Place is horrible, been to plenty other Mongolian BBQ before, they usually have options you get to put together, not here. Food is tasteless, wasted my money

We went to dinner at Mongolian Barbecue at State College and Chapman. My, how that restaurant has changed! We were the only people there at 1800 hours(6:00PM). The place is in less than half the space it formerly occupied, and there are four less than welcoming signs on the front door, among them, «cash only» and«restrooms are for customers only.» Inside, more signs, telling patrons not to take too much food from the buffet and not to fold the meat before it is cooked lest they be assessed an extra charge. The food was OK, not as good as it used to be, with a very tiny portion of rice and rather yucky sauces for the won-tons and fried shrimp. Not a friendly place at all like it was when I lived in Orange County 14 years ago. We will NOT be back, for darn sure. To the owner: you don’t call out customers with a bunch of rules all over your door and walls and get my business!

Out of the 3 – 4 Mongolian bbq restaurants that I have tried(not including the mall. the mall is too good) this ones pretty much at the top. The guy who greeted us was very warm and friendly. Their choices for the bbq are actually quite limited in my opinion but it has enough stuff for me to make a decent bowl. If they run out of meat or anything you can just tell them and they’ll refill it super fast. Almost anything you choose comes with the pocket bread and rice so it’s plenty of food for the price or ayce is an option. You have to put your own sauce into it before you give it to the guy to cook. I recommend doubling whatever the recommender is or else it won’t really have any taste. This place is also nice because there are so many types of drinks to choose from! There’s tea, beers, soda… etc. very good variety.

I came here once before when they had all you can eat, but I guess that option is gone. Must say the food was slightly dissapointing. Rice, shrimp and egg roll was meh. The noodles were ok. All in all not that good.

The pocket biscuits are pretty good. Meat selection was good too. The food was prepared quickly. I put a lot of sauce in my bowl before it got cooked but it was still a bit bland. Overall not a bad price. I would visit this place again for Mongolian BBQ.

Love this Mongolian BBQ!!! Always great! I’ve been coming here for years and will continue!!! The pocket biscuits, rice, the bowls with you favorite meats, fresh veggies and sauces are delicious!!! For lunch you do have to tell them what meats you want which is totally ok with me! And for dinner you serve the meats yourself! Love this hidden gem in Fullerton!!!

Vegetables were not fresh, some were visibly brown. Also they don’t give you many options. They don’t let you choose your meat even though they have a buffet tray for it. The beef tasted old. The hot sauces and teriyaki sauces were congealed and didn’t taste like anything. The egg rolls they give you are the size of your finger. Don’t waste your money here.

Service was meh. When you first walk in, it feels very dead and you almost just want to leave. Anyways, the food here is amazing. I live for the pockets. We got the basic number 2 combo and we were still able to get so much food. We stuffed our faces. If service was better, I would definitely come often. If I am ever just driving by, I will stop by for sure.

Unfriendly service. Overpriced portions. Side dishes were cold and the BBQ was not served with any noodles. I will not be going back.

Pros: Unique food, can accommodate a wide variety of diets, inexpensive, frequent cleaning of stove/grill Cons: Selection of ingredients not as wide as other places, cash only We’ve been going here for years. I’m a bit surprised at some of the low opinions of this place, as it’s a tasty, different meal for not much money. The idea is that you put together a bowl with thinly sliced, frozen meat(meat optional) and various vegetables and other ingredients. Then put some seasoning sauces and oil on it and put it in line to be cooked. It is cooked on a big, flat, round stove. The cook has a long(like arm’s length long) blade that he uses to push the food around and cook it. I see the cook here scraping and cleaning the stove often. When I went to Genghis Khan in the mall I noticed that they don’t clean as often and the spices from other people’s meals can build up. I like spicy food and wasn’t happy with my Genghis Khan meal a couple of times because it was so spicy I couldn’t taste the food. This has never happened here. Because you choose your own ingredients the meal can be made vegetarian. Or poultry/no red meat. Or beef only. Lunch is a little different. You tell the waiter what meat you want and they give you a portion and there is no all-you-eat. The rest of the ingredients at the buffet station like normal. This is probably because the amount of customers isn’t as high and you can’t leave raw frozen meat out to thaw and perhaps become bacteria populated. The owner doesn’t speak English that well, but he’s really nice. He always recognizes us even though we don’t come all that often(once every 3 months), and he knows we order the same thing and what it is. He’s been running the business forever and hasn’t aged a day even though he runs around like a madman to keep up the ingredient station replenished and your table serviced! This little place doesn’t have as wide a selection of ingredients as the Mongolian BBQ in Torrance, but it is a neat little hole-in-the-wall with low prices. Be sure and bring cash, the cash-only policy is part of how the prices stay low.

Came here for dinner. There was no one in the restaurant. The workers/owners were hiding in the back. when we came in. The lady came out and took our order. Said we can pick up to 2 types of meat and asked what type did we wanted. She brought our bowls out with the frozen raw meat the sides it came with, the check and then left. At that point I was like I guess we are going to stand up put veggies and noodles in our bowl. at the end of the veggie buffet is the sauce station. The sauce looked water down. I dumped triple what the sign recommended. Glad I did because it was still slightly bland. while we were working on our creation a man came out to cook our food. He was really quiet. so I just sat my bowl down next to him and he picked it up. When my food was ready he sat it back on the counter. Then the couple were never to be seen again only the lady ran out to see if we paid when she heard the door open. the food wasn’t that bad, but it wasn’t good. My food came with rice which was cold and soggy. It was as if they cooked the rice and then turn of the rice maker. My pocket bread was ok. It reminded me of layers of tortilla. My noodles as expected wasn’t very flavorful.

