Sandy Ridge Boarding Kennels

Boarded both of my dogs with sandy ridge for 9 days. First time we had boarded our dogs so I was very nervous about leaving them as they are my babies :) We went a couple weeks before to meet Brenda and see the facilities. Everything is extremely clean and the runs are large. It’s great that half of the run is indoor and half is outdoor. When we returned home from our trip our dogs were perfect, seems as they had an excellent time. Pricing is extremely affordable — $ 30/​day for both of our dogs in the same run. I would absolutely us sandy ridge again and recommend them to everyone!

A great kennel, at a great price! I found this kennel by asking on a local Facebook pet page for a good boarding place. I’m skeptical leaving my babies (dogs of course!) just anywhere. The kennel is run by a husband and wife who live on a farm and I believe are both retired. Brenda always wanted a kennel so her husband and the family built her one by hand. I went before hand to do a walk through. They have kennels that have doggy door so the dogs can go in and out as they please. The inside is heated/​air conditioned. They also let the dogs out one by in large play area twice a day.
They are open from 8:30am-10:30am and than again during the evening not exactly sure the hours however the couple lives right next to the kennel and checks it very often. Brenda the owner goes in right before bed as well. She is a very sweet woman and just loved my Jack.
I boarded both of my dogs and one is on medication she takes 2x a day. When I boarded her at the last kennel she refused to eat and take her meds but she did just fine here. I didn’t pack enough food and she provided more food for my pups without any extra cost. The meds she gave didn’t cost extra ether. They really care about your pups.
One small problem I encounter is they are a little behind on how to work technology. The printer doesn’t work, I saw in other reviews it hasn’t for sometime. She can’t get the scanner to work, so make sure you print the dog application and get copies of your records to save time. Everything you need to know is on their website which works great! Last thing is they don’t respond to emails so you have to call but they always return calls and do so very quick.

I really wanted to love this place, but alas, I won’t go back.
First the positives:
Attractive and clean kennel, with charming flowers and entryway, good website, good prices, and good availability.
Now the service nightmare:
I made an appointment and told the owner I would be there within 30 minutes. When I arrived, there was no one in the office. We looked outside at the run area and called out. We called the cell phone but it was laying on the desk. We waited. We walked out front in view of the security cameras. We waited. We called the other local kennel who referred us here and she told us the owner lived next door. After waiting about 25 minutes, I finally walked over to the house and knocked, not sure if I needed to call an ambulance or be angry.
The owner explained she forgot all about me, and didn’t really apologize.
We were now running late.
We returned to the office and the owner asked us to fill out forms which she could not provide, because she had none printed, and could not find the ink cartridge for her printer. I offered to write down any answers to her questions, and she decided instead to edit her form online, but was unsuccessful. Finally she dug around and found her ink cartridge and printed the form out when I was halfway through handwriting the information she needed. Now I start over with her form, while I listen to her complain about her clueless clients who do not understand that this is a kennel, and that dogs can get their nails broken on the chain link fence, etc.
I give the medication and feeding directions, and she tells another negative story about some of her clients. I am uncomfortable and very irked. It took literally 45 minutes for me to get my dog dropped off. Finally she made a weak apology for me having to come searching for her. I remarked that I was afraid she was injured, and I may need to call an ambulance, when I knocked at her door. She laughed if off.
When I came back to pick up my dog within the normal operating hours, I again waited out front and finally had to send my teen to her house to retrieve her, when she came walking up the sidewalk, about 10 minutes after we arrived. Again, her cell phone is on her desk under her paperwork, so she didn’t hear it ring when we tried calling it to tell her we had arrived.
We asked for the advertised military discount, and she asked to see our ID, which I happily produced. However, she made a copy of it. I explained that this was now illegal, and even my doctor’s office had to stop doing this. She remarked that she did it all the time, and seemed nonplussed that this was against the law, and did not return the copy to me nor destroy it. She also did not return my dog’s medications to me, which I did not discover until I got home.
All in all, the ownership seems unreliable, unprofessional, and unconcerned. While the kennel is clean and the flowers outside are charming, the service was abysmal. Never again.

My dog has only been boarded twice at Sandy ridge kennels. I like that they have indoor/​outdoor kennels and the areas are kept clean. The owners were patient with my nervous old dog and she did fine for her four day stay. I would recommend Sandy ridge to others and I will be bringing my dog back again.
