my hair looked fantastic!

I have been here five times and each time I’ve gotten a beautiful «Blo» out. I always get pillow talk. I get a ton of compliments and my hair even stays for the day after. It’s a great way to have a fresh look on a Saturday night out. The stylist are friendly and Laurie, the owner, always makes me feel welcome. I will be back in a few weeks and I can’t wait.

I have had my hair done here a few times. Each time I am taken right away at my appointment time. I have loved each blo out I have gotten and I have tried a few of the stylist there. I feel like they listen when I tell them how I want my hair to look at the end. They also give me suggestions depending on the type of event I am going to. I will definitely be back!

My significant other has been a regular customer of this place and has typically enjoyed the results of the styling. The first time she went however, the appointment did take much longer than expected.
More recently, however, she had scheduled an appointment for a blowdry with her and another family member. The family member had an emergency and could not make the appointment fairly last minute and we notified them 3 hours before. However, my significant other still went to get her blowdry.
The store is STILL charging us the full amount for the blowdry for my SO’s family member who did not go to the appointment (which I will soon be disputing on the credit card). I would understand a cancellation fee of maybe half the cost, but not the entire cost of a blowdry, especially since they aren’t super busy on a weekday morning.
Due to this business not appreciating a regular customer base, I am forced to leave a negative review.
P. S. agreeing with other reviews, they are SUPER slow here. My SO was late for her engagement photos because they were slow getting her in, and slow during this particular appointment.
We were also not aware of their cancellation policy which charged the full amount, even if notice was given.

Giving a one star is stretching it. Not only did I wait more than half an hour but the girl who blew my hair dry didn’t listen to anything I asked for.
The makeup… The worst I have ever seen. I asked for a natural look and ended up looking like a street person. Went back to my hotel and took it all off. Sorry I thru away $ 70 dollars and it was my son’s wedding. Don’t waste your $$

Update: owner Laurie quickly addressed and resolved the issue. She has once again saved the day. To clarify I never had an issue with my service just the way a few situations were handled.
found this place on Unilocal,and was very excited to try the salon out, since moving here I was anxious to find a good place close to home for my waxing services. My first experience with the salon did not meet my expectations at all. Before I ever went into the salon my esti texted me asking if I would still be in because there had been some snow the day before. I loved that I was sent a text reminder of my appointment, and I informed her that I would still be in. When I arrived on time for my appointment I sat for 15+ minutes to then be told that my esti would not be in today. I was getting at least $ 80 in waxing done, I agreed to reschedule.
The next day I believe it was when I came back for my appointment, I did still have to wait about 5 – 10 minutes past my appointment time for my service. When I did go back I got along great with the esti, we were laughing and joking and I agreed to making another appointment.
Skip to a few weeks ahead, after my apartment has flooded, I’ve been sick and simply had other things on my mind, at 1015 I get a call saying that I had an appointment today at 10. I have honestly never been to a higher end salon that did not give you a reminder call, email, or maybe a text like I had received before my first appointment. I apologized and said it completely skipped my mind and I would need to call back to reschedule. The receptionist said okay sounds good and hung up
A few minutes later I get a phone call from the same girl… Who never stated her name in the first two initial calls, and said she had to charge my card $ 80 for me not showing up for my appointment because that was what her manager just told her was the policy. I had no clue they had a no show policy, because they never informed me of this! They also never once told me they were storing my card information on file, which I do not like at all for security reasons. If they are going to have a no show policy they definitely need to inform all clients of this, and they also need to inform clients they are storing their credit card information. I do not agree to anyone storing my card information without my permission. I don’t understand how they can’t remind you of an upcoming appointment you have either?
This place definitely needs to work out some kinks.

Wonderful location! Patrice, took care of me. She took her time with my natural hair which is one of the kinkiest textures. I was so happy with the results. She used heat serum or cream on my hair which made me feel like she didn’t fry my hair. It was soft and didn’t feel crazy afterwards. My curls lasted for a few days which lead me to come back the following week but do a different location. You can read about that in my other review.
What I really love about this location is that they have nails, and waxing as well. All in one location, it’s clean, and bright and off the beaten path. I would definitely come back to this location regardless of how far it is.