I have been coming here since i was in elementary school(so over 15 years). Even my dad went here when he had just moved to Orange County back in the early 90s. The owner is super friendly! I feel like he hasn’t aged in the past 10 years. lol My parents always have their Chinese conversation with him and his wife. I love this place more than Genghis Khan in the Brea Mall because its not so over rated. Its just the whole in the wall restaurant that has been serving its local customers for over 15 years. Food is simple and thats the reason why I am awarding this place 5 Stars. They don’t leave out the slices of meat but they take it out when you let him know which meat you want. Because lets be honest, why would you want meat slices sitting out for 8hrs? I hope this place stays here forever! its the only place I can get great service and food!

This place never seems to let me down! It’s the best Mongolian I have ever had! I can eat here all the time, the owner is a quiet man but is very kind. It had been about 3−4months since my last visit and to my surprise he still remembered me. I thought that was pretty great. I’m not to sure if this place gets much business but it should. What maybe makes people not go there often is maybe the way the business looks… but looks can be deceiving. Best place I have ever been to no doubt in the world you should try it.

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. The waitress is a total b*tch. She looks bitchy, is cranky and rude. First, she ripped us off by filling up our bowl of meat for us when that’s our job. If you’re not familiar with Mongolian BBQ, such as Ghengis Khan, you can pack any choice of meat all you want onto the bowl knowing that the meat is purposely curled. However, this cranky lady decided to take matters into her own hands all because she was ill-prepared to restock the meat trays. Terrible. Towards the end when the chef almost finished frying our meat, we realized it didn’t come with noodles. Mongolian BBQ is supposed to be consumed with noodles. The customers in line also looked puzzled when we complained. A customer even said«good catch» to me. In response, the waitress-lady rudely grumbled«next time let me know first if you want noodles». Extremely rude. We are customers, it is your job to inform us of your services and options. We cannot be an inconvenience to you if we are paying you. The food is shitty also. It taste just like noodles flavored with soysauce. Yuck. Noodles are also not fresh. There are not enough variety of toppings and they give you a small serving of noodles. Go to Brea Mall Ghengis Khan, it’s delicious, fresh and they load it up. DON’T GOHERE.

First time here. Will never come back. Ordered a diner special. Lady gave us a bowl of meat n told us to get the veggies condiments at the counter. Then we handed to the chef for cookin. It came out dull and no noodles? Wtf? I had to holler to the kitchen…“hello? Does this come with noodle? « Grumpy lady’s response: «Next time if you want noodle you have to let me know first.» Lol, what? The noodle wasn’t even out on the counter. Every Mongolian bbq place I go to either asks me for noodle or has it on counter.

This place is the best! Food is delicious, tasty, fresh, and fast. Great service. and I love supporting«mom n’ pop» places. so it works out perfectly. Hot bread pockets Shaved beef, chicken, pork, and turkey meat selections Onions, cilantro, broccoli, carrots, bean sprouts, tomatoes, cabbage, mushrooms, red and green bell peppers, etc. About 6 – 8 different sauces/cooking oils. YUMMY Garlic sauce!!! Great tea! Genuine and warm service. You can choose the unlimited Mongolian with appetizers and rice, or the one bowl with appetizers and rice. Prices vary based on the type of appetizers offered and what you choose for the Mongolian grill part. anywhere from $ 7.99−10.99 for the combos.

Randomly decided to come here because we were in the area and didn’t know what else to eat and Unilocal pointed us here. — hard to find and when I called to ask for directions the lady kept repeating the address + lots of parking + good price! + bread pockets are delicious: hot and fresh(?) — they only put a little meat out each time and we had to wait for someone to come fire up the grill — had to wait awhile for someone to come back to give us change for our cash(yes it’s cash only here) Probably won’t be back but it was an okay experience.

Seeing as how this place is but a short little walk away from my home, Boyfriend and I have been here to dinner a couple of times, but that was in the year 2BY — Before Unilocal(or at least before I Unilocaled.) Back then, this little hole in the wall had questionably fresh food, decent service, and looked a bit dirty. Still, always ones for second(or third) chances, we headed over for dinner. The service is still decent, but it’s a lot cleaner in there, and I saw the owner’s wife putting out fresh ingredients regularly. They offer AYCE for about $ 11, and bottled drinks. Don’t opt for the jasmine tea — you’ll be sorry if you do! There are three meat selections — thinly sliced beef, chicken, and pork. The vegetables are pretty run of the mill, but they’re plentiful. Noodles aren’t spectacular either, but again, pretty average. When you get to the sauces — go crazy. There’s nothing really spicy there though; for that you’ll need the condiment bar. Make sure you add garlic, and use a light hand with the oil unless you like your food to taste like a lard factory. Once you hand your bowl over to the master, plant your buns in your seat, have your soup, ponder what to do with the small bowl of rice given, and when the guy makes a little grunting noise, go pick up your bowl. If he’s not too busy, he’ll even walk it over to you. I know this place has a bad rap, but it’s really not all that awful — you should give it another chance. Or just a chance, if you’ve never been. CASHONLY, btw.
