Pascal’s Coffeehouse is dedicated to serving you quality gourmet coffee professionally prepared by our baristi. All of our coffees are organic, fairly traded, and locally roasted by Sweetwater Organic Coffee Roasters (1331 South Main Street, Gainesville). We also serve a variety of Numi organic teas as well as chai tea lattes and other specialty drinks.

History

Established in 2005.

Fun fact: the building was originally Chaucer’s Restaurant. It then became the Oxford Coffee Co. The building was gifted to the Christian Study Center later and the bar downstairs seemed perfect for a small coffeehouse production.

I’ve been a barista for two years here at Pascal’s and have grown to love and respect the coffee industry. Our approach to coffee has been and will continue to be holistic. Through our interactions with Sweetwater, we seek to understand coffee from the farms of Kenya, Bolivia, Guatemala, and others all the way to the drink in your cup that we hand to you. Coffee is more than just a drink. Each cup that we drink has economic and social implications all around the globe. Pascal’s chooses Sweetwater because their approach to coffee is the same as ours: to produce high quality beans while also respecting the integrity of the local farmers by making sure they get a fair price for their crop so that they may continue to live and produce sustainably.

Our goal at Pascal’s is to continue to push ourselves both in our understanding and our craft, striving continually to hone the art of making coffee so that we all may be proud of whats in your cup.

Honestly, the best part about this place is its closeness to the University of Florida campus and it’s very cute and quiet. However, if you want watered down coffee… Then I guess it’s perfect for you. The pastries also seemed old! I went at 10 am, so I don’t understand why a cheese pastry was practically like sand paper down my throat. Then I try to wash it down with my watered ice coffee which tasted disgusting. Maybe this wasn’t a good time! I went because my friends loved it, but they obviously either have bad taste or no preferences for coffee. Sorry, better luck next time I assume?

This a great hidden spot near the university. The coffee and food is always amazing as well as the atmosphere. It is a place where you can study for hours or just hang out with some friends. One of my favorite places to go in Gainesville.

They are very selective and unkind to non Christians. I want coffee, not judgement. It’s upsetting seeing as I am not filled with hatred that they would assume I am because I don’t want their version of life. I came in wanting coffee, but left with a bitter taste in my mouth.

3.5÷5 stars for now. Pascal’s coffee & tea shop earned 3⁄5 stars. The ambiance of The Christian Study, in which Pascal’s is located, is at least 4⁄5 stars.
I came in the morning and late afternoon today to check this place out. If I have the chance (and the money), I revisit places that I have tried for the first time to get a better impression of them. I asked the barista who was working this morning to explain cuban espressos to me; she gave me an adequate description with barely any enthusiasm. I asked the barista who was working this afternoon to recommend me a tea. To my surprise, she hasn’t tried the teas herself. She seemed unsure of herself when describing how to use their tea-​steeping method, so I’m assuming that she’s new here. No worries, everyone gets nervous early on.
The cuban espresso was very sweet. I’ve had cuban espressos before and this one came across as almost overwhelmingly sweet. The yerba mate tea (which the customer gets to steep themselves with the help of a borrowed timer) was pleasant. However, it is very easy for someone to spill tea if it’s their first time using this steeping method. A better explanation of the process could easily prevent this.
The ambiance of The Christian Study is excellent. The top floor is reminiscent of a university library and there are books and magazines to peruse while sipping your hot drink. Office supplies, wifi, and power outlets are all also available. I’ll definitely be coming here to get some work done.
With slightly better service, Pascal’s can easily merit 4 stars. I’ll be coming back here periodically in the next few weeks, and I’ll write an update.

This is really a hidden gem in Gainesville, especially for students looking to study or for anyone looking for great teas or coffee! It is a quick walk over from campus, so if you are near the library and half time off between class, head over here for coffee as opposed to the Starbucks in west, the line here will be way shorter and the coffee way better.
There is a great amount of seating and I have never had problem finding any. Further, there chai is one of the best I have ever had and I highly recommend it.

I would assume this has good reviews because it is openly religious and religious people would not dare criticize it for that purpose. I digress.
Coffee is less than par, environment is exceptionally loud, and the pastries are not good. If you are in the area, it is convenient and just OK.

I’m not sure their is any better cappuccino in Gainesville than what you will find here. Their coffee is some of the best I’ve had period! Their pastries are also delicious. The blueberry muffin is my sinful indulgence.
As a coffeehouse it gets really crowded with students during school days, so I usually get my coffee to go but if you can find seat it’s a good casual atmosphere.

The moment I walked in I felt like I was in a cozy cabin up in Big Bear, California. The color-​coordinated couches, tables, and chairs are so inviting they made me want to grab a book and a mug and start reading.
It’s even got a nice classroom attached to it (part of their Christian Study Center) that’s open for reservations throughout the week (except for Sundays). It’s probably one of the best places near UF to meet for a study session or a book club meeting. Speak with Nora. I have and she’s super friendly.
And I appreciate so very much their selection of music. You can count on something other than the usual stuff on the charts (any given day you might chance upon some Sufjan Stevens, Wilco…) Whoever’s making the playlist, thank you x 1,000,000. (BTW, if you play music I’d definitely ask about doing a live gig here.)
Okay, what about the coffee? I think in this post-​Starbucks age we’re inclined to compare everything coffee-​related to Starbucks (quality, speed, variety, etc). But I think that’s a mistake. The real game-​changers today are actually places like the Blue Bottle, where coffee doesn’t mean «I’m in a hurry» or «pump me up with sugar» but «take your time and make me something good, and not burnt.» Even the freshest brews at Starbucks carries a burnt taste. But not so at Pascal’s. The work that happens behind the counter really reflects the atmosphere before it — relaxed but sincere. The time and attention they put into each cup of coffee demands that we rest a bit from the tasking demands of the M-​F.
It’s actually quite therapeutic. It’s where even your work might feel kind of restful.

