This place is the BOMB in Gainesville. Very liberal thinking discussions and very open minded people to talk to and engage with if you want. They have many music and poetry nights as well a a movie and a discussion on Mondays. Since moving to this college town it is my one sane place to go!

CMC is one of those places that can truly only exist in a college town. Park music venue, part bookstore, part library — and all offbeat. To say the place leans left is to understate where they are politically. If you need a good dose of unreconstructed liberalism, this is the place for you. Oh, and they run mostly on volunteers.

I admit I don’t go as often as I would have thought I would when I moved here, but I am so glad CMC exists. Knowing such a progressive library existed in Gainesville was a big part of my reason for moving here. Whether you stop in for a free movie, read up on a favorite cause, see a concert, or browse a magazine that you won’t find anywhere else in Gainesville(or Florida), it’s worth a stop. Check out their events page at to see what’s going on this week.
