Rip off place. Rescheduling/​cancellation come with big penalty like patients committed crime. Poor customer service.

I have been wanting to write a review for this dental office practice for quite some time now but been putting it off because I would like to give them more chances to improve their service. My family of 5 have been going to this dental office since they opened and back them the service was at par with other practices. However, the front desk has always been iffy but we remain going to them because we like the new facility, the friendly hygienists and the convenience. However, I am tired of the front desk service because over the years they have not improved. There always seems wrong with the billing, appointments and at times the people are rude. The last straw that drove me to write this review is the over-​payment of over $ 500 that I have been pursuing to get refund or returned to me for over 2 months now. It was promised to me that the check will arrive in the mail several times but still no check. I already left a voicemail message to the owner but he never responded. I think it is time to take my family and find a new dental office practice. The Gainesville/​Haymarket area has grown since then that I believe there will be many to choose from. I’m done with you, Gateway Dental!

I have to say the dental hygenist, I think her name is Kristen, was the best I ever had. So thorough!!! The dentist I had was new to practicing, but she didn’t seem incompetent, but did not seem as thorough as others – as in poking along my gum line to see the health of my gums or looking under my tongue and pulling it up. I was told I needed a root canal so they gave me a quote. It was a phenomenally high price even under our insurance and compared to what my husband has paid for his several root canals elsewhere. I called our dental insurance to find out what was going on and was told that Gateway was wrong and couldn’t charge that much. I told the insurance rep that Jennifer at Gateway kept quoting a new law that allowed them to charge higher than the coverage. In reply, I was told by my insurance that, no, that is what insurance agreements are for. The rep from my insurance even tried calling them directly and was kept being told that Jennifer was out for lunch, on break, or whatever. We never have had any dental practice question what our coverage provided and abided by the agreement. I would have been paying well over $ 1000 for a crown versus under $ 400. Crazy!!! After reading the reviews, I’m wondering if they’re trying to scam people. I would have given only one star had it not been for the nice receptionist and hygenist. So instead of gaining six members of my family, they’ll have none. I sincerely hope that the head dentist of the practice figures out what is going on and cares enough to do something about it. I should have known something was amiss when the couple of times I’ve been in the office, it has been practically dead.

Had a recent follow up again to get my permanent crown and I can’t be more happy with it. Dr. Liu was quick and had that sucker in there in about less than 20 minutes and it’s been about a month and i had no issues. Even though the procedure was quick, she took her time to explain thoroughly how to care for the new crown and showed me the proper way to floss and brush since it is a little different than my normal teeth.
I used to use my molars to open corona bottles but she did say that was a bad idea and I should probably not do that anymore. Again she had the same warm and friendly attitude, so ask for her when you come in.
As I was l leaving Jennifer at the front desk made sure to tel me everything with the billing was okay and even reminded me again of my upcoming cleaning appointments.

Are we going to the same dentist office? I have never found any of the staff anything but friendly and courteous. — and always on a first name basis with me. I have never had a billing issue, even after changing insurance. Colette is the best hygienist I have seen in a long, long time. Dr. Adi that some people seem to miss repaired a couple of cavities and I had complications — not of the good kind. I won’t miss him — could have been a fluke but that was my experience. The dentists I have seen since he left have all been friendly, and explained far more than I have ever got with any other dentist — hardly rushing, quite the opposit. I hope to not need anything more than a cleaning for a long time, but if I have anything further I’ll update my review.