I live in the new apartments in Downtown Crown and I came upon this place after my concierge handed me one of their menus. I had no scheduling issues, I ended up just walking over instead of calling or using their online system. The girls were helpful and suggested the best time for me to come.
Came here the day of my wedding, we had a simple court house wedding on a Thursday morning. For $ 40 I chose one of their selected up dos in their menu, the beach waves/​curls. I feel terrible I forgot who did my hair but it was a young African American girl. The process took about an hour, it could have gone faster probably but the stylist took her time which I greatly appreciate… I hate feeling rushed.
The staff who checked me in were friendly and welcoming, I was offered a drink. My style came with a wash and blow dry (obvi!) I get it’s summer but I found the salon a tab bit too cold with me just wearing a summer dress, they could turn the air down. Otherwise this place is great, they salon was clean and pumped out good music. I was able to have a good convo with the stylists… don’t you hate it when they either talk to much or don’t talk at all?
I will be back in the future whether it’s for an event or just because… especially since they are in walking distance. I’ll most likely have the same stylists do my hair, she knows what she’s doing!

I originally made an appointment for me and my cousin during the grand opening but there was a lot of confusion on my side. I made appts and canceled them because I had a hard time using the appt making sys online. I end up calling Thursday and telling the lady the situation and she was so so sweet about everything and said that it was fine and that the 2 of us could come Friday around 330. I later received a call Friday confirming the appt and then I think they thought I made an appt for a blow out or something so the lady who calls tells me that she will get back to me about the body pedicure. She follows through and calls me and tells me she can only take one person so I tell her that we wanted to get it done together so she tells me they’re book but I can come in any other time and they would honor the $ 10 off. So we go in Saturday and book an appt for 2 on Tuesday at 4. So at this point I’m thinking THIS PLACE IS AWESOME!
So my cousin and I go in around 340 for our 4pm appt. We decided to go in earlier because we knew it would take us awhile to choose a color. Once we picked the colors the water was getting ready for us. We sit down and place our feet in the water and another employee comes up and asks if we would like water, coffee, magazine and etc so we ask for water and she comes out with 2 clear plastic cups with water for us. :)
My cousin started first with Angenae. It was a little weird cause I just sat with my feet in the water for awhile without anyone telling me someone would be coming to do my pedicure. I thought it was a bit odd but then thought maybe she’s going to work on my cousin and then me? But I figured I’d wait and see. Anyways Angenae was very friendly and was meticulous when working on my cousins cuticles, shaping and buffing. She however did not give my cousin the hot towel wrap and did not give her a nice massage.
I started about 20 minutes after with Julie. She was also very friendly. She did have a hard time getting the polish off my toes because I had put glitter at the ends of my toe nails (like a glitter half moon design). I thought she was very good and THOUGHT she did a good job with my cuticles, shaping and buffing. I did get the amazing scrub and massage during the scrub and lotion time. The massage was AWESOME!
Later Angenae goes up to the register to talk to the ladies at the counter and then later comes to my cousin and tells her that since my cousin did not get the hot towel she will only have to pay for the basic pedicure price which is $ 40. It could have been a minor mistake on her part about the towel but it seemed like she only said something about the towel because I had gotten the towel and my cousin did not. I read about getting the hot towel service when making the appt so I thought it was odd but I was going to ask about it later when they finished. I’m not really sure what happened but it was weird because my cousin did go first so she should have been able to get the towel service. It wasn’t just not getting the towel service that was off because she did not get to enjoy a nice massage like I did and that is honestly the main reason we go and get pedicures. She should have known that it was a body pedicure and not a basic pedicure because my cousin did get the scrub but not the rest.
So anyways I thought I really liked my pedicure but I wanted to take a better look at home. I went home and I examined our feet and nails and for the most part I was satisfied. My polish was not as good as I expected. My toe nails are tiny but I would think that she would be able to paint my nails evenly. When I say evenly I mean the paint should all go to the same area right before the cuticle. It was not like that. It looked a little uneven and I am very particular with the way my toes and nails are painted so some people might think it’s okay but it’s like something I am strangely slightly OCD about. Also my right big toe’s polish was not all off and there was a sliver of my previous mint nail color and my toe nail was not all nicely painted. I also noticed a few dust particles in my nail and I really do not like it when I see dust painted on my nails. My cousin’s toe nails were painted okay but did not meet my standards. She had lots of little dust particles and things on her toe nails as well.
I think that you should look at the nails a bit closer before thinking you are done. I mean this place isn’t specialized in nail care so maybe that’s why. I don’t know but I did really want to like this place. It sucks because this place is really cute. I would only go for a massage.
