Barrel & Boar

One of the most wonderful atmospheres and staff that I’ve ever been around… The food is above and beyond anything I ever expected. If you are a fan of barbecue that is made with the upmost experience and care then this is the restaurant for you. Please take the time to enjoy everything this restaurant has to offer.

You ever walk into a place and decide to leave before even getting seated? Happened here the other day. Walked in at brunch time because we had a hankering for barbecue, Place looked next to empty, maybe ¹⁄₃ of the tables occupied. First red flag, NONE of the employees looked happy, they all looked either hung-​over or brow beat, none of the visible FOH staff were wearing a smile. Second red flag, a hostess was nowhere to be found for 5 minutes, as we and several other patrons were waiting to be greeted and seated. Third and final red flag before we turned around and left, the couple in front of us requested to be sat outside to which they were informed «There’s no available tables outside.» That was clearly not true as there were at least 8 tables available and clean on the patio clearly visible as we walked in. Took a stroll down to the Creekside Café and enjoyed a wonderful meal there instead. Shame, the place smelled fantastic.

1. Hubby ordered the special Bloody Mary — Sorry we are low on bloody mary mix — what they really mean, no bloody mary mix!
2. The Cheddar Biscuit Horrible. Weighed about a pound, thick, dry, glue like with no cheddar taste at all — disappointed.
3. Hush Puppies — fried something!
4. A Salad arrived no mandarin oranges — asked waitress to bring some. She said none come on the salad, we said check menu. Low and behold here come the mandarin oranges.
5. Cole Slaw advertised as creamy — not a chance and it was sour. Bob Evans and Kentucky Fried Chick better cole slaw.
6.Ribs weren’t bad, not a style I care for — prefer baby backs.
7.Best thing was the baked beans and brisket side.
I would return for lunch for the view and beans and brisket — that’s it.

Great food and great cocktail menu! Service was excellent. I had the brisket, bacon Mac n cheese. The wife had a pulled chicken sandwich. The meat was perfectly cooked and the cocktails were perfectly made. I had the Kentucky handshake and she had southern hospitality on a 93 degree day and it was just what the doctor ordered. Definitely will be back

We ordered buffalo wings for an appetizer with Bleu cheese, and the beef brisket platter, one with the mac and cheese, and baked beans, and the other with cheese grits and cornbread. The wings were not warm, leading us to think they were prepared in advance and just reheated. The Bleu cheese was unusually cold, The beef brisket had huge amounts of fat on it, was greasy, and barely warm., but the part that was not fat did have a good flavor. The mac and cheese, baked beans, and cheese grits were all good and we’re heated properly. The corn bread was cold. The service was extremely slow and the waiter rarely came to our area. Very disappointed.

Excellent smoked meats! I highly recommend the brisket. Great patio, drinks with live music every Thursday!

Just finished my first meal at Barrel & Boar, and here’s what I think. The mac ‘n cheese along with the coleslaw would probably rate 5 stars. The Brisket Cubano sandwich was good, but maybe 3.5 stars. The young lady that was my server didn’t seem to know the menu very well. I asked her a few questions about the ribs and such, but she had to ask someone else for the answer. I don’t believe that’s her fault. I feel that responsibility falls on her training from management. The GM did stop at my table, which was a nice gesture. The décor of the restaurant is great, along with the patio overlooking Creekside. I’m not sure I like it better than City BBQ, but it is a nice alternative. I think the prices are a bit high, however, the location is partially responsible for that. Don’t be like me and wait forever to eat there, visit Mill Street and give Barrel & Boar a try.

Been there once. Great brisket. Strong service. Good job seating our large group. Hope they do well.

New location at Creekside is amazing! Great atmosphere and menu. Food was outstanding! Service was great. Took the family for dinner and everybody left happy. The Catfish fingers and Cast iron spicy bacon pork & Mac were awesome. There are so many other unique items to try we will be back soon. 5 stars and two thumbs up!!!

Disappointing food. I came home hungry. Mac & Cheese was cold and not ‘baked’ even though it is served in a cast iron skillet. They warmed it up but it still wasn’t good. The cornbread was sickeningly sweet, and I like sweet cornbread. They ‘took care of it’ by only charging me half price for the pasta which I ate about a third of and comping the cornbread, which I only took a few bites of. $ 13 after tip for food I didn’t like is not a good deal. The waiter was nice and did what he could to make things right but I certainly won’t be trying this place again. I’ll have to satisfy my comfort food craving elsewhere before returning to Portland Oregon, home of the ‘foodies’.

Creekside patio is great, server was friendly and food was yummy. Décor inside is rustic yet slightly upscale. Will definitely return!
My only complaint is that a side is $ 4 and served in TINY mason jars. Someone at our table got the Mac and cheese and he probably got 5 noodles. The thought is cute but definitely not worthwhile from a $ to food ratio. Beers at $ 6.50 and cocktails at $ 8 – 9 is also pushing it for not being a super fancy restaurant. I wanted to kick back on the patio for awhile but not at those prices.

My family and I went here over the weekend for their soft opening in their new location. Giving the task of fulfilling my family’s tastebuds would prove itself effortless for Barrel & Boar. We loved EVERYTHING we ordered (and we ordered a lot). The winners were the loaded chips with brisket and the burnt ends. This place is wonderful. So glad we were able to find real smoke bbq locally.

Excellent barbecue pork, brisket and ribs. I tried several sides, baked beans and brisket, coleslaw, cornbread, greens and Mac and cheese. Everything was exceptional. I look forward to coming back soon.

I’ve been here several times, and each time the service & food quality is worse than the last time, no matter if it’s busy or nearly empty. Today was the last straw — we were the only ones here at first, and our simple orders took way too long. On my way to the restroom, I noticed our food sitting under a lamp. Probably explains why it was barely warm & soggy when it arrived. Pancakes were mushy, bacon super greasy & soggy, and kid’s menu chicken tenders & fries were way too spicy. Even the coffee was horrible. Server was nice, but inconsistent & slow. Stay away from this location.

Ordered hush puppies, pork and cheddar grits and brisket platter. Every last item was damn delicious. Will be back!