First off they were warned by my husband that I will be posting this to show our courtesy however they still continued on their merry to gives us threatening bills that will go to collections and we decided have the attitude of karma will get the best of this group and just paid the unexpected balance. This dental office was conveniently located near our house as we were new in town and decided to go to them (first mistake) The office itself is new clean and reminds of dental school where the seats are arranged in an assembly line w short walls that divide up the patients (no rooms for privacy). The hygienist were nice and got our X-​rays etc (the one a year allotted by insurance and then dr comes in see X-​rays and makes recommendations etc. it’s a fast and to the point for a regular dental cleaning etc (the first visit) so one awesome thing if u like in and out care come here.
For me it was a routine cleaning. My husband he was in pain and needed to see someone right away. Bottom line he needed a root canal. Granted this place prints out an estimated charge sheet for services prior to the procedure. And mind you they check your insurance pretty well (someone does) because they told me I need a root canal too but I wasn’t in pain at all and even told me as they handed me my proposed billing plan for this root canal that I have awesome insurance and cleaning today was covered and my root canal should only be $$ stated on my proposed statement. Since I was not in pain, I got a second opinion and got it done else where for way cheaper (like previous Unilocalers… Way over priced) my current dr saw my proposed plan and was like «they charged for this and that?!» (I did not know dental terminology)
Anyways husband got his done paid the amount expected to pay and we should have been done. Found out they used a very specific material that our insurance did not cover (basically the office got no money from insurance for it) and did not tell us using alternative material and to the additional amount we paid out of pocket was another $ 380, making the grand total since we been paying out of pocket after insurance claim way over $ 1000. (unexpected costs) we talked to them and told them that is not just an outlier of being off by $ 80-​$ 100 which was written on the proposed plan. This is hundreds of dollars. They didn’t not own up to their mistake and and didn’t even reach out professionally to say they used another material etc. fine we probably should have advocated for the right material (like I know what dental material is used) but as an office u really only have retention twice a year (for your cleanings). How they handled out specific situation they did not care if we came back as loyal clients. So yes they lost two clients and ate our money. This is the impression of this busy… Money hungry and will nickel and dime every thing it of you. This a business that you want your clients to come back. They really just wanted fresh meat to diagnose randomly to get a procedure done and get that claim.
Thanks for listening. I hope this review helps future potentials to really research more into your dental services. Quality has many faces not just the actual hands on part. It’s from the moment you walk in until you walk out and until your next appointment.

I always feel like being in a factory, very staff are very mechanical, usually dry and rushed. My daughter’s minor overbite has taken almost two years ! With no end on sight. If you like four minute appointments and rushed service this is your place. Good thing a lot more practices are opening, shop around.

Front desk staff is rude, and the services are way overpriced. I went for a root canal and was charged for a root canal, BUT I never received a crown. The dentist only rebuilt the tooth with filling and said it would be fine. I am now going to a new dentist and will have to have the tooth fixed! So be careful going to this dentist, they will cut corners and still take your money.

Started going here with they first opened. What used to be stellar service is now very horrible customer service. Went to this office two times in one week. Front office staff not in sync with the hygienist or dentist. Hygenist (Kim) is very rude and inept. Billed my insurance and I didn’t even receive treatment. Both visits were rushed and I didn’t feel like a valued, long time customer. We won’t be back and I will share my story with anyone who asks. Left with the files of my entire family.
I should add that they recommended my 9 YO for braces, went to two local orthos who completely disagreed.

Terrible customer service!!! I had an appointment which I arrived to early just in case of extra paperwork and they told me I was not scheduled for any appointment that day or anywhere in the near future. Even though I had it written down in my calender and they even called me two days before to remind me I had an appointment on that day and the time in which I came in! Needless to say, I walked out of their without any work done and very upset over their lack of business skills. All that said, I will NOT be returning to that awful place again!

We chose Gateway Dental after having been with a different dentist in the area. We are so glad we made the switch! The staff is very friendly and helpful — and unlike other offices, they bill both primary and secondary insurance — extremely helpful as I’d rather have someone who knows billing file the claim. The dentists are very knowledgeable and work with their patients on their dental plans. The hygienists are great. This is the best dentist office in the area.

Not only do I agree with the last review, I can add that I was wrongly required to prepay for a covered in-​network work, and then they submitted (assignned themselves benefits) and took the payment from Aetna, and it has been over 30 days since they got the payment and I still have to wait until «the day they cut checks». If you owed them several hundred dollors for over 120 days, they would send you right into collections ! Go here if you like waiting long times, getting rushed treatment, and then financially ripped off. There are plenty of better dentists in the area I found out.
