This is THEWORST joke of a psychiatrist I have ever been to. Not only did he almost fall asleep during one point of the intake, he aggressively interrogated me about a medication 2 different doctors have put me on. Asking me if I was«stashing it» and«how did you get the Doctors to prescribe you that?» This man clearly needs to see a psychiatrist himself and close down the shack he runs this practice out of.

Dr. Lawrence Adu, unfortunately, represents the common denominator of psychiatric practitioners, and from my experience falls at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to actually caring about, and listening to his patients. This is made all the more ironic by a prominently displayed plaque in his waiting room that says he’s there to listen. I am on Effexor, an anti-depressant that was prescribed to me by another psych, and I came to Dr. Adu to attempt to get off it in a safe way. During the initial consultation I could already tell that we might not get along. Dr. Adu did not really leave any room in the conversation to actually listen to me, instead he asked me a string of mostly irrelevant questions to the reason I came to see him. At the end he recommended that I cut my dose in half(from 150mg XR to 75mg XR). I got the Rx filled but after speaking with my girlfriend about it, she had the same reservations that I had about going this route. We had done our own research by looking at actual patient reports online about what it’s like to try and get off of this drug. If you do a brief google search, you’ll see that many patients describe it as «hell», and that the standard route that many psychiatrists prescribe(of halving the dose every few weeks), can actually be devastatingly bad advice that brings the patient to a level of functionality of that of a small animal in excruciating pain, preventing them from functioning and performing their duties. So we did our own research, and found several helpful guides on how to safely and slowly taper off the dosage, such as this one: I decided to see the doctor the next day to see if he would be amenable to trying this method instead. When I saw Dr. Adu, he flat out refused to even consider it or look at the method. I asked him if he had actually read patient reports online and he did not answer. Instead he told me that he had years of experience and that I should either listen to his«wisdom» or find myself another psychiatrist. Needless to say, this doctor«who listens» will never have me as a patient again, and I hope this review can spare you the trouble of ever having to deal with this arrogant and inconsiderate man. Edit: BTW I noticed that Unilocal filtered one other patient’s review for some reason. She also gave this guy 1 star. Too bad I didn’t see that before visiting him.