My son, a UF student, took me to Pascal’s yesterday as a treat (so sweet, right?) He has been telling me for quite some time that it’s somewhere that I would enjoy. Pascal’s certainly didn’t disappoint! Even though my college days are far behind me, I loved the atmosphere, the people and the general feeling of a relaxed, cozy, friendly little haven.
I am generally not a tea person, but my son convinced me that I HAD to try the London Fog. Holy cow!!! With the first sip, I was hooked! Soooo delicious, relaxing and smile-​inducing! I definitely have a new favorite drink and a new favorite place. There are some places in town that are so totally geared toward the college crowd that I wouldn’t be totally comfortable patronizing alone. However, Pascal’s is a place that I look forward to frequenting again and again!

I’ve been coming here for years now, and Pascal’s still is one of my favorite places in town. The atmosphere is so casual & easy going. The coffee isn’t the best in town, but I still enjoy theirs while studying. I mostly come here to work on schoolwork … But it’s also a tremendous place to meet a friend for a cup o’ Joe. Enjoy!

I heard good things about this place so I went to check it out and I’m beyond displeased. I ordered a double capachino with almond milk. I can’t explain how bad it is. The taste is beyond poor and the milk is less frothy than a typical late is. I am disappointed. Additionally the girls working had no sense of urgency. They were chatting and people were anxiously waiting for their drinks. I unfortunately will not return.

Study spot requirements:
Plentiful seating: There’s seating upstairs, downstairs and a few tables outside. There also an outlet outside which is totally awesome.
Locally owned: Yes.
Relaxed atmosphere: Absolutely, 100% no. It was so damned noisy and busy, and the set-​up of the place made all of that noise echo exponentially. I like studying in coffee shops because it is an active environment, but I felt like I was in the middle school hallway between bells. The relaxed atmosphere referenced by others makes me think it’s not always like this, but everyone was so LOUD with their voices and talking about the most annoying nonsense that even if there were only 5 people in there I still would have been irritated. And the baristas were screaming when drinks were ready, adding evidence to the fact that this volume level is normal. I could hear everyone’s drink order from outside.

Quality coffee: Who knows? I guess? They were out of everything cold when I was there around 1pm. I mean… ugh. Yeah, shit happens, but… I’m new to Florida and it seems pretty glaringly obvious that you’re going to need a crap ton of the cold stuff. Fail. And the things the barista offered as a replacement were sucky replacements. But mainly I’m just unimpressed with the bad planning in face of all of these amazing reviews about their quality.
Snacks: They had a selection of pastries, but they were all mashed together and piled on top of each other on one cake platter. Weird.
Price: Normal, maybe a tiny bit more.
Extra notes: Their hours are absolutely stupid. They close early and aren’t open on the weekends. And while the location has been debated, I was absolutely aware that this place was inside some kind of religious establishment. «I just, like, I just so, like, want to go and like, do a mission, like, somewhere and be like, helping people.»

I had a chai tea latte and a blueberry pastry here.
The chai was interesting tasting, but a bit powdery. It’s hard (note: near impossible) to find a good mostly-​non-​processed chai.
The pastry was pretty good, but not too fresh.
I love the talks they give here. My professor gave a talk on justice in Sept. Will visit again! Also I love the fact that the coffee is locally brewed.

Pascals is the best Coffeehouse in Gainesville. And i’ve tried them all.
Their coffees are made exceptionally well, particularly their Coffee Chillers (Frappaccino-​esque) and Espresso-​Based drinks. Their sugar-​infused Cuban Lattes are decadent. Cappuccinos or brewed coffees have NEVER tasted bitter or burnt.
The REASON you come to Pascals is the atmosphere. There is ample seating, including comfortable couches beside a fireplace, second-​floor tables inside nooks of bookshelves, and first– and second-​floor balcony patios. The music and ever-​changing gallery of art adorning the walls add to the ambience.
They also offer some great food options. Pastries taste fresh and are served toasted warm. Hummus and crackers offer a lighter snack. Their bagels beat out the overpriced Einstein fare on-​campus.
And you MUST order their Columbian Cheese Bread with a little drizzle of honey– delicioso!
The baristas are accommodating and considerate, always willing to take the time to explain how they make a drink or customize your order to your liking.
It might take slightly longer to receive your coffee, but that’s the point. You won’t have the long lines out the doors like the library Starbucks or be rushing to give your order and grab your drink. So don’t come to Pascals to feel rushed.
Pascals is located conveniently across the street from campus. During midterms and finals you might have trouble finding a seat… or a parking space.
Their wi-​fi is sometimes spotty but mostly reliable.
Pascals is a Gainesville treasure that I visit regularly.

I live super close to here but never go in. Mainly because the service is beyond bad. It takes forever for an employee to acknowledge you and then another decade for your coffee to be ready.
On the good side, the inside is surprisingly spectacular. You feel as if you’re in a gorgeous lodge in Vermont, not gville. i recommend going upstairs as there are a ton of tables, which is good for intimate convos or reading a book for school. unless, of course, a prayer group or something is around.
i also must give it points for serving organic coffee!!! and they will serve it in an actual mug or glass, not plastic cup. refreshingly eco-​friendly.
if u do decide to come, don’t do it in a rush or before class. do it when you have all the time to procrastinate before doing work.
